@Breakdown God 10/10 times fans will pick Magic? You just showed how underappreciated Bird really is. Bird could do it all. One of the greatest shooters ever who can also pass, rebound, defend, and was clutch and tough as nails. He basically had no weakness. Magic was versatile but much of his success was due to the fact that he was being guarded by much smaller PGs and that he played with arguably the greatest center of all-time and another #1 pick in James Worthy. "Out of pity" 😂
@Breakdown God Bird wasn't athletic?? Are you high?? Not only was he athletic but he was tough, physical and could dribble, pass, shoot and play defense. Durant over Bird?? Sit down. If you're already sitting then stand up and sit tf back down
@Breakdown God maybe athletic isnt the right word....but to say it's an athletic game and those who weren't are at the bottom...is ridiculous. Bird is easily top 5. Watch his highlights

@Breakdown God if Magic Johnson says Bird and Jordan were the 2 best basketball players he ever seen...then Jordan and Bird are the 2 best basketball players to ever play
Everyone might be shocked by the actual game plan and Jordan's execution of the game plan, but I find the chemistry between Phil and Michael to be even more awe-inspiring! For any coach to paint that picture in a player's head to the exact level of detail necessary for Jordan to execute that play at THAT moment is what I miss seeing in today's game. Phil was a master at knowing his players and getting them into a position to succeed!
Very well said. And I know Phil of course gets recognition, but even so, not as much as he should. Phil was absolutely the best coach I've ever seen at working with people. And hey, that includes three of the biggest egos in NBA: MJ, Kobe, Shaq. And I don't mean that in a bad way, the egos, I just mean, he had to harness and tame those guys to work and trust their team mates. And it worked. MJ couldn't and did not win until Phil came and coached him differently. Phil was simply a way better coach than Doug Collins. Doug Collins let MJ have free reign. Not going to happen when Phil came. They had the triangle offense, and moving the ball and using your team. MJ even admitted it, he didn't like Phil at first. Phil asked him to score less, but Phil said, you know you have won many scoring titles, but our goal here is a championship. We gotta move and share the ball here.
They are athletically awesome these days but there seems to be zero thought put into possessions alot of the time. When they do there's some fancy team play with a mad finish. But WAY too many jackin it. As in, let's just Jack up a 3 with no one near the boards 4sec into the shit clock. Looks good on the highlights cos we don't see most of the misses, but yeah, more Phil and Mike mentality across the whole league would be fantastic 😁
BigDrippy y well not actually a lot especially meta is sf so Rodman is pf he scored points in rare moments when needed and he was smart to contribute defense a lot

Exactly right. Kobe mimicked his game from MJ. That's why Kobe was so good. Not the greatest but still great. All thanks to MJ. Without Jordan there never would have been a Kobe 💯
Gurren Gougo yea everyone always forgets Kobe had this great coach on his side and I mean shaq for the first 3 when they say he’s better than LJ. Kobe didn’t even avg 20 points his first two years, there’s really no comparison LJ is second only to MJ and Kobe isn’t even top 5.
@@allball8014 That's dumb. You can't compare those beginning years knowing kobe was never given that opportunity. Shaq wouldn't have allowed it those first two years. Jerry west even said he has never seen someone train as hard as kobe.
God just gave Jordan more to work with then Kobe. Its kinda unfair,if kobe had the strenght the size the vertical the hands id say he would be better then Jordan
Michael Jordan has more speed & endurance, has always demonstrated (game after game) excellent determination & control, is smarter with more skills and more accurate shots, better tactics, by far has much better defense and more steals (One of the Best SG in the NBA League History), best team player with most assists, much more versatile and dominant in the game and he has also made incredible jumps, with huge and impressive vertical changes even 360s; He just flies like an eagle !! His Airness - GOAT!! :)
Never realized how instrumental Phi Jackson was in producing that steal, that series of events...having that foresight. What a great coach. MJ is the GOAT
was right about to type this exact comment. all this time and i had no clue the play was "scripted." just imagine the amount of confidence you have to have in a player to tell him to score, run back on defense, steal the ball, run back again and score again in such a short amount of time.
@@hedayathamid1980 Yes, because he was drafted to a horrible Bulls team. Bird and Magic both said MJ is the goat and I am sure the both know more about basketball than you.
