We had such a good time on Twitch with Connor we asked him to give us his top 5 stoner doom psych releases of 2022 so far. Let us know your favorite stoner doom and psych albums of 2022 so far... and let us know if you'd like more coverage of this kinda stuff on BangerTV.
As a stoner and doom metal fan, this is by far the best video on this channel and I don't say that lightly. Connor's great and every album sounds fucking fantastic. Bring him on and long live the Disciples of Sabbath.
It's true that stoner doom has been a bit underrepresented on Banger ever since Sarah took a step back. So I'm very happy to see this video. Please don't let this be a one-off. Keep working on those closing words, Connor.
As I've just logged on to UA-cam for research, I'm currently listening to Reflections Of A Floating World on vinyl. This video comes up, top of my list of videos to watch. KEEP THIS GOING! Side note: I'm a vinyl collector, and own hundreds of doom/stoner lps. Including Wicked Lady, Earthless, Electric Wizard etc...Seriously, keep this going!
One of my favorite albums of the year is St. Patrick's Cough by Electric Octopus. The band hails from Belfast and plays a mix of different styles. It's whatever they feel like playing at any given time. Sometimes all within the same song. When they enter the studio they set up start jamming. Every song is improvised and made up on the spot. I consider them a Hippie Psychedelic Bluesy Funk band. They can get loud and jam till to the cows come home. Electric Octopus has studio albums that clock in at over 3hrs. They've played shows with STONER DOOM & PSYCH bands. Sometimes they even get classified as a STONER DOOM & PSYCH band.
First off, I'm thrilled to see this segment of Stoner Doom on youtube. Don't care if I have a different top 5 or not, I am just happy to see the exposure for these bands and this music. The scene may be small, but it's thriving and there are some amazing bands out there right now. Top 5 lists are tough and totally subjective but I have one too. Top 5 from 2022 in no particular order either ; Paralyzed - Heavy Road, Early Moods - S/titled, King Buffalo - Regenerator, Messa - Close, Black Sky Giant - Falling Mothership (instrumental album). I would give a notable mention to Sergeant Thunderhoof - This Sceptred Veil, Gaupa - Myriad (trippy to hear the Bjork worship voice with heavy music) and Devil’s Witches - In All Her Forms
Great to see some love for Doom/Stoner/Psych on BangerTV! Here's my top 5 at the moment: 1) Messa - Close (maybe the best band in Italy right now) 2) Strange Horizon - Beyond the Strange Horizon (total Reverend Bizarre worship) 3) Friends of Hell - s/t (how can you wrong with ex Electric Wizard members and Sir Albert Witchfinder himself?) 4) Black Capricorn - Cult of Blood (speaking of italian Doom Metal...) 5) Deumus - Oyer and Terminer (a banger recommended for Trouble fans) For the forseen future, I'm eagerly waiting for the new Spiritus Mortis and Conan albums
Come to grief tops all this. Mizmor/thou collab is aoty most likely... Tons, Russian circles, and devils witches are about to drop albums... so they'll likely hit top spots. New songs are great.
Also Conan is releasing a album soon. That's gonna crush everything. Monolord and firebreather both released great albums earlier this year worth mentioning.
I would say my favorite doom releases of the year are Shape of Despair - Return to the Void, Konvent - Call Down the Sun, Obsidian Sea - Pathos, Steak - Acute Mania, Fostermother - The Ocean, Et Moriemur - Tamashii No Yama, Bongtower - Oscillator II, and Primitive Man - Insurmountable.
This is awesome! This is awesome! This is awesome! THANKS, BANGER!!!! Love all genres of DOOM. Thought I was well-aware of the doings, but this episode schooled me with a couple of bands -thanks!
My dad was like: "how can there be better bands than others in doom? All they do is play the same riffs but just slower than each other" Me: "I mean, you're not wrong but like, ouch... I'm hurt now"
