I’m a COGOP pastor who has been watching your channel since we were all locked away for COVID in 2020. After you dropped those videos on the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) and on the IPHC, I wondered if you would ever say anything about us. You made my hopes and dreams come true. The most serious denominations study UA-camr did a video on my denomination. Yay!

Rejecting the Sabbath laws and still adhering to tithing is logically inconsistent. The tithing laws would have been fulfilled with the rest of the Mosaic Laws, so they can't be applied to contemporary houses of worship. Not to mention, tithing was for the Levites to receive their share of the inheritance.

I agree. Tithing is not a requirement for today and part of the handwriting of ordinances that was against us and what was nailed to the Cross. Those who make tithing binding on believers in this present dispensation of Grace are mixing up Law and Gospel as they tend to do so on other matters of faith and practice also.

Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

He was talking about freewill offerings and hospitality being shown by God's people not paying a set amount or percentage. I used to watch a program on Christian TV hosted by a man named Elwood Matthews. He was a COGOP minister. He sometimes delivered his sermons at Field of the Woods. I liked his sermons. The ones on TV were in a general evangelical vein. He studiously avoided anything too extreme in the Holiness vein, and he never talked about charismatic gifts such as speaking in tongues. If he had, I probably wouldn't have watched him.
About twenty years ago, somebody tried to plant a COGOP church in my town. It didn't take root, so it wasn't long before it shriveled up and blew away.

    • @dmandman9
      @dmandman9 Рік тому

I loved Bishop Matthews. He was our State Bishop in Florida years ago. The Voice of Salvation was targeted to a more general audience and meant as a foundational type program. However, Bishop Matthews did believe , preach, and practice the biblical doctrine of spiritual gifts, healing, and speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. His messages that he preached to a Church of God of Prophecy audience were still sound in doctrine but were more intense and often delved deeper than the VOS messages. Like the apostle Paul, he “became all things to all men “ that he might save some. (See 1 Corinthians 9:19-22)

Pre-Trib and Pre-Milennial are separate things. All beliefs on the rapture(pre/mid/post) occurr before the millennial reign so the official teaching of COGOP has always been Pre-Milennial because by scriptural definition that's when the rapture will take place, "When" exactly in relation to the Great Tribulation has always been been left up to believer although AJ Tomlinson was very much in the Pre-Trip camp having answered a question in the Assembly in regards to the Mark of the Beast by stating "it doesn't matter, we won't be here anyway".

Possibly in some other religions there may be such a thing, but within Christianity the gender-based restrictions are based on certain Biblical texts. Since the Bible doesn't put any restrictions on men, there's no real reason a denomination would have such a restriction.

  • @cw-on-yt

Wow, I've got to give COGOP a lot of credit here.
I was raised as a Southern Baptist, in a church which mainly held OSAS and pre-trib pre-mil dispensationalist views. I later became convinced Catholicism was correct for a variety of historical and scriptural reasons; but I wonder if I'd have been less-likely to make that leap if I'd been raised COGOP.
Don't misunderstand: I still think, in good conscience, that I arrived at the correct view. But part of what made me work extra-hard at research was the clear disconnect between the church offices present my childhood church, and those in the post-apostolic, pre-canonization period (roughly 100 AD to 400 AD). Likewise the cavalier attitude towards remarriage after divorce: They wouldn't have _called_ it cavalier, mind you; but in practice a minister didn't do much inquiry before agreeing to officiate at a "wedding" of civilly-divorced persons whose former spouses were (a.) Christians, and (b.) still living. But it seems to me that COGOP comes a lot closer to the practice of the Early Church; and for that reason, the disconnect would have been a bit less obvious to me.
I do think COGOP still has some -oddities- _unique points._ Foot-washing as an ordinance is one; another is grape-juice instead of wine. Not a lot of historical warrant for the first being an ordinance; and so far as I can see there's _no_ Scriptural or historical warrant for the second. Still, as "reconstructionist" approaches to Christian faith and practice go, they get pretty high marks. Nice job, brothers & sisters!
UPDATE: I see someone else in this comment-thread (@1989barker) saying they've attended a COGOP church for 25 years without ever doing foot-washing. So...that's a little odd. @Ready to Harvest is usually spot-on accurate, but I can't imagine a church considering Rite XYZ to be an "ordinance" in the same category with communion and baptism, and yet _not do it_ at least once a year! (I'd have thought an Easter service the most-likely occasion.) So...I wonder what the disconnect is?

    • @michaelgale5347
      @michaelgale5347 Рік тому +2

To understand the foot washing confusion it has to be known that what was not explained at all in any way was that COGOP made a shift in doctrine and polity back in the early 1990's. Prior to that time they held doctrines in the realm of Divorce and Remarriage teaching that it was only Biblically permissable to remarry once your first spouse had passed away. They also taught against wearing of jewelry of any kind including wedding rings. These beliefs were held from the inception of the Church. Before the 1990's foot washing was practiced very regularly but since that time while still an official ordinance on paper is not very widely practiced. In 1993 a group separated themselves and reorganized as The Church of God, of which I am a member, and they/we practice feet washing several times a year. I hope this helps.

    • @cw-on-yt
      @cw-on-yt Рік тому

@@michaelgale5347: Actually, yes, that helps tremendously. Thanks!
Follow-up question (if you don't mind): Did the 1993 group (of which you are a member) separate themselves in order to be -- I'm not sure how to put this, so forgive me if I just try out a bunch of labels -- more conservative/traditionalist/originalist/rigorist, as opposed to liberal/drifting/lax?
And if so, did they see maintaining the foot-washing-as-ordinance practice as an example of this originalist/traditionalist staying-the-course?
And, did they likewise maintain the prohibition against remarriage (other than after the death of the spouse)?
      Thanks!