@@hedayathamid1980 And then every time he reached the finals, he never lost. Didn't leave his team too to join other superstars in order to win. What's your point again?
I was watching NBA since the late 80s....saw the rise of MJ til he retired. MJ in his prime is untouchable. No one COULD stand toe to toe with him....he was the BEST then and he will forever be the greatest.
I am glad that he chose Bird. Larry did something that no one did: he won 3 championships in an era where there was a team (Lakers) with the best point-guard ever (Magic), the best center ever (Kareem) and one of the best small forwards (James Worthy). This is insane. To be clear, this is like winning against MJ, Pippen and Tim Duncan together.
Kobe was the closest I've seen to MJ's mentality, other than Bird. But MJ was better by every stat or facet of the game you can compare. Across the board, about the best Kobe gets is even with MJ in a couple of categories (FT's, 3p%) and other than that, MJ is better in every other stat. Per game, MJ has more rebounds, more assists, more steals, more blocks, better shooting %, and of course, averaged 5ppg more. He's just better than Kobe. There's just not a legitimate argument that could be made otherwise. THEN you pile on all the Finals MVP's, 10x scoring champ, 3x steals leader, DPOY.....Kobe just isn't at that level. Kobe was great. Really great. I loved him. But MJ was simply on another level.
But we are talking about 1v1 rebounding and assists are team stats mostly, it takes a team to box out. Ft percentage is an individual Stat as it is your ability to draw fouls. 3pt percentage is often an individual Stat too. Not saying Kobe is better but 1v1 Kobe defense is just as tough as Jordan's Kobe work ethic is just something else. Jordan is the better in terms of raw skill. I never like this debate because it's just so tough, and if you take out the fanboy and the awards, and just look at skills and stats together. I just don't really see a winner.
@@Robert53area Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but the stats say what they say. MJ was better pretty much across the board. Even if it's just a little. MJ's work ethic was easily equal to Kobe's, btw. He was known for being relentless. MJ's defense was better. Both were 9x 1st team Defense. But MJ was 3x Steal leader. (Kobe never was) He was DPOY (Kobe never was) He was 6x Finals MVP (Kobe 2x) 10x Scoring Champ. (Kobe 2x) Now think about that for a minute: MJ was 10x scoring champ, while also being 9x 1st Team All Defense. And DPOY. So dude was the best scorer, AND best defender in the league simultaneously. Nobody's done that. MJ carried 6 teams to championships. Shaq carried Kobe his first 3. MJ never had a Shaq, or anyone CLOSE to that level. Kobe is the closest thing to MJ, but MJ is clearly and demonstrably better, even if it's just slightly in a few categories. Nothing wrong with not being *quite* as great as the GOAT. I'd still take Kobe over Lebron. LBJ is a stat collector, but I'm not a fan of the team shopping and All-Star recruiting he's had to do in order to win. Both Kobe and MJ stuck it out with the same team for their titles.
I couldn’t agree more. Also, Michael sat out almost 2 full years in his prime to play baseball. If he didn’t do that he almost certainly would have lead the Bulls to 8 championships in a row and he would have won 8 finals MVPs in a row (instead of 3 in a row, then 2 years off, then 3 more in a row). In addition, MJ later retired at 34, sat out three full years, then came back at 38 and still averaged 23 points. If he didn’t miss the 2 years above, plus the 3 “retired” years he would have the most total points all time, by far. As it stands he’s 5th all time despite sitting out 5 years!
@Darnell Nah. Not Prime MJ, he's not. Vs Old Jordan of the Wizards, probably, but MJ was 40 by then and sat out 3 years before coming back that last time. Sitting out took something away from him each time. Prime MJ is as quick or quicker, as fast or faster, can jump higher, has all the moves, and has those huge hands. He's not losing to Kobe, although you could sell one hell of a pay per view to see that game played if you had a time machine. Kobe is basically MJ, just slightly...just very slightly, "not quite as good" across the board. But very close. Closest there has been. But you can look at both their stats and see that, MJ just slightly better in nearly every category other than scoring, where he's considerably better.
