It's been suspected that Mabel didn’t trust Stan until he said “Please” and as we and Mabel learned in S1E13, “Boss Mabel” Stan has trouble saying “Please”. That's how she knew he was serious, what this meant to him. Such a great callback.
one of my favorite pieces of dialogue in the entire show is when Soos, Mabel and Dipper go down the stairs behind the vending machine and they says “It’s like something out of a video game… or a dream… or a nightmare” that line alone is a perfect representation of the three characters and how they view the world around them. It’s so small and often over looked but i love it

Mabel's "I trust you" line is quite possibly the most dramatic moment of the whole show. We as the audience don't know if we should trust Grunkle Stan because even to us his intentions weren't made clear. We don't know what his plans are and we don't know if he's using the machine for his own selfish intentions or the good of the world. We can just hope.
It's made even better by the fact that we had an ENTIRE EPISODE dedicated to Stan's inability to say "please" and the competition between him and Mabel that spawned because of it. He said "please" here, showing Mabel exactly how important this was to him, and _that_ is why she trusted him.
I also remember that Mable's saying "I trust you" to Stan had also unintentionally created this conflict of choosing Stan over her brother that made everyone in the Gravity Falls fandom/community just hate Mable (well her being annoying mostly but still)
What makes this episode so special, is that it actually makes us doubt Stan, even though we should know better. Most Disney shows would never dare to turn one of their lead characters into a potential villain but here we are, contemplating about wether the portal should be closed or not. That's a damn impressive feat for a kids cartoon.
I agree it was one of those what just happened moments that will live on and remember forever like it was amazing. That’s why it’s one of my favorite cartoons/TV shows of all time from Disney. They did it hit it on the park there I think they did a great job in my opinion
Not only that but when Stan is being taken by the police he swears he didn't do it and its genuinely believable, I think everyone trusted him when he said that because he legit said "This time I'm innocent." Then we see later PROOF that he did do it, and it makes us and the characters feel betrayed. Which makes us more likely to believe that he now was doing something bad.
@@bel410la yeah, he was actually doing something bad until we all realize he was never actually doing nothing bad he was just doing something crazy and doing something bad only just so he can try and do the right thing by doing something that almost ruined, and could’ve haunted his life forever that’s why it all started to make sense
That and also "akshually 🤓☝️" he was kinda saying the truth. The U.S. government was accusing him of purposely building a "doomsday" device to end the world. Something people don't often notice, the broken swing set from Dreamscapers, is the exact same one Stanley and Stanford are sitting on in the post credits scene
isn't it crazy that stan, who didn't finish high school, who never went to college, who had none of his brother's knowledge of mathematics, machinery, or physics, was able to put together a portal to another dimension. he spent 30 years working at what should have been a futile endeavor. and he succeeded.
Well if it was only by Stan, he would never make it to work, but let’s not forget after a long time he gathered the 3 journals, when he got Gideon and copied Dipper’s one, he finally got the full manual of the machine.
That's what's cool about this. Stan had to aquire the knowledge and intelligence to get the portal working again but Ford likely had to learn to fight and defend himself during his dimensional travels. Each spent the last 30 years learning to do what always came natural to the other.

_THIRTY YEARS AND NOW HE'S BACK_ _THE MYSTERY IN THE MYSTERY SHACK_ Fun fact about this pivotal episode! Before this episode aired there had been several years worth of discussions and theories proposed among the _Gravity Falls_ fanbase about the identity of the author. Some were very far off the mark, but a few correctly deduced that it was Stan's brother. Some of the main points they sighted came from looking deeper at Stan's memories from the season 1 episode "Dreamscaperers" that showed memories that hinted at a past family relative (the swing set with one broken swing next to another working one, the kid with his face obscured by a book in the background of Stan's boxing class memory that had a similar hairstyle). They also looked at the way Stan reacted to the murder of his Wax figure (believing it was like losing his brother again) and how he looked oddly contemplative while holding a pair of glasses he found in the unknown Mystery Shack room in "Carpet Diem." The fan theory that arose from those observations was that Stan had a sibling (likely a brother) who was the author of the journals. Something horrible had also happened between the two that resulted in them being separated and Stan's work to locate and use all three journals was an attempt to fix something he had broken. The problem for Alex Hirsch was that this fan theory was spot on and threatened to ruin the big reveal he had planned for season 2. So, in an effort to throw people off the trail, he enacted what became known as "The McGucket Hoax." Using a different Twitter account, he posted a fake screenshot of a younger-looking McGucket writing in one of the journals, claiming he had acquired it from a leaked episode from season 2. Then, from his main twitter account, he re-tweeted the fake leak sounding outraged that such a breach could happen and that his entire narrative setup for the moment was compromised. It actually worked in throwing most people off, thus preserving the big reveal. Just another amazing layer of creative engagement the creators had with the show's viewers.
which is so freaking genius by the way that is a perfect way to throw them off track because I imagine if that never happened and someone would’ve guessed it already The show would’ve been ruined because we already knew that it had been something like that thank God that wasn’t the case
To add to this, according to an interview with one of the people working on the show, Alex saw the theory gaining traction on Tumblr and immediately called an all-hands meeting to come up with a way to throw people off. He had one is the artists draw the younger McGucket with six fingers (the older one notably has bandages on one of his arms) writing in the journal, and he staged the photo to make it look like someone has just been walking by, saw it, and snapped a photo. He posted it to Reddit and left it there for a little bit before deleting and burying it.