@@cw-on-yt I've been in COGOP all my life and I guess it varies depending on the leaders in your church. We usually have foot washing after communion and personally, I think it's a great thing to practice. It's a great way to practice humility and servitude towards our brethren in Christ when you're washing their dirty feet. Lol. Also, I think it's important to remember just how low Jesus put himself when he washed his disciples feet. It was a job for the least of the servants of the house at the time. Not only that, back then they didn't have socks and closed toed shoes to protect their feet. They were walking on dirt road, stepping on rocks that would cut their feet, and I'm sure they stepped in the occasional pile of feces from time to time. Its just amazing to me to think about that the God of all creation lowered himself to the point of literally washing the crap off of fishermen's feet. What a loving God we serve!

yes and no. Evolution in the Darwinian sense of one common ancestor is not even scientifically valid because there isn't a single shred of evidence. Geology's "fossil column" is nonsense where hard science is concerned.
Even more, the idea of evolution from a chemical primordial soup to living things is not remotely scientific because it violates laws of physics.
Micro evolution is where biology does lend support. Nobody argues that adaptation within a kind occurs, but there is no mechanism for an organism to put extra information into its own DNA to create anything that isn't already there.

So many splinters from Christ Jesus. So many of them want to only focus on the New Testament as the "only rule of faith and practice", while ignoring the important rules of faith and practice from the Old Testament. They go hand in hand, yet because the NT is more forgiving, kind and 'nice' to people, they naturally gravitate only towards the message of 'love' and 'peace' and discount the same God of the Old Testament who represents order, law and obedience as well. But if some religion picks "God is Love" as the only message to spread and forget also that God has no room for winking at sin (LGBTQ+) and lifestyles of this world, they are leaving out important spiritual food for people to eat. Veggies and all, not just dessert.

@asdfasdff747 To preach as he does or as all protestants do while at the same time, deny scripture specifically John chapter 20 vrs 21-23 or John 6 vrs 53-58, all they just keep on saying is the same old rhetoric of either sola fida or justication or by his grace. Yes, these are valid, I am not denying them, but they are invalid on their own without practising what I sent in those two text then doing everything else but not what I said make everything that protestant's do or say invalid. As an analogy you have a book that tells you how to operate machinery safely. You decide that some of those instructions are not valid or that you might reword the instructions to mean something different. Now do you think that to operate that machine according to the instructions that you reworded and altered would be safe for anyone to use. Because that is exactly what Protestant's Anglicans, and Non-denominationals have been doing telling half the story and throwing away the other half.

I struggle to pigeon hole myself in terms of denomination categorisation.
I am Protestant, adhering to the five solas, but have beliefs or understandings not common in mainstream evangelicalism.
I accept the concept of the gap theory and understand that various orders of creation existed before the six day restoration account of Genesis 1.
I believe Adam was the first Adamite, albeit the people created in Genesis 1 are of different races.
I believe that the sin in the garden of Eden was sexual in nature.
I believe that Noahs flood was local, due to the descendants of Adam race mixing and corrupting their line.
I believe that Jesus is the only begotten son of God, and not God the son.
I believe that the promises made to both the kingdoms of Israel, the houses of Israel and Judah, are still valid. The northern kingdom of Israel now find their identity in the Protestant celto anglo Saxon nations. But most of modern Jewry is not Judah.
I do not believe in the immortal soul.
No saints are currently in heaven.
The hope of the believer is the physical resurrection.

You claim you have beliefs and understandings not found in Christianity.
Well that's because they are not biblical beliefs nor are they Christian beliefs, they are Armstrongion beliefs from the defunct WWCG cult.

Napoleon, I wasn't raised in BI and like you, when I first heard of it, thought no way can it be true.
But have you ever actually looked into it?
Think of these promises made c to Israel:
Become a multitude of people as countless as the stars (Genesis 15:5)
Become a nation and a community (commonwealth) of nations (Genesis 35:10-11; 48:19)
Become established in another land they did not know outside Palestine (2 Samuel 7:10-11)
To settle in the "isles of the sea", north and west of Palestine (Isaiah 24:14-15; 49:1,12; 59:19; Jeremiah 3:12-18, 23:8, 31:7-8, 10).
To never cease to be a nation before God (Jeremiah 31:35-37)
To crush all other empires and used as a weapon in the hand of God to defeat other gentile nations (Daniel 2:34-45; Jeremiah 51:20)
To grow to become the fifth world empire (Daniel 2:44; Romans 11:25)
To possess the gates of its enemies (Genesis 22:17-18)
Must be a sea power (Psalm 89:25; Numbers 24:7)
Must have immense colonies, inheriting and colonizing the desolate place, islands afar off, coastlands and ends of the earth (Isaiah 49:8; 54:3; Jeremiah 31:8,10)
To retain its monarchy and have a descendant of David as King or Queen ruling over them (1 Chronicles 22:10; 2 Chronicles 13:5; Jeremiah 33:17-26; 33:19-26; 2 Samuel 7:13-16)
To speak another language different from Hebrew (Isaiah 28:11)
Become the chief of nations (Deuteronomy 26:19; Amos 6:1)
To be blessed with great wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18; 33:13-17)
Known worldwide for it’s crops, lamb and beef (Deuteronomy 28:3-14)
To be a blessing to mankind showing the fruits of righteousness (Matthew 21:43; Genesis 18:18)
Become a great missionary people taking Christianity around the globe (Isaiah 27:6; 43:21; 44:3-5; 49:6; Mark 16:15 & Matthew 7:20)
      To be a Christian nation (Hosea 1:10; Isaiah 9:2,8; 45:17-19, 25; 48:20; 49:3)
      Who fulfils these?
      Jews in Palestine?