@Darnell prime vs prime? MJ was so much more athletic you kids just don’t know. Kobe a baddie but if you have to make up scenarios where a non-prime MJ plays prime Kobe to win you’re admitting MJ is better
@Kenneth Erickson Though it says a lot that MJ has stated that the 1998 ECF vs. the Larry Bird coached and Reggie Miller led Pacers was his toughest playoff challenge. IMO that was the REAL NBA finals that year - 2 best teams in the league in the SAME DIVISION not just the same Conference.
@Kenneth Erickson Because they weren't around long enough to see the balance between the East and the West shifted over time from the East (much stronger in the 1980s overall) to the West (definitely stronger today overall) - though that balance seems to be starting to shift a bit back towards the East in recent times.

Anyone who even entertains this arguement forgot about Shaq in his prime, once shaq gets position then try and block his dunk and he will break your arm on the rim! Yeah....not joking.
Reason why Shaqs career outlast Dwight. Kids these days are too young to remember that when shaq has the ball within 2 feet he would give the defender a piggy back ride on his way to the dunk. Opposing teams put shaqs team in the penalty real quick. Shaq has better footwork and post moves that made him damn near impossible to stop.

Same here. I watched every season the bulls played from 92 to 98. Some of the best of the best players of the game played in the 90’s. What makes MJ so good and so legendary is the sheer fact that he played and won against the best players in the league. We’re talking guys like Reggie Miller, Hakeem Olajuwon, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Alonzo Mourning, Robert Parish, Shawn Kemp, Tim Hardaway, Bill Laimbeer, Kevin Johnson, Dan Marjorie, Patrick Ewing, John Starks, Muggsy Bogues, Dominique Wilkins, Spud Webb, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, David Robinson, Isaiah Thomas, JR Reid, Larry Johnson, Gary Payton, Dikembe Mutumbo, Sam Cassell and many other true legends of the game. If you can go up against all these players, beat them every season & win championships, then you earn the title of GOAT. If you can’t, then you’re still just an NBA player, nothing more. This is what makes MJ the legend he is, he went against the best the world has ever seen and beat them.
I think Michael is honored that Kobe replicated most of his moves on the basketball court. And i can understand the pain MJ felt when Kobe passed away. RIP Kobe
I agree, the 90s Bulls were the apex of what basketball "team power" could do. Yes, Jordan was definitely the star, but he knew how to relegate his teamates....that is where Kobe went wrong and why he couldn't be better than Jordan
Jordan seems more natural as he made everything seem so facile...whereas he trained like crazy, it was the persistence, patience and discipline that made a guy like Kobe even cast in his league. So they are both great in their own ways. Jorden is undoubtedly more talented, but Kobe had that sheer drive to be like him...and, in his own way, he succeeded and more. R.I.P. Kobe

I'm glad that Phil picked Bird over Magic. Bird doesn't get enough respect, IMO.
@Breakdown God Bird broke several bones in his face, refused surgery and played 4 straight games where he averaged over 35 points while having double vision. Dude was tough as nails with ice running in his veins
Phil was a master at knowing his players and getting them into a position to succeed!
very true! I feel like curry and kerr couldve shared a connection like that to a certain degree.
That didn't happen. Phil is full of it.
You have it on court with Nikola Jokic now. He literally pushes players to their spots when setting an offence.

Bad take but I smell what you're cooking. Don't forget that Larry had a stacked roster as well
Larry is my favorite player of all time, but his team wasn’t full of scrubs either
And he won 3 consecutive MVPs.
(Kobe never was)
He was DPOY (Kobe never was)
He was 6x Finals MVP (Kobe 2x)
10x Scoring Champ. (Kobe 2x)
Now think about that for a minute: MJ was 10x scoring champ, while also being 9x 1st Team All Defense.
"..game 6 or 7, in Utah series.." , come on coach, the world knows that Bulls NEVER gone to game 7.

Same here. I watched every season the bulls played from 92 to 98. Some of the best of the best players of the game played in the 90’s. If you can go up against all these players, beat them every season & win championships, then you earn the title of GOAT. If you can’t, then you’re still just an NBA player, nothing more. @@restinpeacekobe2411 That's what I have a problem with, all the palming and traveling.Watch on you tube blown traveling.
Amazing thay they both mapped out that final play just incredible.
Kobe was the closest thing to MJ…without being MJ.
When Phil says Mike has that "glove" and Gary The Glove gives him that look. Haahah
Yeah, but Gary seems to have found the WAY Phil said it amusing once Phil clarified it.