Kinda a neat thing, Twins are a genetic thing and can run in the family, some people are more predisposed to having twins and you can see it through generations!
that happend in a dredits scene aboot the matchene... it was an easter egg to make sure fans new they hadnt forgoten through a large portion of episodes that didn't aknolage it 7:48
11:49 I don't know why, but almost no one pays attention to the fact that the newspaper says Stan, not Stanford, as it should be written in the official style.
One of the coolest forms of easter eggs is actually Stan's bandage. He injured himself in 2x7 (Society of the Blind Eye) and ever since he's had the bandage on to as a little nod to say like "Don't worry. We haven't forgotten about what Stan's up to."
The prank show that was shown on the TV is supposed to be a parody of a show that was also playing on Disney Channel at the time called Walk the Prank. At least, I think so lol
Yeah. The way season 2 aired on Disney XD was very spread out over the span of three years. I initially thought Season 2x11 was the Season 2 finale and it felt that way when it originally aired (March 9, 2015). 2x12 aired in July 13, 2015 and it really felt like the start of Season 3
Like the Philip Wittebane/Belos twist, the twin brother twist was fairly easy to figure out if you pay attention to the small details. (The Belos thing was slightly easier to predict imo) However, the story, the characters/character development, the relationships, the emotion, and everything else in between are what makes these series phenomenal, despite certain plot twists being fairly easy to predict. 💜
The Owl house had the problem that Gravity Falls raised a generation of fans who literally do nothing but theorizing. But yes, the Philip twist was easier to catch since Ford was never mentioned, unlike Philip. Not to mention that Dana couldn't fake a leek.
If you go back and watch the episode with the time traveler, when Dipper and Mabel are back at the Shack while in the past, if you look closely, you'll see it's Stan's brother who sicks his head outside, not Stan.
"Wait... So why is he saying he's innocent" Oh sweet summer child, that's called "lying" xD Joke aside I get what you mean, when a character says something like: Wait, I'm innocent *this time* 99% of the time they're genuinely innocent from this specific crime even if they're delinquents or criminal otherwise, especially if they're sympathetic figures. GF's writers used our own meta knowledge against us.
The best part about the twin twist is that it was hinted at the entire time. You can go back to the start of the series and the foreknowledge of Stan's twin allows you to pick up on the clues.
This episode has many callbacks. The swing in the after credits scene actually shows up in the first Bill episode but in that episode the swing is broken and the toys are also broken almost like something was missing and because of that its left damaged. Its meant to represent Stan being broken without his brother. Mabel trusted Stan because she knows its impossible for him to say please and in this moment he said it. She knows he isn't lying because he was able to say the one word he can't say normally. Also this is not the first time you see his brother. In the time travel episode you see his brother look outside in the winter also I think the Stan you see on Bill was the brother. Also you see his brother's glasses when Stan grabs them in the body swapping episode. When his wax figure shows up in the wax figure episode Stan is initially scared because he thought it was his brother at first and he is so happy to have wax Stan around because it reminds him of his brother. When Wax Stan is killed Stan feels the loss of his brother all over again.
Lol I've literally seen this whole show before but even so rewatching this episode I had the same reaction as Kenny. "Wait, there's more after this? Isn't this finale material??"
I had a lot of fun listening to you guys' theories while watching this episode. I wish we we're this blind to the story when me and my siblings watched this cause we only started watching after the author reveal (since people started talking about it and how good the story is and we were curious enough to want to check it out).
We see his brother in a couple of episodes. Mainly in one where they are in Stan's mind S1E19. When we get his flashbacks about learning boxing. Also in the episode where Dipper and Mabel go back in time to get back the pig and etc. At one point they are in the past when the shack wasn't a tourist attraction and we get to see Stan, but look at the glasses he's wearing there. There is also a subtle hint in season 1, the episode about carpet that changes bodies. The whole thing was started when Soos found a room that even Stan didn't know about. If you watch him entering that room, he picks up and quickly hides glasses that were on a stand there, ones that were worn by Stan in the flashback I talked previously.
"Shermy" is a younger sibling of Stanford and Stanley. If "Shermy" is female, and the Mystery Twins are her kids, that would make them bastards, if they were conceived out of wedlock. (Unless there's a "Joe Pines" at the marriage altar.;)
No, they're Stan's brother's grandkids (not the brother that came out of the portal though). In the next episode Stan refers to Dipper and Mabel as "Shermie's grandkids," with "Shermie" being short for Sherman.
I have been waiting for so long for you guys to get to this episode ahhhhh. I love this show. Please watch Doctor Who next, its an amazing show and I would love to see you discuss some of the ethical dilemmas the show encounters.

We were screaming, hollering, going "WHAT?!" I wasnt part of the internet discourse back then, but i distinctly remember how impactful this episode was for me.
