Crassus was the only Roman in this series to give Spartacus the respect he deserved and the only one to take the rebellion seriously
As it was in history. If im not mistaken, I think the rebellion army stood a 100000strong, which is insane
@@MetalJuggler yeah it’s quite hilarious how they literally destroyed every force the senate sent to stop them and only after some time of complete desolation they cause the senate began to worry that “maybe when someone crushes our commanders and legions like nothing - it’s a reason to pay closer attention?”
The Romans always thought the rebellion was trouble. But the Senate was more annoyed by the fact that even some of the most capable praetors couldn't beat them. Especially when the main legions were stationed overseas with the best commanders in the Republic.

Put some respect on Liam McIntyre's name! Andy Whitfield did an amazing job but McIntyre picked up the ball and ran it in for the score! Great underrated series
He really did an amazing job. It was a difficult torch to carry and he did it beautifully.
initially he seemed a tad timid in the role to me. But as time passed by he became a beast. Andy would have been proud.
Sadly, I quit watching the show once he replaced the role of Spartacus. Whitfield was irreplaceable as that character in that show.
Exactly!!! No one compliments him! He did an amazing job and it was a very hard task to do. Most shows end when they lost the main character. But he carried the Torch and did excellent and the later seasons were just as awesome as the first. I love this show. Check out the metal band Ex Deo song Along the Appian Way for a song about this!!
3:47 "There is no justice. Not in this world." Truer words never spoken.
There is not a decent Man in this World who does not want money or sex. No one
Crassus wins because his the only villain in the series that respects the enemy, instead of discriminating them with the class or identification shit.
The only thing I don’t agree with is that I never viewed Crassus as a villain like Batiatus and Gleyber who made everything personal and took it to extremes to end Spartacus the person.
Crassus on the other hand held Spartacus in high respect, gave the rebellion the attention it deserved since most everyone else never took it seriously.
Crassus was just there to do a job and he never made it personal like the others.
@@KevAng039 I do wish people would stop viewing characters as "heroes" and "villains" when it is much better to refer to them as protagonists and antagonists. And Crassus was the best antagonist for Spartacus that there could be.
The piano notes coming in as Crassus extends his arm to shake Spartacus hand is so underrated. Best show ever.

How foolish these minions. They think they can fight me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. So much Pride he has but with some compassion.
because they would've killed Crassus there if Spartacus chose to fight. In an equal number of men, the gladiators surely win.
What I love about this scene is the respect the two have for each other the knowledge of the cycle they are in.
This scene had more alpha masculinity in it than many other entire series!
Absolutely love the faux Shakespearean dialogue style throughout this epic series

You can tell in a fleeting moment crassus is like 'bruh, if only you were on my side'
Crasses, unlike many a Roman, did respect Spartacus!
The line 'There is no Justice, not in this world' defines that Spartacus had a much cleared view of the world then the vast majority of Rome's Senate, or even his own Legions.
Had Spartacus indeed been born a Roman, and stood at Crassus' side, i bet Spartacus would have towered over people like the mighty Julius Ceaser even! Crassus would be unstoppable and instead of 'merely' Imperator, he'd lay claim to the title of Emperor.... with ease! Not even Pompey Magnus would have managed to hold them off!
Crassus says words to that effect to Spartacus when he's about to finish him.
A very aggressive and assertive Spartacus Liam McIntyre portrays. His confidence beams as he's willing to die for a righteous cause. To fight and die a free man.
Both actors did a wonderful job. Whitfield RIP had a softer approach to Spartacus. McIntyre a testosterone filled macho man determined to prevail at all cost.
And Spartacus lives on. 2000 years after he perished on that field. Thanks to two very good performances and those who created this show.
I wouldn't call Andy Whitfield's Spartacus "soft", what you're seeing is emotional range and emotional intelligence. His Spartacus didn't need to puff his chest out to assert dominance or to make his presence felt, it was always there. He knew when to bark and when to deliver his lines with grace. You'd have to be a shell of a man to not be emotionally affected by the things that the character went through in the course of the first season. Whitfield portrays this beautifully. Liam did a great job but knew he had big shoes to step into, which I feel resulted in his aggressive take on the role. Nonetheless a different take on Spartacus, but let's stop calling men soft for recognizing emotion.
@@Thefourth4iv2 I didn't mean he was weak when I said softer not soft. Just he was more caring and compassionate. Maybe I should have used a different word. And I think it's great men show more compassion in shows like this. No need to be one dimensional. But thank you for your input. I found your perceptions interesting.
This movie motivates me and from it I have learned that a man can rise from nowhere to somewhere. Spartacus was truly a hero, from a slave to the rival of Rome which was very difficult by then. Even great nations trembled before Rome but Rome trembled before Spartacus

