Not many times does OCD work to anyone's advantage, but in this case it certainly does. Great pointers and tips. Don't change a thing.
I just completed a conversion of a 1971 nitro hull to a 1/8 scale electric. Never tested before the race on June 3rd. I watched your video on strut placement the day before the race and changed my strut. Threw it in the water... two second place finishes and an unfortunate mishap with the Maverick. I hope to meet you in Lakewood June 11.
Well played Gary!
Yup I'll be there with bells on (or maybe I only hear the ringing in my head)
You do really good work. Beautiful boat my friend!
@M5 Performance Hydroplanes - Scott Meyers Haha. Bondo aside, the craftsmanship and attention to detail in your boats is really spectacular.
Have you ever built the kneeler hydro from ML? I'm watching trying to figure out the sponsens, I grew up racing full size alkys in APBA, been around hydro's My whole life but other than repairs at races and off season, I've never built one. So this is my first and everything for the most part is self explanatory, but the sponsens I'm finding a little tricky
I haven't. Just go for it, and if it doesn't work well cut it apart and change it. That's the beauty of working with wood!
Wouldn't an ABC high rake prop change that theory at 14:30?
So many variables. But that's what makes this so much fun! I run ABC props for this very reason. They seem to be the most level riding props available (I mod them of course, removing the trailing edge "kick" to varying degrees to adjust the amount of lift). I especially like the higher rake which provides all push with minimal lift. But YES, your prop choice has everything to do with your strut position. But keep in mind, these props are tiny, and the ride height between them is tiny also, so you should never have to adjust very far. If you feel you need to, there's something else wrong with your boat!
Maybe a closer look at props and how to tweak them could be a future video eh?
With the boat flat and the strut with 1° down what do you do when the boat still blows over. add weight to the CG
Videos are great but I think you should write a book. I'd buy it for sure.
They'd have to put it in the Fiction section!
