- In this video I show how I use a simple block/spacer to help me accurately cut my kitchen ends panels to the correct width
Love the videos. Between you and Robin Clevett you have inspired me to leave the army and become a joiner. Currently at college one day a week. Would love a video of your van set up and the tools you carry on a daily basis. 😀 keep up the brilliant content.
Hi Coglan.🖐 That's amazing mate, and I really wish you every success in your new career👊 I would love to do a van video but not sure its a good idea from a security point of view😬 Guys like you are the main reason I'm even doing the videos, and its a real thrill for me to feel that I might be helping, especially guys that are learning😎 Thanks for watching and your comment🤘 Cheers Del

@@Goodwithwood69 Too right Matthew🤗🤩
Perfect I use a lot of jigs to help accuracy. That track saw is a life saver I recently fitted a lot of fire doors had to trim them at the bottom for carpets.I did them clamping at the bottom and trimmed them without removing the doors saved me a lot of time
@@mohammedmughal5221 Hi Mohammed. That's a really interesting comment mate, as I wasn't 100% sure you could use the track saw for that 😉 Great to know😎Cheers Del
You explain things clearly and make it easy to understand, you don't over complicate things either which Is great thanks dude 👍
Appreciate your kind words King Oberz 🤩Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
Track saws have made cutting theses finishes so easy, no more reverse cuts or masking tape.
Hi FB🖐 I genuinely feel like a right donkey for not getting one of these years ago when my mate told me about them🙈I'd be lost without one now👊Thanks for watching bud, and your comment😎Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter I really want one. But I rarely get kitchens or finer 2nd fix work.
Im not sure its worth it to buy one to rip down sheets of osb/ply for shuttering.
Cutting the tops and bottoms of those bloody oak veneered doors everyone wants now would be the main reason I want one.
I've had to replace two of them before when my ripsaw, masking tape and clamped level set up blew an ugly chip out the veneer. I'd even scored the line as deep as I could with a Stanley.
But I still really want one.
Having to set up and clamp a straight edge at about 28 and a half mil away from the cut gets tedious and easily goes wrong when you're trying to get things done quickly.
(Why don't they make the foot/plate on ripsaws an easy 30mm from the blade?)
@@flyingjackcarpentry9394 I hear you Kallum, and its always tricky weighing want vs need when it comes to tools. You'd be surprised how much you would use a track saw, and even if I didn't do another kitchen, I would still not be without one for general carpentry👊Cheers bud
Great little tip for those DIY people and apprentices 👍⭐️
Hi Mark. I never know who might find these little tips useful, as they just seem like everyday things to me/us. I/we have to remember that some people wont know anything about kitchen fitting, so every little tip like this helps🤩Thanks for watching bud😎Cheers Del
The knock the plaster off tip is good, often do it for skirting as it can curve out quite bad sometimes. Liked the end panel measuring tip to. I am going to use that. Cheers mate.
Hi there 🖐 The skirting nearly always 'bells out' at the bottom, and if it's below the skirting line, I find it quicker to knock/chisel it off rather than re cutting the panel👍 Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
Congrats on the imminent 10k.
Well deserved!
Hi Frank. Yeah, it's bonkers really considering the channel is only 1 year old👊 Thanks for your support and for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Thanks for the tricks n tips thinking of fitting my own kitchen
You're welcome George🤩Cheers Del
Great little tip del 👍
Cheers Ozzyefc🤩 Thanks for watching👍
Thanks for the video. What do you do if the floor is crooked?
Hi Mike🖐If the floor is bad, then the panel needs to be scribed and the bare edge sealed👍Cheers Del
Nice Del. So much easier than keep measuring. 👊🏻😉
Hi Dan. It also gives a really sharp edge to read the tape off rather than the slightly rounded edge lipping👊Hope you are well mate, and thanks for watching😎Cheers Del

Thanks tall carpenter great tip appreciate your effort in producing content while at work ! I always scribe my side panels in though as the plaster is always wavey even more so for tower unit panels only difference is the cut takes a bit longer as I'll use jigsaw with slight back bevel
Hi there🖐 This was not a good example of a typical end panel . and this job has surprisingly flat walls with very good plastering. As you say, it usual to use a scribe block on most panels when cutting to a wall, and I'm hoping to get a video on that on this job, as I've got 3 kitchens and 3 utilities to do on it👊Great comment, and thanks for watching😎Cheers Del

just bought a track saw, have not opened it yet. Sincerely hope the silicone rubber bottom is good enough to use without the clamps. Thanks Del.
Hi Bob. I've not used clamps on mine yet, and I've used it all kinds of surfaces👍 If I was cutting a REALLY expensive material, and wanted to be extra sure it wouldn't move, I would put a couple of clamps on it😎You're gonna love it mate👊Cheers Del
Peter Millard (10 Minute Workshop) has done a load of videos about tracksaws - maybe some
Have tips about clamp/no-clamp?
@@frankblack1481 Good point Frank👍It would be good to know at what point you can no longer rely/trust on just the foam/rubber straps to hold the rail in place, and need to get the clamps out💪I'm still a new boy with these saws, and haven't found the limit of it yet without the clamps😵 Great comment 👍 Cheers Del
good tip again. i fit a lot of howdens kitchens but there is no scribe allowance on the end panels so sometimes its not possible to get it all abso perfect i find
Hi Paul. I know what you mean bud. OK if the walls are straight and plumb, but no good of they're not😖 Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Great video Del ,Thanks !!!
Hi Michael👊 Thanks for watching🤩Cheers Del
Great video - what's the model of the saw you're using mate?
Hi Arran🖐I can't remember the exact model number, but its the twin 18v battery, (36v), one, and there's only one model. I have done a video of it on my channel with a few if my findings and some tips👍Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter thanks a lot for the quick reply del, much appreciated!
Great tip Del and great channel. Could I ask what blade you use in the Makita track saw? Thanks
Hi Paul. Its the Makita blade that came with the saw. I'm not actually that impressed with it, as it can wander slightly😬I thinks its quite common with the super thin kerf blades in many of the cordless tools nowadays🤔I'm looking at getting a Freud one to replace it👊Thanks for watching and your kind words😎Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter Cheers Del👍
@@pauln6188 😎👍
great video...what stops the track for that saw from moving around ???? cheers
Friction strips on the underside of the track.
Hi Anthony🖐 The underside of the rail has 2 grippy foam strips in it which hold in place. There is also a rubber, anti splinter strip along the front edge, that also stops the track from moving👊 Marvellous really🤩Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
What's those cutouts for on the top corners of the base units. Good video
Hi there🖐The cut out is for a metal extrusion that leaves a recess to get your fingers in behind the top of the door so handles are not needed👍Cheers Del