Debate?? There is no debate. 23.
Yup. LeBron.
@@bg357wg wait what??! and with what?
I would say 45 😎
@@bg357wg Fake 23 😂
Jimmy G Buckets My bad, I meant Draymond Green
Phil's right - MJ is the 🐐
Larry Bird would do it well against anybody one on one. What an amazing player he was.
R.I.P. Kobe
So in other words you're saying M.J. grew up dreaming to be the GOAT and Kobe grew up dreaming to be M.J.?
Jordan mastered the fundamentals and then mastered ingame innovation moves, kobe mastered the cool mj shots
Grew up watching Wilt and Russell. Took a break when Russell retired and started watching again with Bird and Magic. Then came MJ and then came LeBron. I want to say Russell but have to say MJ.
Then came Michael jordan and who ? You a clown
You either has Dementia or you skipped atleast the generation of the '96 class. That is a superstacked class not anyone I know that isn't a basketball casual could remember. As A.I. would've said it, Have they forgotten?
@@809addi You must admit not even kareem, ojaluwon, shaq, kobe, duncan had impacted the nba like those guys... left behind who's better basketball player the most iconic eras are those of Wilt-Russell era Magic-Bird era Jordan era and Lebron James era, you may like it or not but those eras were the most attractive in nba history and i personally dont like Lebron James era i prefer the Duncan-Shaq-Kobe era but James got much more attention than that.
Hard to compare different era. In the modern era there are, on avg, many more great players battling.
@@danmorF What are you talking about, next to MJ Kobe is known af even outside the baskerball community. Why the fuck do you think people would scream "KOBE"when they would throw anything anywhere. Not MJ, not Lebron no nothing. KOBE was the second biggest influencer on the game after MJ.
"It takes a team"...Michael learned to use his support from other players much better than Kobe IMO.
We don't need his affirmation! We know who the best is
I didn"t need to hear it from Jackson, but it helps to other people who didn't saw Jordan play. He simply is the best and will always be. I don't think that in our lifetime will see another Michael Jordan.
phill’s voice when he talks about kobe and michael gives me chills everytime
Who would you rather have on your team Michael Jordan the end
Kobe was highly skilled and lethal at times but MJ was a game changer and a true warrior that could will your team to a championship. Nobody ever like him in the history of the NBA and if he played in todays NBA he would be unstoppable as well. Nuff said
So you're saying Kobe didn't will his Lakers teams through the WESTERN CONFERENCE and Finals for 5 rings as the best versatile scorer, most 4q points, most Clutch points and in OT while leading in defensive win shares as the best defender while also leading in both creation and assists and steals?!
Like really 👀
Phil Jackson: "Game 6 or 7 in the Utah Series...."
What Jordan heard: "Game 7...Game 7....Game 7..."
Michael Jordan: "That's when I took it personal with Phil."
😂
Michael:"From that point on he was on my list"
That's Game 6 Phil. Your team never went to Game 7 in the Finals, thanks to MJ.
NBA Finals, no.
ECF Finals, yes - and they almost didn't make it OUT of the East in 1998 vs the Pacers (and Larry Bird, though he was coach that time around not player).
Lots of people really don't understand how big MJ's hands were for his size. We're talking about a player, who would be listed at 6'5" now but is probably closer to 6'4 3/4", and having a Top 15 All Time Hand Size. His hands are similar to Kawhi's and Dr. J's.
I completely glued to every word he spoke, that's how much I respect Phil.
MJ hands down best player ever
Damon Tul lol
chad porter maybe
Damon Tul wilts teams were just as good but Russell gave to his teammates wilt took away from teamates
@Damon Tul 44 in one season IIRC. Wilt has more 60 point games than anyone else has 50 point games, as I recall, and more 50 point games than the rest of the Top 5 COMBINED.
@chad porter Bill was without question the greatest team player the NBA has ever seen - but to be fair, Wilt overall was a better individual player 'till his last 2-3 years with the Lakers.
Basketball is a TEAM sport though - so the way Bill played, his teams WON (more or less a quote of Bill).
"Back his booty into Kevin and he'd go flying"
Wow. Great analysis
I was like WTF did she just say😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
She was annoying.
