The performance of this song in the movie was amazing, but this one is even more powerful because you can see it coming to life in Keala as she's singing. And you can see the way it fires up the other people in the room when she finally gets into it. She didn't want to be there. You're right. Her agent had to bribe her with a bottle of whiskey or bourbon or something to even get her to show up. She mentioned it in an interview... I think it was the Graham Norton Show. She resisted being in the movie too. She blames Hugh Jackman for her casting and for him convincing her to do the movie. I think by now she's willing to concede that it all worked out in the end.
I think it was the director, he asked her what it would take for her to sing it, she said if he got her alcohol (I don’t remember what exactly she asked for) and that day he showed up with it! I may have got some details wrong.
This performance is why the movie was made. After she finished singing, the movie studio executive told Keala that she just sold her first motion picture, aka got it green lit. I love the movie and soundtrack! If you get the chance, you have to watch the video with Pink and her daughter singing "A Million Dreams".
Yes, that was Cynthia Erivo and yes, that was Jeremy Jordan next to her. As a matter of fact, almost all of those backing singers were established Broadway musical hands. Which is the reason that everyone rendezvoused in New York City for the presentation. The really tall guy who sings General Tom Thumb's line (another round of bullets...) is Ben Thompson, who had been in the musical "Waitress" with Keala. Jeremy Jordan was brought in at the last minute to sing Hugh's songs, since Hugh's doctor had expressly forbidden him to sing at the presentation. Which is why Jeremy was rockin' out to Keala while still working on learning his (Hugh's) songs from the script in front of him. After the presentation was complete, one of the 20th Century Fox execs walked up to Keala and said "Congratulations young lady, you've just booked your first major motion picture!". Keala was the only one there (except Hugh Jackman, of course) who was seriously being considered for the movie. For everyone else, it was a gig to earn a few extra bucks on their day off.
@@GraciesMom Aha! Somewhere, after I first saw this video and Hugh Jackman's "From Now On" nose-blow-out (as it were), I managed to stumble across a listing showing everyone there that day, but I lost the URL and haven't been able to find it again. I remember that Carolee Carmelo was there, but my aging brain can't remember the others. The joy of being a lover of Broadway stuck in the wrong side of the country.
@@dramac333 that’s funny David-I saw that list too and I remember they were all Broadway a-listers but of course I couldn’t remember them all either 🤦♀️. Lol. I’m glad that between the 2 of us we were able to read most of the room anyway!!! Have a great night!
I love the nod and the Huge grin Jackman gives her when she takes his hand. So perfect. Mom and I both love this movie but until a month or so ago, she never listened to the lyrics. Then they hit her and now she won't stop. She even got Alexa to play it as her anthem.
It was Hugh's emotional breath that got me and had me crying and smiling such a beautiful moment between them, the admiration and love he has for her and their friendship and her talent was lovely to see 💙💙
Thank goodness they filmed this so we can all see a legendary song come to life at the hands of a masterful singer. Goosebumps. Now Travis you need to watch the audition video Hugh Jackman did for Showman when he wasn't supposed to sing but couldn't help it. Keala shines in that one, too!
Hugh Jackman has said in his concert that Keala didn’t know, but three other well-known actresses were campaigning or her role. When the song ended, the head of the studio rushed to Keala and said she had just booked her first major motion picture (ua-cam.com/video/QWO77h0LtPQ/v-deo.html)
The emotion gets me everytime!! I tear up everytime I see this performance of it. Just the Raw emotion in her voice throughout the song. The fact that it carries everytime she sings it. Love it
Great song. Great reaction. Did you know that somewhere on youtube there is also a video of Hugh Jackman doing From Now On filmed the same day for the same people. It is also terrific
YES! what I wouldn't give to have been in that room when this was being filmed...can you imagine the energy?! it must have been absolutely magical and I'm so jealous of every single person in that room who got to experience that. I tear up every time I watch this video and this time was no exception. you HAVE to watch the Hugh Jackman version where he sings "From Now On" to help get the show greenlit. it's just as powerful and shows a side of Hugh that you may have never seen before. it's been wonderful shedding tears with you once again Travis; until next time? 😅❤️
Every time I watch this it’s like a religious experience almost. You forget you’re watching it at home on a screen and you’re just transported into that room and there’s nothing like it. NOTHING.
You do know that Pentatonix are on "The Greatest Showman Reimagined" album, right? They do an INCREDIBLE rendition of "The Greatest Show" YOU MUST check it out if you haven't already! This performance gets me every time!!! Great reaction as always!
When you said you hadn't seen this before I was thinking "dude you are in for a treat!". I've seen it like 5 times and have cried every damn time. I saw this before I saw the movie & it inspired me so much
I call these moments musical awakenings. When an artist or someone gets so into a song or performance emotions just spill out and lead to something absolutely amazing. I love to hear and see it cause it’s so visual even if it’s just audio how freeing it is.
As a musician who is an empath and one that struggles with confidence, I got the second hand of every emotion she feels in the video and I cry EVERY TIME. It was such a wonderful performance. At that moment, I feel like she clicked into the song's words for every ounce of what they meant and went ALL IN. Wow. Just wow.
I have watched that so many times, it truly fits anyone who feels like they don’t fit in, this is me, and I am proud of that, such an incredible emotional transition occurred in that room, she brought it to life, and everyone in that room and everyone watching, with this performance she landed her role in the Greatest Showman, so perfectly deserved ❤️. Thank you for reacting to this video, it’s so inspirational.
No matter how many times I’ve seen this clip, I just want to be in that room each time! Glad to have seen your reaction, Travis! This is actually so much more emotional than the number in the movie - so raw, so deep,a d so moving.
It is so sweet to watch you watch this! I feel like this is one of my anthems. After breast cancer it can cause psychological damage but this song helped me realize that if people stare I just tell them the other one got caught in the car door! Lol that stops in their tracks for sure.
This makes me cry everytime. It help me feel so much better when I was really down. Their is at least one other video just like this with Huge Jackman you should watch. Always enjoy your reactions to video's.
I bawl everytime i see this video of her. its got hard core memory of choir for me, the song itself is my anthem. and that piano player is awesome! i just wanna be part of the chorus my life would have been made! favorite video ever was this one you are watching. glad you know it exists now cause you can obsess like i do lol