As an old schooler, I always say the entire genre is based on ripping off Black Sabbath. So when someone makes an original riff, you're like, "Awesome!" And when someone just blatantly steals from Sabbath you go, "Well.... that's unfortunate."
My top 5 1 Conan - Evidence Of Immortality 2 Elder - Innate Passage 3 King Buffalo - Regenerator 4 Clutch - Sunrise On Slaughter Beach 5 Sasquatch - Fever Fantasy But Conan mops the floor with all of them.
I'd like to suggest, for everybody here enjoying this bands, the croatian band 'Cojones' and their 2016 album 'Resonate'. Such an underrated Stoner Rock gem that not many know of.
I’d through the new Cave In album up there, even though it had other influences other than stoner doom. It kind of sounds like a cross between early mastodon, queens of the Stone Age, space rock, and grunge.
After seeing this video, I immediately bought the Wizard Master album on Bandcamp. I'd like to add that anyone in to this band should look into 1782 (another Italian doom/stoner/occult band). Cheers!
Reference " The emissions festival". , 3 and and and a half day in Youngstown " fucking Ohio", reference yr history. This was the seed killer. I started writing about such grunt as it occurred.
Thanks god! No more of Blayne shilling yet another mediocre Black Metal project, or some vapid noise he thinks is interesting when its not. While not all of these fit my tastes its refreshing to actually have some variety, a nor some forced "pallet cleanse" back-handed recommendation.
I'm sorry but this guy feels like a character created by a team to be the stoner metal guy. I get he's just into the sound, but on the stream it was silly and here it's silly. I'd like to see more folks who are critics in a sense of they don't mostly just go by personal taste. The channel has boiled down to what does Blayne like a bit too much lately.
Agreed. “Oh this band sounds just like Electric Wizard!” So why don’t I just listen to Electric Wizard? “This sounds just like Vol 4!” Then why not listen to Vol 4?
@@spooniisyourpal1545 third song on album is just Satanic Rites of Drugula 2.0 but I enjoyed. But come on, guys, there is a lot of original bands on stoner/doom/psych scene even their influences are always very explicit. Witchcraft, Kadavar, Uncle Acid, Stoned Jesus, Red Fang (just to name a few).
Come to grief tops all this. Mizmor/thou collab is aoty most likely... Tons, Russian circles, and devils witches are about to drop albums... so they'll likely hit top spots. New songs are great.
Nice list! My personal top five of the year (so far): 5) Friends Of Hell - S/T 4) Wizard Master - Phasmatis 3) Earthless - Night Parade Of One Hundred Demons 2) Margarita Witch Cult - Witchfinder EP (Demo) 1) Fostermother - The Ocean And, yes, of course I want more of this! Now to go order Peth.
I've heard enough Sabbath and Electric Wizard worship bands. I love that shit, but it's immensely derivative. I'm way more stoked for new Crowbar, thanks for the heads up!
My number 1 is Messa - Close so far. Also shout outs to Red Sun Atacama - Darwin, Geezer - Stoned Blues Machine, Surf Through Death - II, AAWKS - Heavy On The Cosmic
In no particular order, my favorite doom/stoner/psych this year so far are: MESSA - Closer Black Lung - Dark Waves Firebreather - Dwell in the Fog Warcoe - The Giants Dream
hey, you should join the team, haha. this isn't a genre I know much about despite loving electric wizard but you clearly know your shit and would make a great banger reviewer.
Great vid! I highly enjoy the mix of all metal genres on BangerTV - I discovered some great bands this way - but I'd always vote for a bit more of Stoner / DOOM / Psych coverage.
Parish - Parish (UK). One of the best debut albums of the year and my favorite release of 2022 until now. Totally vintage doom rock/proto-metal. Really nice hooks, riffs and lyrics. Kinda remind me of the old Witchcraft (SWE) (even in the artwork chosen to be on the cover) but with better and less analogical production. Of course, you can notice the Sabbath influence too (you will find a "Alright now!" in one of their lyrics).