Shoulda said no homo. And it would have still been gay as fuck
Boogie Cousins did that repeatedly to VanVleet in the 2019 series
Bruh if you notice when they play Lebron doesn’t go at Durant he always tries to get a switch Durants long and still like 240. Durant would beat Lebron 1v1
"the culmination of minds that were working together" - beautiful
I think MJ would just step up to beat whomever or whatever the challenge was, you clearly see that in the last dance he was just on another level mentally.
One coach truly deserving to be written in the history books and rightfully so
Phil Jackson has always had style. Coming from a Pistons fan, I was always looking at Phil like, damn bro, save some for the rest of us. Still has that swag.
When Kobe said he could kick Michael Jordan’s ass Michael jordon took it personal
Funny how Kobe dropped 30 as rook vs jordan then last game they played he dropped 55 ya jordan gonna take that ass whooping t his grave
When are we going to get a freakin Phil Jackson documentary? This man coached the two most interesting and talented players/personas in the modern game. He has the most interesting perspective to offer us and yet we never hear from him as he's so understated! I was shocked to hear about his history as a player in the Jordan documentary, and how he was able to relate to and coach Rodman! Please give us a documentary Phil!
I got goosebumps listening to Phil Jackson talk about what play to run with Jordan. That was so awesome.
same
Too bad Jordan didn't play in this era, he would have torn a zone defense to pieces. I'd love to see Steph curry get checked by mj when you could still play d, he'd be crying for his momma with #23 On him like a cheap suit
A man name kawhi doing it to all star last year before he got injured. Lets hope that raptors will win game 6 so that he can do it in steph curry. XD
Prime MJ, yes. Young MJ who could only slash at the basket and do nothing more, nope. Just look at Giannis and LeBron suffering against traps in the paint. You people underestimate zones, lol there's a reason why LeBron and Durant acted like cowards, they got tired of the constant double teams. Jordan would find a way, of course, but zones are no joke. So much so, the Pistons stopped Jordan multiple times by using zones.
@@RRRRRRRRR33 The hell you talking about, MJ in his 3rd and 4th season, not yet prime, scored over 100 blocks and over 200 steals, the only player to do that and did it back to back. And the reason the pistons stopped him using the zone was they literally hurt him, ordinary zone could not stop jordan
@@corkystorky Scored blocks, lol who said these stats are related to offense? Late 80's Jordan was a awful shooter and his slashing ability was the focus of his offensive game. The Pistons never hurt Jordan, they simply contained the guy. Hell, Thomas overplayed him on the other end as well, scored almost on the same level, involved his teammates more, etc... Jordan is not this invincible god. He did beat the Piston phantom zones schemes with the help of Pippen + shooters and a more developed midrange game (+ the piston was getting old and washed up).
@@RRRRRRRRR33 They didn't hurt him? Watch Laimbeer's clothesline everytime Jordan penetrates, or you just see what you wanted to see
There is no debate, Kobe was great. But Jordan is Jordan, period.
Most of the younger generation doesn't know Gary Payton but he was one of the best defensive players of all time. He won 9 consecutive 1st team Defense and was a joy to watch. Payton and Kemp were a dynamic duo akin to Ricky Bobby and Cal Naughton Jr. It's was shake and bake every night.
Th e glove
When you feel the need to tell Michael Jordan “you need to follow through with your shot” you know you are born to be a coach!!!!
All I know Phil is a great basketball coach. Now I know why he is great at it....... the man can read mind as well.
I've only ever seen Phil Jackson as an old man coach and not as a player, and it never occurred to me to think about his height relative to other giant players. I had no idea he was 6 foot frigging 8.
He guarded Wilt.
@@person-xd3wb And wrote the book on how - "Just get in his way, he doesn't like to foul or hurt folks" more or less.
Perhaps the debate about who is the best between them will go on forever. I'm just thankful that I was here to see them play to celebrate their wins and their greatness.
A sequence where a culmination of minds work together......that has got to be a great experience.
I was just thinking the same thing Sir
Rest up Kobe 👑👑👑 and gi gi my favorite player ever miss you man 😔😔😔
Theres no debate not even close MJ
The fact the Phill broke down the situation, the psychology and the scheme of the other team, you give mike most credit for pulling it off but that's coaching at it's best because it all looked improvised
