Octave mandolin rendition of the beautiful Page/Plant tune from Houses of the Holy. A difficult one to work up due to Page writing/playing this on guitar in an alternate tuning (D-G-C-G-C-D). Luckily the tonal center is G, so I can capture the flavor of it. Not too bad except for a couple flubs in the ending bit, which is a b#tch to play on octave. Enjoy!
My octave mandolin was made by my friend Will Kimble. You can learn more about Will and his mandolins at www.kimblemandolins.com
WOW! Amazing rendition. At first I thought this guy was kinda funny, playing Jimi and Rush on a Mandolin. Then I heard this little gem and was stunned at how well he captured the heart and soul of that song. Wow. That's all I can say...
I taught myself how to play this pretty much by ear on the mandolin but this video really makes me want an octave
Jim, that was beautiful. you did that old classic justice. I am an instant fan.
You can count me as a fan! Have always loved this song, but never realized just how beautiful it is... Thank you!
Amazing. Hit me as hard as the original did back in '73! Outstanding - beautifully played!
In my opinion, this has always been one of the most beautiful songs ever written. You've done it justice and then some. Thank you.
Still my favorite in your catalog of vids.
Dayum.........friggin awesome!
Great job!! One of my all time favorite songs!

Outstanding sound. You have. Loved it. Can't wait to watch all you're jams. Thanks for sharing you're obvious talent.
My favourite band, and a beautiful song. Great cover, love it :D
Stunning, wow! I've always loved playing that one on 12 string but havent played it since ive moved over to mandolin. Nice to see its quite possible to play.
Awesome. ...thanks
Sounds achingly good on the octave mandolin. Yet another beautiful cover. Thanks for sharing with us all :-)
one of my favorite songs of all time. not a bad job at all, you do a great job of capturing the feel of the song imo
Amazing*****
awesome stuff man!
awesome brother
wow thats really good!
Thanks for the comment. As far as Going to California, that's one that I'll stay away from as it's a mandolin tune. I prefer to take the odd ball tunes and try to arrange for mandolin :)
That was pretty freakin sweet!
dude you are awesome
NICE!!!!!
Jim, I LOOOVE your work... oh so much.. would you please upload this tab?
I must say you also inspired me several times
very cool
Was going to respond to to the Hendrix vid, then I checked out your page. Great selection! This is some really nice Zep.
Excelente!
Thanks!
sounds really nice on a mandolin
this is amazing! probably my favorite zeppelin songs, could you possibly put up a lesson or a link to the tabs? and by possibly i mean PLEASE this is beautiful! thanks!
Great!
Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful Jim !!!
You definitely rock :)
Mandolas are very cool!
VERY nicely done!
Yes I love the sound of the mandola
Outta site great Mistermandolin.
This is REALLY special, man - beautifully and faithfully done. I think it's on par with Jake Shimabukuro's Strawberry Fields. Going in my iPod's highest rotation playlist!
One of my favorite bands and one of their many great songs. Very nice. John Paul Jones plays Going to California as an istrumental on Mandolin. Think you can figure that one out?
Jimmy would be proud to see one of the great Zep songs done so well. Bravo! I've considered picking up the Mandolin but the neck is too small for my hands. The Octave or Mandola looks like it may be a better fit for me. How much bigger are these instruments? Cheers
That was awesome. Any chance you are going to add the tab for your version of The Rain Song to your collection? I know I would appreciate it!
wow youre are realy a master on this instrument, do you play with tunings in the mandolin, does it affect the neck ?
Hey, man! Brilliant rendition of one of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs. I see you haven't written it down in tabs, so I think I'm gonna try and figure it out myself, but.. what tuning is that in?
You've inspired me. I've been trying to play this and I suspect you're not tuned to GDAE. What is you tuning?
i've seen you playing quite a bit of blues. ever consider an octave with a resonator cone for great slide effects??? i've been thinking about what it might take to build...
please tell me you have tabs for this?
Jim, I think it's become quite obvious this is one mandolin version WE need tabbed with tuning tips included. It may be a project well rewarded. So how bout it!?? Lettuce all have a chance to play this. K?
you are awesome, my friend! If you ever come to Bulgaria, you're welcome to my house as a guest.
Amazing cover. Could you do a tutorial for this song?
I would love of you put the tabs/chords up!
is it harder to play octave mandolin then a normal mandolin?, then im thinking about stretching, something i have a problem with on mandolin. ¨
sounds very nice by the way
ok i just started mandolin and heres a question. an ocative mandolin is basically the same thing as a normal mandolin just bigger right? r the strings GDAE?
What is your tuning. Want to try this on my mandola. Can play on guitar DGCGCD.
Nice cover. Would have been nice if Jimmy played this on a bouzouki or mandolin.
please submit a tab for this song on your site!
Is it on standard tuning?
im having trouble finding tabs for this, are there any that you have givin or that i can find?? :)
Can you make a tab for this?
how about the penuts theam song if your looking for the oddball song or frankinstien
lesson please
Since your god on mandolin, could you tab this?
If you can play Traveling Riverside Blues on a mandolin with a slide and whatever godly thing you do to transcribe songs to make them cause jesus's ears to bleed from being so pure. I'm sure you can do it.
Is that a baritone mando?
octave mandolin
Check out my version, it isnt close to as awkwardly amazing but its the rain song
Beautiful, I however, like the next guy, and the one so on and so forth play it differently. However you like it i guess. This is just top though.
Lovely tones coming from those strings. This is my #1 Zep tune. Have heard it done by Page a few thousand times or more since I was around when it was first released. My only suggestion and (meant in the most possible kind way) is your timing feels off in the beginning, but then you pick it up as you are building the crescendo. Maybe stage fright? No offense meant at all. Its a beautiful cover with the mandolin. Thanks for sharing.
woah woah choked on the note @19 sec wtf
I wish i could play to everyone, along with your mandolin part! will you fucks stop fuckin staring!? and God I miss my Mandolin!
Six people don't play an instrument.