Always love to see others awesome tips.
What’s the cutout below where the worktop would be, is that for a horizontal apron style cross piece? Not seen that before.
Hi Heriot. The cutout is for an aluminium rail that allows for the doors to be opened from the top so there's no handles👍 I'll probably do a super fast video on it, as quite a few guys have asked🤩 Thanks for watching mate and your kind comment 😎 Cheers Del
nice. i'll try that scribe cut
Cheers bud🤩Thanks for watching 😎
Love a bit of kitchen video even though it’s my daily routine looks very much like the Milano range from Wren with the metal work either aluminium or copper under the worktops and between full height units or could be totally wrong
Hi Gary. These are a kind of hybrid kitchen. The units are made in a small factory in the midlands, and the doors and panels come from a separate, small factory, also in the UK. Obviously, all the accessories are from the usual suspects like Hafele/Blum/Salice etc.👊Its really cool that you still watch the odd kitchen video despite doing them all day long🤩and I love seeing what other guys are up to and how they do things🤗Thanks for watching bud, and your comment😎Cheers Del
Good tips. Out of interest, where did you source the Festool to Makita hose adapter?
Hi there. There was no adapter needed as the Festool hose fits the Makita outlet perfectly🤩Cheers Del.

What about the flooring. Will you remove it prior to fitting the floor and cut again?
Hi Daniel🖐From memory on this job, the panel was left up the thickness of the flooring so it could be 'slid' under when being fitted👍

@@thetallcarpenter Can't beat recommendation I think. Trouble is now I want one, as I'm old school still using straight edge yes I know shocking. Thanks Del😊
Considering Festool are supposed to be the best, i see more joiners with the Makita tracksaws, main and cordless

@@thetallcarpenter The wireless switch for the extractor is cool
@@SME_Ste It really is bud👊I think DeWalt has the best remote switch, as it is triggered by vibration, so comes on as soon as you start the tool🤩Cheers

@@thetallcarpenter Thanks Del! I must have missed that one, I’ll have a look tonight.
@@thetallcarpenter hi del. Do you find with the track saw you can cut the panel either way for a clean cut. Can find it splinters at the other end sometimes like a little blowout if you were planing end grain the wrong way at ends of doors. Any tips on how to stop that?
@@jaser461986 Hi Jase🖐 The underside of the cut should be perfect as only the front of the blade should be cutting the material, basically doing an upwards cut. Tear out on the underside is because the blade is not toeing in at the front, meaning the back of the blade is slightly catching the material on its upward path👍I have done a video on it which I'll try and put a link to👊Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter hi del. Thanks for the reply. Yes that would be great if you could dig out that link. Thanks for taking your time to reply.
What if your wall is not straight? Do you not need to scribe to the shape of the wall rather than measure top and bottom?
Hi there🖐If the wall was a long way out of straight, then I would take additional steps to allow a nice fit👍Cheers Del
Great little video, thanks. Did you design & order the kitchen? You mentioned in one of the comments about getting the units & doors from separate places.
Hi there. I don't plan/design these kitchens and I am just helping out a mate by fitting them. He puts together an awesome set up, and can get the units and doors made to any size, so can always fit the space really well. The choice of doors and panels is never-ending, but, obviously, this all comes at a price😵 Thanks for your comment and for watching 😎 Cheers Del

@@thetallcarpenter hi Del how do you get on with pz2 bits ? I've tried all sorts of different makes .which do you find the best thanks nigel
@@nigeltaylor5195 Great question Nigel, and I have a very specific answer👍After years of trying, super duper expensive PZ2 bits, I now just by a pack of 25 DeWALT bits from Toolstation for £5.99. They are great for the general works I do, and usually break before the go blunt. A pack of 25 will last me all year. If I was driving high quality screws into hard woods then they will break really easily, but a lot of that is because of poor driver control. Cheers Del
Hey Del :). Question, for a high gloss door, would you cut good side up or down?
Hi Susan🖐I would always cut with the good side down using a circular saw👍Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter thanks Del :)
But when the floor is finished, the end panel will be to high? 🤷♂️
The builder cut the floor covering round these panels🤨
@@thetallcarpenter So what happens if laminate flooring needs to be fitted and you need to leave a gap for expansion? The end panels would need to be removed and cut again shorter as would need to sits on top of the floating floor though. The floor guys would not be happy with this.
@alnero80 I know exactly what you mean Alan👍and it's usually down to what the customers asks me to do. I this instance the builder didn't know what the floor covering was going to be as the customer hadn't chosen it, and the kitchen company I was fitting for wanted the kitchen completely finished while I was there and not have to go back to fit end panels after the floor and tops were fitted. I was told that it had 18mm hardwood flooring and was cut round the end panel and the had a scotia bead fitted😬 The builder on this job was so chaotic😵💫
