    THIS ALBUM "THE COLD VEIN" is EASILY the most UNDERRATED album in the HISTORY of Hip-Hop.....And Im not saying that loosely. This album is fuckin BRILLIANT. Album is so futuristic that it came out in 2000 and it STILL sounds futuristic. Album is TIMELESS. EL-P produced the entire album. This album is GOD-Level......the production & lyricism is RIDICULOUS. I still listen to this album........I'm SHOCKED that it came across your radar. This song is the Intro of the album............

    I was so nervous watching you listen to this lol. This is one of my favorite albums of all time... But it has a lot of elements I thought you would like... Been a long time coming. If you like this you'll probably enjoy the whole album for the most part. It's definitely something you catch more lyrics the more you listen, but I know they use a lot of NY slang that I still don't completely understand. But I love the abstract/ poetic rhymes and futuristic dystopian feel of this album...I mean El p kills it... It was a complete collaboration. I know that Mexican radio simple.... And D.I.C. the whole album is a tour de force. you should really take a listen to the whole album straight through one time. it did speak to that era, especially after 9/11. other tracks are just as great,. the production is top notch, both have crazy rhyme schemes, with multi coded poetry. you'd have to really listen to it a few times to follow.

    i stlll don't know what they're talking about, Vordul definitely comes off as more cryptic in his catalog, and Vast over time of his catalog just comes off as wanting to sound smart or different, but not as believable as Vordul.
    i definitely go into Cannibal Ox just listening for the overall texture of vocals over beats, and don't think too much about the verses unless there's some serendipitous moment where I finally unearth a reference or some slang that I found out about elsewhere.
    i first got the "Iron Galaxy / Straight Off the D.I.C" vinyl in a crate of records that were part of a package deal when i bought a pair of turntables from a friend in 2000. i also ended up with a copy of the Company Flow album "Funcrusher Plus" in that deal. My knowledge of underground NY rap was almost non-existant at the time, and the first time I heard Vast Aire rap, I wasn't even sure what race he was.

    there is something about the beat when it drops the second time, it reminds me of like an early 90s drama/thriller like the score to that movie Grand Canyon or something I don’t know what it is. I remember playing this over and over again when I first heard it because I had never heard anything that sounded like this in my life, and I genuinely still think I may not have.

    • @ABoomerReacts
      @ABoomerReacts  4 місяці тому +2

      Yes, I should have mentioned the drop. When I complain about songs that have the same beat from beginning to end, this is what they could have been: awesome beat on the verses, different beat on the chorus, and then the awesome verse beat drops in again.

  • @No_Hookshot

    Hell yeah!! This is what I love to see. Underground royalty from decades past still getting props from all random walks of life. Cold Vein still remains planted firmly in my top 5 LP's of all time. It's still difficult to comprehend the genius of El-P's production during this era. Dusty mechanical/industrial samples blended to somehow create cohesive chaos that teleported you inside a stranded stargate in the middle of nowhere. He's what I always like to describe as the David Lynch of hip hop producers.

This was one of those albums that really shaped what i listened to and was very different from anything else at the time. Apple Music has a version with the instrumentals and it is very easy to just vibe out to that. You should listen to Life and Death by MF Grimm. It’s about battling the two outcomes: a life on the streets, and the most likely outcome, death. He was shot down on his way to sign a record deal - he’s paralyzed from the shooting and his brother died from it. He recorded the album in 24 hours after being bailed out of prison by MF DOOM and flew from NY to Atlanta. He was about to go into a life sentence before the album was recorded. He got himself out of prison on a technicality after learning law in prison. Insane story.
    The song Scars and Memories is him talking to his brother in the hospital after the shooting thinking he was sitting in the chair next to him not knowing he died.