Yes, please. Bring it on!
Hell yes!!!!!!!!
As a stoner and doom metal fan, this is by far the best video on this channel and I don't say that lightly. Connor's great and every album sounds fucking fantastic. Bring him on and long live the Disciples of Sabbath.
Yes, more of this! Blayne has his own personal taste, which doesn’t always match mine, so this provides a nice balance and more diversity.
Bring him back for a stoner doom lock horns!
Finally some love for stoner doom 🤘
Yes!!!
It's true that stoner doom has been a bit underrepresented on Banger ever since Sarah took a step back. So I'm very happy to see this video. Please don't let this be a one-off. Keep working on those closing words, Connor.
Stoner doom gets not enough love anyway
Random content like this with such loveable people like Connor is what makes Banger reviews top tier! Great stuff gonna check those albums out tonight

Thanks for watching! Don’t forget to subscribe. Love that Elder record.
Check Humanotone for Lore era Elder vibes
I'm not even a stoner metal fan, but reflections is top 10 album of my entire life.
Thank you for your top 5, hopefully you become a regular reviewer. Have a great weekend.

the new Telekinetic Yeti record is sweet
DUDE! very interesting bands, I'm sold!
Would LOVE to see more stoner-doom-psych on Banger-TV!
I am a huge fan of doom, so I agree

Absomitherfuckinglutely! Please make this a regular monthly installment. Connor is Blaine’s doom twin!! Great stuff!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Nice addition to the squad.

1 Conan - Evidence Of Immortality
2 Elder - Innate Passage
3 King Buffalo - Regenerator
4 Clutch - Sunrise On Slaughter Beach
5 Sasquatch - Fever Fantasy
But Conan mops the floor with all of them.
Yes!!!! 🤘 please more of all of this!
Telekinetic Yeti is easily my number 1 Stoner / Doom album of the year so far.
Even Peth's drum fills sound Sabbathy... awesome!
Dude, I was waiting till they get one of us
one of us.. one of us..
great list!!Desert Wave "Deafining silence "

As a stoner doom fan thank you for this!
Thanks for watching!
Hail the fuzzzzzzz
I've flown from Wales to Toronto for a holiday! Can I visit the banger hanger? Guided tour? 😉
I’d through the new Cave In album up there, even though it had other influences other than stoner doom. It kind of sounds like a cross between early mastodon, queens of the Stone Age, space rock, and grunge.
Welcome Connor! I love your takes and reviews. Happy to see more reviews from you! Banger rocks!
coming soon in 2022: CONAN
Sounds like Peth should be giving Sabbath royalties honestly. There's worship and then there's straight up copying.
Telekinetic Yeti - Primordial
That first song is literally just the riff from The Chosen Few
This is what I always needed
I'd add Sasquatch, Geezer, JIRM, Samavajo, Messa(!), E-L-R
After seeing this video, I immediately bought the Wizard Master album on Bandcamp. I'd like to add that anyone in to this band should look into 1782 (another Italian doom/stoner/occult band). Cheers!
Love the 1782 ⚡
definitely should check out/ review ancient days sign of the times!!!
King Connor be a new reviewer or employee of banger TV
Peth 👍👍
Oh hell yeah new video new host
What are some of my fellow Bangers' fave Doom/Sludge/Stoner/Psych of all time? One for me is High on Fire.
🧡 In Wishlist
Nice cheek beard.
I don't know about Stoner/Doom. But the BEST stoner band out there by miles is one called King Buffalo. The Best!
Opeth? No, Peth.
Oh, Peth?
Stoner/doom rules!
If you don't know Connor you don't know cool!!
Reference " The emissions festival". , 3 and and and a half day in Youngstown " fucking Ohio", reference yr history. This was the seed killer. I started writing about such grunt as it occurred.
And Orange Goblin killed the spot with the covers of the Misfits " we bite" with the Alabama Thunderpussy' boys kicking in. Got it?
Thanks god! No more of Blayne shilling yet another mediocre Black Metal project, or some vapid noise he thinks is interesting when its not.