This isn't just the first time some people heard the song. It's the moment she finally broke out and embodied the character. That, in itself is a rare and perilous and powerful moment.

I love your reaction to this video. I have watched it 100 times if I've watched it once. Jeremy was there to help out and Hugh was unable to sing that day because of a cancer surgery he had on this nose. This was the moment the movie was SOLD. I cry each time I see it because it is so time appropriate. Not a movie I thought I'd like and I was CRAZY about it, the music, the characters, and the actors.
This is on my personal playlist! When I am feeling down in ANY way, this is the song I listen to to purge those toxins clouding my thoughts and feelings. I am renewed and rejuvenated. BTW: the piano player wrote the song. How amazing this must have been for him to see it come to life.
Thank you, Travis. Love this song, had never seen this video before your livestream. Where would we be, how would we have survived the last two years without UA-cam and MUSIC?!?!? Love your reactions and raw emotion, thank you. Keep ‘em coming...more please.
I’m so pissed at UA-cam for never recommending this channel to me before. Like, UA-cam, you’ve known me for years, wtf?! Also, my exact reaction the first time I saw this video regarding Cynthia and Jeremy was IDENTICAL. hahaha definitely subscribing!!
I know it’s several years later, but nobody mentioned that there was a pretty famous singer in that ensemble. Each time the camera pans to the right. The young lady in the ensemble, with the curly hair in the front row, wearing black and burgundy is Loren Allred, the singer of Never Enough. By the way, she just sang a new version of Never Enough on AGT Fantasy League in January. Mind blowing.
Jeremy Jordan was doing all the songs during this Greenlight session because Hugh had just had cancer surgery a day or two before. at 7:15 as the camera pans left, you'll also see Andrew Keenan-Bolger, who played Crutchie opposite Jordan in the movie of "Newsies" Broadway production. LOTS of famous people were in this Greenlight session to get the movie approved.
I adore this anthem. We need this more than ever in light of recent events when women aren't bring allowed to be who they are. This song is the perfect anthem of empowerment. We so need that right now
First time I saw this, I was literally sobbing at my desk. The emotion in that song.... just...no words. I highly recommend Musicality's cover of Never Enough. They also did From Now On.
The performance of this song in the movie was amazing, but this one is even more powerful because you can see it coming to life in Keala as she's singing. And you can see the way it fires up the other people in the room when she finally gets into it.

I'm glad she's in it :D wouldn't be the same without her ♥

You should check out the version on The Graham Norton Show & the interview.. it’s really funny with a surprise for everyone too !!!

First time I saw this, I was literally sobbing at my desk. The emotion in that song.... just...no words.
I highly recommend Musicality's cover of Never Enough. They also did From Now On.