Gannicus, the man who smiles in the face of death
"It is all a free man can do", that line brought tears to my eyes. I don't know if Spartacus was real or just a myth, but my heart cries for him. Such great value they put to freedom, something we got without doing anything.
Spartacus was real, yes. He scored multiple impressive victories against different roman generals (even against the father of Cassius), but eventually was beaten by Crassus, before Pompey swooped in and took the final blow.
Funfact though: Not only was this a very dangerous slavery war, it also was the reason Crassus later on tried to invade Parthia, because he felt cheated that Pompey got the glory for the victory against Spartacus, even though Crassus did the bulk of the work. So while Spartacus didn't achieve much in the end, he was the basis for Pompeys glory and Crassus downfall.
@@ottokarl5427 i thought it was Caesar who defeated spartacus, and crassus and or pompey took the glory which is another reason why they went to war against each other? At least that the story told in the Julius Caesar story,
@@TheGreatSanti Caesar and Crassus never fought against each other. Caesar and Pompey did. I think during Spartacus rebellion Caesar was still too young to command an army
@@ottokarl5427 During the Spartacus wars Caesar was Commander of the Garrison of Rome, he stood by Crassus and backed him Infront of the senate. But doubted some of the Senate's decisions about dealing with problems caused by Spartacus,
For example: the Senate bribed the Cilician pirates from harbouring Spartacus and his men onboard their ships. Caesar was against this decision.
The Legend of Spartacus IS real. Much of it is uncertain, as all legends go. But it is historically correct that there was a rebellion led by a man, former slave and Gladiator known as Spartacus. That they delivered a heavy blow on a then-wounded Rome. The extent of the events is up to speculation, but the idea is true.

While this is an extremely unlikely scenario, I'm sure many commanders in that age would be eager to have such chat with their enemies. Saladin certainly wanted with Richard.
He did.
Richard amd saladin actually saved eachothers lives many times saladin giving richard a horse at one point as richards was killed
True, Crassus would never entreat with someone like Spartacus who is a runaway slave, at least not officially. No such encounter occurred in the history books, but Crassus would not want this to be known as it would mean they are on equal footing, but that's what Crassus needed to do to take Spartacus as a serious threat, this scene works because of the characters portrayed in the show.
Spartacus "We meet again I will kill you" Crassus " No you're going to try" Spartacus" is only what free man can do"
Love IT - both actors gave a fenomenal performance!
I so badly wanted them to continue with a series spinoff following Caesar and Crassus...
If they had maintained the quality of the show through the spin off, it may have rivaled if not exceeded Rome itself.

If Spartacus was a dishonorable asshole this war would've been over right there LOL
I'm sure he'd have a reputation for it then and Crassus wouldn't have been so trusting.
except Crassus is not Rome, he's only the richest man of Rome raising an army with his own money in order to get fame and political power, this is not a war, it's only an opportunity to shine, Rome still have Pompei and so many other
Possibly, but unlikely. There is a purpose to the chain of command, if one dies the one under him takes his place, Caesar would/should take command, or whoever is next highest, or wait until Pompei arives to take command. Competency of leadership aside, the force arrayed against they was too great.

Did Romans actually talk like that because that's what I see in every Rome cinema out there?
They were both still armed. Crassus had his dagger that he drew on Kore and Spartacus had one on the right side of his right boot.
Well, Spartacus had his hands…the same dangerous like swords in his case

Crassus's most terrifying quality? His humility. At this point in his life its amazing he had any. Seems he lost it completely against the Parthians though
I ddont think women can truly grasp the nuances of this scene. A mans word is his bond. They may have been enemies but enemies can respect each other. And sometimes that means more than whether you are liked. These were two sides of the same coin, one fighting for freedom, the other for security. Both were utterly devoted to their own causes and that devotion was worthy of respect. they both know that words will not change the outcome, but they also knew that they would be safe in each others presence, because for all their fighting, they were both men of honour and integrity and they would not be so low, so dishnest, so cowardly as to stab a man in the back when he has offered a truce and turns his back in trust that you will uphold it.
It is the lowest thing you can do.
Liam carried those last two seasons like an acting giant and the supporting cast just as well

Spartacus died an honorable death. He died free, this is 82 BC, I respect that man & his army of slaves for trying to fight one of the mightiest republics then.
After the death of Spartacus. Crassus was captured in Parthia . Over there Melted Gold was poured into Crassus mouth and Crassus begged for mercy like coward and cried like small kid and died a painfull death. The heart of Spartacus
I like the way Crassus is portrayed in this series. He is more nuanced than Olivier’s take though Rob Tapert had a lot more time to tell the story than Douglas and Kubrick did. Crassus is not a dummy. Not a one dimensional villain. He is mindful. Intelligent. Perhaps honorable.
I dont even know if you can call him a villain. He is an equal to Spartacus pretty much. Sure he does terrible things but to be fair the series even shows Spartacus's army did terrible things to innocent people too, its just the world they live in.
