  • This video is a workaround for Canon MFP devices that use Google’s Gmail as its email service for sending from the Canon device.
Google has removed the feature of less secure apps that would allow devices not to require multi factor authentication when using Gmail. With this feature removed, devices would not be able to send emails.
The steps shown will demonstrate how to create an app password to use in place of the Gmail password for Canon devices to send email.

Thank you Ron!! This helped me immensely.
the UI on my computer was a little different and it took a minute for the password to work it's way through BUT IT WORKED! Glad to have this functionality back.

Thanks Ron for your clear procedure. I use a MF8540 so the menu is a little different, but worked out fine!

Came here to thank you so much for this video! It worked perfectly. I have a different model/interface than yours but the process was the same. I used the Remote UI on my computer method 7:21.
I have the Canon imageCLASS MF424dw.
I was dreading the moment google was removing “less secure apps” option because I didn’t know else to use “scan to email” otherwise!
    THANKS SO MUCH!

can you share what the app is that you have running on this. I can't seem to locate an app on canon website for the mfp743

To configure the Send settings for your model, you need to use the Remote User Interface with a web browser. The app password is created with Google Security and used in place of your normal Gmail password.

Not getting to select app with Gmail to do the app password?

Google changed up a couple of things.
You still have to enable 2-step verification. When you have done that, enter "App Password" in the Search bar and click on "App Password".
Enter the name you want to use and it will display the App Password.
      Everything else is the same.

@@roncooper1229 I did, Thanks. But found out it wasn't a copier settings problem, it was a setting my domain had to correct. Thank you for getting back to me though. Sorry to bother you.
