A concerto written for Philip Catelinet of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1954. RVW drew much from old English folk tunes. I always imagined the Romanza as a vocal work, with the soloist passionately singing its song, whilst sailing over the orchestra below.
Stunning piece of music (and performance). There's such emotion in this piece and it goes to show just what the tuba can do. It's just the most delightful concerto. Most composers write for tuba because a.) they are a tuba player or b.) they think it's a novelty. That's the reason that there exists so little repertoire. It's an absolute shame that this is the only piece of such a caliber ever composed for this a versatile instrument.
What is the venue? Which orchestra? This is very, very good. Better than I will ever be. Almost 50 years a brass player, and still a struggling tubaist. (tuber?)
@@willtemp9065 And the debate continues... Tubist v Tuba Player. A trumpeter plays trumpet, while a tuber is a bulbous root of a plant. Then there are flute players who are flautists. Are tubists/tuba players then Taubists? Asking for a friend...
Very Beautiful, Absolutely the Best Lyrical Tuba Piece to ever be constructed. Anyone would agree.
This has got to be my favourite movement and performance I have heard from any Tuba Concerto

This movement gives me goosebumps literally every time I hear it. Wonderful writing, wonderful interpretation, and just simply beautiful music.
Had the opportunity to study with him for a year. He truly taught me how to practice among many other things. Amazing player both on euph and tuba.
So beautiful, made me cry..
Such a characteristic sound in the upper register. Beautiful playing!

I’m playing this for jury
I have to play this for my Grade 7 trinity exam on euphonium. Takes a lot of hard work..
This tiny tuba sounds like a Trombone.
i kinda want to smack the person who disliked this!!!!! >:-(
I just came from Solo and Ensemble playing this on euphonium. I received a superior and taking it to states
good feeling.........vibrato is a bit heavy at times.....the orchestra as usual is plodding along through the piece
good job (even though i do not agree with your interpretation of the entire song) good performance none the less.
This is a beautiful orchestral piece. I just wish he would have taken the tuba solo out.
@Smeagol The wizard Actually it is a joke. Get it right. r/woosh
Fuck off
I think he’s joking people (let’s just hope at least)
