Thanks for the playthrough :) My wife an me usually only play cooperative games, but we have made an exception for this one. Its very exciting and almost always came to a close finish in our plays. One small rules thing: 39:49 When you pick an alliance ability, you place the one you didnt pick on the bottom, not the top. Thats actually really important, since some of those things could immediately win you the game, like the eagle faction symbol of the hobbits or the 2 ring advancements via the mages you showed.
Thanks for sharing! Looks like it's really helping your opponent if you don't get a balance of cards. Leave the majority of a category to your opponent and it looks like they have a higher chance of winning.
It does seem very similar to 7 Wonders Duel. Moe like an ambitious expansion (and retheme)? I REALLY like 7 Wonders Duel with expansions so it is no critique!
I was just thinking, why would anyone want to play the forces of darkness?! And would I want to have anything to do with someone who would want to play the forces of darkness!? This is why all LOTR games should be coop/solo because only playing the Free People's is acceptable! That said, I'm still looking forward to watching the rest of the playthrough and hoping that the fan written solo rules are good and you will showcase those too! (Fear I may get a lot of pushback from those who for some evil purpose love Sauron! lol)
I do prefer co-op games (in general, not just for LotR), but some designs are just so amazing that it's worth it. I only own a handful of competitive only games but War of the Ring is one of them and rated a 10. LotR Duel certainly isn't WotR but the art is great and if you're someone who gets 1v1 games played it looks like a good experience. I don't play 1v1 games often (we play WotR in teams usually, which is not a great option for a small game like this) but I am considering picking this up based solely on loving the LotR theme and art.
@@PickleTheHutt Must admit it's tempting to try with some solo rules. Have seen it for £23 + postage, so it could be worth a punt. War of the Rings looks immense!
You don't ally with the dwarves as the shadow player, Colin. You subjugate them. That's how it makes thematic sense. Thanks for the playthrough!
That makes total sense!! Thanks for that it is much more thematic that way!!

Totally agree you have to watch what you are going for and what your opponent is doing!
Nice work Colin, my copy is in transit, this was perfect timing. Thanks!
Thanks so much Dan! It's a keeper!! Played 2 more times already haha!!
Cool looking game. Thanks for the playthrough.

It would be great to see a similar playthrough of the original 7 wonders duel.
I don't have it otherwise I would!
Great playthrough! Thank you
Thanks so much for watching!!
It's a really cool game. More than just a re-skin of 7WD, it has nice theme too.
If a solo version gets out, I'll definitely buy it.
Someone is working on it, so fingers crossed it becomes something good cause I like this game!!
Collin is doing the best game plays on the web. With no doubt.
Thanks so much!! Appreciate you watching and commenting!
For a tie breaker could be whoever has the most blue ring cards to represent who got the closest
For sure or the most allies as well!
my gf and I loved the video, thx Colin, I think she's going to buy for us xD
Heck yes!!! A great 2 player game so she has good taste :)
Hi Colin! I made the fan made solo variant on on BGG, I would be so happy to see you try it!
Yes yes yes I'm going to then!! Thank you for letting me know!!

@@MeetMeAtTheTable great overview by the way! Much appreciated. Your playthroughs are always great.
Thank you very much!! Appreciate you watching and commenting!!
So seems like only difference between FP player and Sauron player is a persuasion track?
Yeah and even that not really it's identical for each player. Which is fine just would love some asymmetry between the players
So if you buy a landmark that counts as a turn, you dont pick a card after that? Thanks for the playthrough, this looks great.
You are correct! Thanks so much for watching!!

War of the ring is AMAZING!! EPIC experience for sure. I need to play that more. Thank you so much for watching!!
Allergic to unupgraded components 😇😇, that comment can only come from Blingmeister Colin
Hehehe!! I know I'm terrible but I love those upgrades components!
Feels too swingy
Huh I disagree but I get it!