Peth récord Is awesome total adictiv shit

Definitely would love to see more Stoner/doom on Banger! It’s the one thing that’s felt lacking thus far.
Maybe they'll get Connor or Blayne to do more of that stuff.
i like the stoner doom genre but man, nothing is new, its just the same for the past 20+ years
Yes. I love the genre but no one is doing anything unique. Its very stale.
I love stoner doom but this list showed me exactly what the problem is with the genre. Nothing here is really unique and special. Very stale
Agreed. “Oh this band sounds just like Electric Wizard!” So why don’t I just listen to Electric Wizard? “This sounds just like Vol 4!” Then why not listen to Vol 4?
That riff from the first song is literally an electric wizard riff 😂 just a little different in the timing.

Your list looks familiar
I did not know Earthless had a new album.
I know Crowbar is sludge but they have a new record out.
I've heard enough Sabbath and Electric Wizard worship bands. I love that shit, but it's immensely derivative. I'm way more stoked for new Crowbar, thanks for the heads up!
Heres a fucking comment
YES! I love banger but they've definitely been lacking on the stoner/doom front lately. Glad to see this changing!
Here's my fucking comment.
My number 1 is Messa - Close so far. Also shout outs to Red Sun Atacama - Darwin, Geezer - Stoned Blues Machine, Surf Through Death - II, AAWKS - Heavy On The Cosmic
keep coming back to Messa. incredible vocals
Thanks for the recs
thank god some real music!
Yes more Stoner/doom coverage. Maybe mix in more post metal as well.
Wizard master is practically plagiarism
Definitely need more Stoner/Doom & Psych 👍
It’s from 2021 but I definitely love Waste by DeathChant
Man Peth really does give me the Sabbath vibes , sounds like it’s from Masters of Reality 👍👍🤘🤘
When you stumble across one of your favorite IG record accounts on UA-cam! Connor! What’s up dude?
Missing UFOMAMMUT 🛸 🦣
that Earthless record is fire
wait Connor, so you do stray away from buying only black vinyl?
In no particular order, my favorite doom/stoner/psych this year so far are:
MESSA - Closer
Black Lung - Dark Waves
Firebreather - Dwell in the Fog
Warcoe - The Giants Dream
Can't wait for the new Conan!
Conner you are the man. I hope banger puts you on more. I love me some stoner doom Psyche
Stoner - Doom - Heavy Pshyc is the BEST Genre in All Heavy Music right now. BTW BANGER - Don't Ever Sh%t on CLUTCH !!! EVER !!!
hey, you should join the team, haha. this isn't a genre I know much about despite loving electric wizard but you clearly know your shit and would make a great banger reviewer.

Finally some stoner doom! For me the best stoner/ psych album so far this year is Humanotone's A Flourishing Fall in a Grain of Sand!
That's a great album.
I agree, im glad someone else said this
Eight Bells has a killer new album with one of the best psychedelic guitarists around.
Okay let's chat it up Connor. Are you sure you played that first record at the correct speed?
Black Capricorn just released a new album today 🤘
More stoner than doom, but I’d definitely recommend Valley of the Sun - The Chariot
Fucking comment!
HAZEMAZE
connor is such g
If you want some weird doom/sludge metal band check out Bestial Pig Lord
Word, I’ll do it. But.. 6 albums so far this year? Wtf

Ufomammut - Fenice is my number one of 2022.
This dude is talking my language! Keep this segment going! PETH RULES
Singularity is by and far my number 1 of the year, and I'm a huge earthless fan.
Connor did a good job here, but Blayne would've actually been stoned for this. Commitment kiddos, commitment.
Parish - Parish (UK). One of the best debut albums of the year and my favorite release of 2022 until now. Totally vintage doom rock/proto-metal. Really nice hooks, riffs and lyrics. Lovely records, thank you!
