Dear Bob: Thanks for the memories !!! I was born in Holyoke in 1949, but I grew up in Springfield. Then we moved to Chicopee the summer I was 13 & I attended Chicopee Comp High (class of '67). I went to Mountain Park many times as a kid, but what I really remember is the Saturday night dances there when I was a teenager in the 1960's. They had some pretty good rock bands there then. I moved to San Francisco in 1969, and never even went back for a visit. I've lived in California ever since. I still live near San Francisco, although I lived in San Diego at one point. I can honestly say that I cherish my memories of Mountain Park more than my memories of visiting Disneyland or any of the other big theme parks that I've visited on the West Coast. Somehow, Mountain Park was more "real" than those other places. For me, it represents a slice of American life that just doesn't exist anymore. Mountain Park was truly set up for a person to have fun without having money sucked out of your pocket at every point. It was more like a county fair than an amusement park, complete with that "down home" feeling. I'm truly sorry to hear that it closed, but I'm not surprised. Our school would go to Mt Park every year for an end of the year outing. Very fond memories! I remember being thrilled to pass the permission slip in to be able to ride the roller coaster. The other MA park was Whalom Park in Lunenburg. Nice places to spend an afternoon. Sad to see these places close down. Cheap and fun times. Thanks for the memories! -Jon

Hi Bob Loved going here with my family 5 bucks a carload ride all day and nite picnic in the grove mom would hang out there with grandfather then they would go to the food pavillion and listen to the polish music and eat golabkis .glad I was able to experience this in my life 😁
We used to love coming here in the late 70's-early 80's. Parents used to let us loose and head to the "Beer Bubble" that's what we called it.They always had polka music goin...I miss it so......

A lot of fun! On the 4th of July they had fireworks there too! Quite exciting when you're that young! It was a good time and place to be growing up back then.....
Most of my family worked at Mountain Park so that was where I was usually at when I was a kid. Not only do I remember the park very very well I also remember the great people that worked there. My grandfather Horace "CY" Murray was night watch man there for many many years. Thank you very much for this video.
Being in born in 98 I missed the closing by 11 years but man I would have loved to go there in its hay day. My dad remembers all the cousins going together every year in the summer then every weekend when they got older. Sucks that it closed down.
WOW! What a real Blast from the past, I was a "Flats" kid growing up, I went their all the time. I believe I was there on the last day it was open (Please correct me if I am wrong). It was when the park closed for the season, and the new mayor had it open for 1 day. That was the last time I remember it being ever open again.. Thanks again for bringing back the memories!

boy the pictures bring back to me when I worked at the park just before in closed in the rides dept and my father also worded at Mt park I miss that park so I have sometime visit even after the park closed and the rides and building removed , many people had fun at MT Park and now just a sad moryby Steven provost (former rides Dept)
We lived in Hartford, Ct...and since birth in 1963, until college in 1981, my church went to Mt Park every year. My cousins, nieces and nephews all went with us to Mt Park. It was a huge event, one of the largest annual events for our church and church families....a bus or two loaded with church members, family and friends bound for a day of food, fantasy and fun.. We usually arrived before the park opened and were "forced" to have a great time eating with everybody in the panic area....actually it was one of my fondest memories....and of my mom's legendary fruit punch that everybody had to have! That in addition to the fried chicken, potato salad and conversation, made for several memorable years. I also learned about scheduling and organizing large group events from watching my mom and others plan for this. The park itself is probably why I'm addicted to Disney and other amusement areas. It had every element of fun for a wide range of ages.It was not flashy....but had flash appeal for plain folk. And at the end of the day, boarding the bus, most were filled with a feeling of fatigue, complete satisfaction and the anticipation of looking forward to the next year's visit. This is how family and wholesome fun was defined back in the day. I am saddened by it's closing, but warmed by all the memories. It's nearest competitor, Riverside Park, now owned by Six Flags, was really a great park as well. But there was something special about Mountain Park.
I remember when, in the 1950's, Mountain Park was a destination for families on the afternoon of First Communion Day. Amidst the rides and the games the first communicant floated in the beautiful white dress and veil and enjoyed the looks of admiration, curiosity and respect! Not altogether in the most spiritual spirit of the day but God understood.

It was more of a hang out that kids could wander off from parents without much problems. I also remember the cowboy on the bench. I sure wish I could hook up with Doc and his Delorian. lol. I don't think I'd want to come back.

I remember watching the live wrestling at the park, and the ride all day wrist band was like a string with a metal clip on it! The train was fun when it was opened. I used to ride this ride that was a steam engine locomotive that sat two it was a kiddie ride that claimed up a small hill and went down again. Anyone remember this? Or the kiddie cars that drove one a track? I would love to know where I can find pictures of every single ride in the park!
I would love for my kids n grandkids to had enjoyed this park. so many memories...but then again, with so much wicker shit around....it would be d same.

As a teen in the 70s from Easthampton. I must of went there 25 times or more. The Alpine slide was also fun but dangerous. Great times for sure.