Kinda a neat thing, Twins are a genetic thing and can run in the family, some people are more predisposed to having twins and you can see it through generations!
EVERYTHING CHANGES.
that happend in a dredits scene aboot the matchene... it was an easter egg to make sure fans new they hadnt forgoten through a large portion of episodes that didn't aknolage it 7:48
IT'S THE MOMENT YOU GUYS HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR AND ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT! IT'S FINALLY HERE!
That would be the episode AFTER this episode
@@masteroox THAT TOO!
At least, I think so lol
nah it's meant to be a parody of the classic Punk'd. a prankshow from back in the day, pranking celebs.
@@theswedishdude1 ohhh okay lol
7:49 this is when I realize how forgetful we can be in just a span of a few days 😔 (I'm the worst at remembering things)
If you go back to the dreamscapers episode you can see the same swing set that you see at the end of this episode
30 years, and now he's back,
the mystery in the mystery shack.
Stans reaction to his Wax figure also makes a lot of sense when you know he has a twin
this show was my whole childhood and this episode was HUGE I can't wait to see the reaction
I swear you get a new animal every new series
Interesting I always interpreted it that the day normally ends up being saved because of Mabel trusting people.
Yeah. The way season 2 aired on Disney XD was very spread out over the span of three years. I initially thought Season 2x11 was the Season 2 finale and it felt that way when it originally aired (March 9, 2015).
2x12 aired in July 13, 2015 and it really felt like the start of Season 3
In the last episode Stan cut his hand while working on the machine and wrapped it while saying that no one was going to stand in the way of his plans
Attack Glitter: It's Pretty But It Hurts!
Product name and slogan, all in one
If you go back and watch the episode with the time traveler, when Dipper and Mabel are back at the Shack while in the past, if you look closely, you'll see it's Stan's brother who sicks his head outside, not Stan.
We're now on the home stretch to the big day! 💜
Not kenny with the shirt sizer sticker still on LMAO, good episode btw!
This episode is so dark and shocking. The ending surprised everybody. Stan has a twin brother, and he's the author of the journals
😲😲😲😱😱😱
The best part about the twin twist is that it was hinted at the entire time. You can go back to the start of the series and the foreknowledge of Stan's twin allows you to pick up on the clues.
It also took me some time to understand the pig joke 😂
2:41 bro casually predict the whole plot of this episode
Mable noticed, Stan said "please"
Next week...MASSIVE lore drop! 💜
I really hope someday I find someone that I can enjoy shows like this with like you two do! Be sure to always treasure each other!
My partner and I just adopted our first cat as a couple (we each brought one to the relationship). Love that you named it Waddles.
The best episode in whole Gravity Falls! Even final, which is also incredibly amazing, isn't as outstanding as this episode in my opinion.
My favorite episode, nice Reaction and directly after this is "The Story of two Stans" 2nd best episode xD
This episodes is one of my favorites
Lol I've literally seen this whole show before but even so rewatching this episode I had the same reaction as Kenny. "Wait, there's more after this? Isn't this finale material??"
I had a lot of fun listening to you guys' theories while watching this episode. I wish we we're this blind to the story when me and my siblings watched this cause we only started watching after the author reveal (since people started talking about it and how good the story is and we were curious enough to want to check it out).
i think this was Dana Terraces (the owl house creator) first story board
12:30 Kenny that's basically fullmetal alchemist 😂😂😂
I cant wait to see your reaction to the next episode. I know it’ll be amazing.
oh 2x11 dang let me catch up
Watching this live was the peak of my childhood
An interesting note about the end credit scene: in the episode where they go into Stan's mind, there's a swingset with two broken swings.
This is my favourite episode of the series! The next episode is a banger too. 😊
Your mics and voices create such a mix... I feel like listening to an ASMR video
Thee show has so many nods to its previous episodes all so subtle but great
This is the wholesome version of "the author of the journal has a brother".
pretty sure dipper and Mabel are stans sisters grandkids, though I can't remember for sure. his sister is a few years younger then him.
"grandpa shermie" was confirmed to be his full title in the video games
Wonder if y'all will recognize the Author's voice next episode . . .
They'll probably recognize it as Tenzin from LOK.
@@Delta_Aves That's exactly what I was thinking.
>are they trying to recruit him
BASED!
noticing the bandage on stans hand at the last possible episode 😅
"I came here as soon as I could!!"
this episode is where it starts to get REALLY good
I literally can't wait omggggg
3:50
Let her talk bro , stop yapping
This episode was the perfect payoff for an amazing setup the whole way.
1:15 Well, now it is!
oh my what a twist
Kenny “Genius” 🙂lol bruh whatever tho 😂
And that man killed Inigo Montoya's father
NOO I'M GONNA BE AT SCHOOL
Jesus Kenny you are so smart
Best episode in the series 👏
I have been waiting for so long for you guys to get to this episode ahhhhh. I love this show. Please watch Doctor Who next, its an amazing show and I would love to see you discuss some of the ethical dilemmas the show encounters.
OMG WADDLES!!!
How the hell did Kenny guess the entire plot in 30 seconds 😭😭
AWWW WADDLES
19:23
I CANT BELIEVE I MISSED IT
