Arapaima GIGAS - Director’s Cut Film Festival Version

- In the middle of the Brazilian jungle, at the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve, three anglers are chasing the prehistoric fish that the natives call: Pirarucú. After the stocks have recovered from overfishing in the 80's, the Pirarucú Lodge is known to be the best fly fishing spot for Arapaima in the world. The pursuit of one of the largest freshwater fish on the planet with a fly rod has its ups and downs, and "simply" catching one of these prehistoric fish isn't enough. The reason you travel all the way deep into the amazon is to break the magical 200cm mark.

Epic!!! I could feel your frustration & the scared feeling of not catching a fish, so much more fun to get one the first day to take the pressure off. I was on a real picky cow tuna trip & got one on the first day, it's such a different atmosphere when that pressure is off. Thanks for sharing!
Great video - the markings on their head are amazing...truly pre-historic! well done
what an epic video!!! hopefully i can fishing there someday ...
Nice film, good job !!
Such a sick film but guys.
Moooooooooy bueno.
Awesome! Great Camera work, story and Fishing!
Awesome video man, keep them coming
Enjoyed that🤟 one of my bucket list fish, the other two being a tarpon and a golden dorado.
I went for the tarpon first, it’ll be easier and cheaper to find a place to fish for them but it’s still going to be nearly impossible to land one
@@castinwithcarter8922 all difficult for me, I’m in Scotland!!
@@bensteer3778 yeah, it would be pretty hard to find one there. After this whole quarantine stuff passes you could try to find a cheap plane ticket to southern Florida or Puerto Rico during the summer
@@castinwithcarter8922 yep, that would be good. You wanna see the pike we have here, that’s what I’m practicing on.
The guys paid some thousand of dollars in the lodge and they offered brahma chopp do they drink.😅
hahaha
Woof
how are you guys swimming with all those crocodiles there?
Big fish on and half-way stupid... perfect recipe for an idiot cake ;-)
@@FlyFishingNation damn..... hindsight truly is 20/20 haha!
Pirarucu fish is amazing!!! have you noticed any sexual dimorphism? have you noticed any external characteristics that make it possible to differentiate the male from the female?
Do you throw the fish back in the water? And even if you do, why bothering another living being in such a way? Would you like to be bothered like that at your own home? And if you don't give it back to the water, then I have no words to define my sadness. Anyway, what you do is very sad and disappointing.😔😔😔
If it wasn’t for fishing in the first place, biologists who study them wouldn’t know half of what we do today, fishing allows conservationists to keep an accurate record of population numbers and understand their feeding habits, where they like to live and how they go about their lives. There is nothing bad about fishing, and even if they don’t release the arapaima which they do because they are a protected species, it’s going to feed a village full of people who don’t have the luxury of going to the grocery store way out in the Amazon, please don’t think of fishing as something bad, there is nothing wrong with it unless people overfish, that’s something I don’t agree with.
@@kellenkirkpatrick Thank you Kellen for your mindful answer. Now I understand more. All the best.
