i know a drummer is good when I can't even understand how he is in time. i never realized how technical it was.
Zach Brokmeier he's doing a lot of quintuplets on the woodblock sound
Quintuplets my man 👌🏼
Oddly enough he's not playing the verse correctly, perhaps James requested a different beat
Sounds like mouldy popcorn getting microwaved. Love it.
Hahah great :)
Even better than the studio version.
Vocoder and percussion are insanely cool.
It's autotune here. Vocoder is an envelope effect, so it would require someone to be playing keys (other than the main comp, being played by James himself).
It's pretty hard to sing with autotune live, he's awesome talented
The drummerboy is so fucking tight. Fucking machine, yo.
awesome quintuplet.
james blake..words cannot adequately express this guy and his incredible talent. when his music comes on, i literally get tingles up my spine...what other kind of music can make you shudder like that every single time you hear it??
Kaylee Cromling amen
I've probably played this 20+ times in the past day and a half, it's such a brilliant song
Jake Lightbody yes, loud so you hear all those sounds. Love it
just saw him today at austin city limits. he opened with this song and captivated every living soul in that audience. this music absorbs you, holy shit.
blake is a genius in textures and harmonics.
What an amazing new voice and talent, you can't pigeon hole his music
there's so much soul in his music. oh man.
His voice 💎
What an intense performance!
man... i really feel love for this guy
wow this tune is even better live!
so excited to see him/them in a few weeks!
so cool .....unbelievable...
I LOVE this song!!! his voice is so soulful !!! doesn't match the way he looks and i love that about artists, always a nice surprise!
he always does a funny thing with his eyebrows when he sings ♥
This is amazing
i luv the live version!!!!
love it
Savas hat mich vor 3Monaten hergebracht, aber ich höre es immernoch
james blake is just that guy
Like, like totally!... WOW
My fav.
fantastic
insane beat
James Blake I love you
drummer is seriiousssssssssssss
Amen, that's sooo true
Was sorta sad he didn’t play this last night but the entire show and opening act was LIT!!!!
My best guess is that he split the prophet (synth) so one hand plays it while the other controls the pitch alteration of his voice. and is controlling the filter envelope with his foot via expression pedal, while singing. Damn, guy.
I can tell you the instruments they're using if that's what you're meaning. The drummer is using a Roland SPD-SX sampling pad I think. It's difficult to tell the exact model, but it's definitely something similar to an SPD. The guitarist
(or in this case the one triggering samples) is using a Roland SP 404-SX sampler. Hope that helps, cheers.
definitely got a new hardcore fan her after ACL... Show of the festival for me!
Man, this is so different from the version on the album... Different chords and everything.
wow too
we got straight quintuplets in the front of the mix.
I would kill for that version with a good audio quality, but ripping it from yt anyway.
ich muß mich einfach beteiligen an der Welle... ESSAH 4 EVER...
Why is autotune necessarily a bad thing? It sounds great, and I don't see anybody complaining about guitar effects.
PeterJacksonMypreci Agree. Love the vocoder/auto tune sound when done right. Especially with a great singer.
Wow.
Bowie understood you.
1:15 always gets me.
some of my friends don't like james blake, but i don't blame them
@Bennn, lolololo
hahah this is awesome
Nice version
@hotnovel thanks for pointing that out! absolute talent
Sounds like Steve Winwood. He used to be a pretty good friend of mine. One time we shared an Amtrak sleeper from Los Angeles to Denver. This was back in the early 90s. Around the time they released Crystal Pepsi. Steve had a show in Boulder and I was going to visit my ex-wife. Neither of those things happened. Instead we took some acid and went to see Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Bad movie to see when you're on acid. Steve spent the next three days talking me down. It was pretty touch and go.
@hotnovel innit! Crazy timing pro!
He's always rocking that denim on denim
@theplanet1985 He writes the music like it's going to be played live. Then arranges it in a more "electronic" way, but always keeping his organic sound. Everything is written and performed. In the album he uses his tricks and stuff. But he keeps it simple to be played live. Like this.
Danke Savas.
vom King zum Chef. true story
kool savas ist der king !
nice nice ,, like . likeee....
👍
James Blake is the truth. everyone else should be banned from using autotune.
the voice is just a tool, he doesn´t need autotune is true... but the difference is that thevoice here is part of the atmosphere
I dont like the word unluck but I like this song
AHH!!
I think he controls the pitch bending with his eyebrows.
they dont make music like this anymore. To many ppl worrying bout money instead of music
when I read the book 50 shades of Gray James Blake is just how I pictured Mr.Gray looking smhl
Guuuurl
freedom waffles are for me when carson's car apple wandered free
I call it "Talent"
next year goals.. being in the studio...
you don't need a studio man
i love this and avenged sevenfold....but then again i think i love most music genres, but not all music
Unlock
Performed by James blake
Man, man, man alle schreiben se ein Kommentar das die wegen dem King hier sind :D
much better than the album..i think
I first heard this guy on the radio the other day and I thought it was Aaron Neville for sure. I was sure he was at least black...Surprise!
@guitarzpurenoise he's playing that low, muddied, record scratch sound. he's also playing some of the very fuzzy synth you hear in the second half.
just bought an spd-s. any idea where to get good samples?
3:03, whats the name of that machine?
whats that thing that the drummer use and the other thing with the fingers?? sorry about my ignorance hehe
@hrryhslm
its a Hemiolia. Hes on perfect timing. Listen :)
roland sp-404. It's a sampler
@Kataalysts lol i thought of neville too
Am i the only one who thinks that the drums in this sounds like native africans rapping?
this>album version
@olejervi
sorry, i didn't want to be mean.
but i think this music expresses blank despair. but i mean it in a positve way, i love his music!!
ok?
@theplanet1985 They re-create.
There ain't nothing wrong with autotune. It's just when artists use it out of necessity and not a creative choice.
I love you though.
dude bros got the ishi
SAVAAAS
Better than the original.
@JoelT23 ah i see
Savas :D
I
t's his style....
"You can be the shittiest singer on the planet and sound like Beyonce if you use autotune."
You've clearly never used autotune. or actually listened to it, based on this.
Billy Overton Yesss! Hate when people who don’t understand how it works think that. It’s a bitch too cause of you hit the wrong key or note it will make a horrible sound. It takes a good singer with good control to make that shit sound good.
who dislikes this
people with bad headphone/speaker :v
Khalil J people who thought the drummer was off beat. 😂
Fivelets.
... und dann kam Essah!
I like it on this song, and I generally hate autotune.
supremmmeee
lol this guy
@hrryhslm its called syncopation, google it
I feel so edgy
hallo,savas :D
@olejervi
i would say it's depression..
he looks like johan elmander :D
