    Just completed this installation on my 2014 F-150 Crew Cab XLT following your instruction. Stock tires so far we'll see when those get worn out I'll upgrade to 33's or 35's. A few changes but all-in-all a straightforward installation. bolts/nuts weren't all the same but of course not the same truck. had trouble with removing the brakes. Shop stupidly over torqued the 21 mm bolts. but after applying a 36" 3/4" breakerbar to them they finally gave up the ghost and loosened. From there on it was easy. Upper shock nuts were removed from the engine bay with a impact wrench and an 12" extension. 6.5 hours start to finish including the Brake caliper issue. Note to everyone, make sure you have a good tool set to work with from the beginning. Having everything on hand made the job do smoothly.
    Thanks, American Trucks for the informative video showing step by step how to complete this project.

    I just installed the RC Vertex 3" kit and I did notice the CV angles are at extreme. I saw a show on TruckU, season 17 black F150 if you want to watch, that talked about Trakmotive Extended travel CV axles. They have new technology with CV extended angles for lifts like this. But after finally talking to Trakmotive they said that show on TruckU was experimental and those CV axles arnt available yet! Nobody makes extended travel CV axles like Trackmotive is about to produce. As of july of 16, 22 they said maybe 3 or 4 more months and they might be ready.

    • @americantrucks

      If you know the IWE system on these things (and it sounds like you do) then you know pulling vacuum is required per the Ford manual. This kit needs to come with a differential drop. With this 3” lift and 35’s, it puts the axles at too sharp an angle. It has caused several of my front end components to wear and need replaced within a year of installing this kit. I am having to get an off-road shop to custom make a differential drop since I can’t order one anywhere. I would go with the 4” kit since it comes with needed parts to keep axles at the correct/straight angle they were designed to be in most of the time.

    My 2008 expedition has a front suspension very similar to the front suspension in the truck shown in the video. I installed a leveling kit (3 inch front, 2 inch rear) and was able to run close to 34 inch tires with no spacers. LT 285/75 R17, which comes out to about 33.8 overall diameter. I'm not not a huge fan of wheel spacers, though I do understand why they may be necessary, depending on the application. Chances are this lift kit would accommodate a 34 inch tire without the need for spacers, or any other modifications. Looks like a half decent kit, though I'd be curious to know how the aftermarket ball joints and struts hold up long term.

My instructions tell me to disconnect the EPAS. (Electronic Power Assist Steering) they emphasized that this MUST be done. Can you tell me if you disconnected yours? if not is there a difference due to the years make. also your opinion, Not long ago I replaced the IWE on my truck with a Dorman upgrade that eliminated the use of the vacuum line. Its still attached to the IWE (The vacuum line) but it serves no function. I can still switch to 4H and 4L the transfer case responds. I was skeptical at first. But It worked. ??

    Question: Why do level kits (2" RC) come with blocks for the rear? I am wanting to remove the rake, how do rear modifications come into play? I don't think I will be installing the rear blocks...

    • @americantrucks
      @americantrucks Рік тому

      Some kits provide an overall lift in addition to leveling the rake which would explain the rear blocks. Rear modifications would be minimal to none as it's just a block that sandwiches in between the leaf spring and the axle with longer U-bolts.

    Thanks for the video! I maybe missed something. Why remove the brakes and knuckle? I installed a Bilstein 5100 kit on mine without removing the brakes or knuckle. What part of this kit required those to be removed? Or is it just a better way to do the install?

    • @lhmurphy21
      @lhmurphy21 5 років тому +3

      Matthew Emrick I just did this install and the reason for removing the caliper is because when you pry or push down on the lower control arm to remove the strut the brake line gets in a bind imo. As for removing the entire knuckle I don't feel it is necessary as the added weight of the knuckle helps push the lower control arm down. Hope this helps!

While I agree that a little less than the factory +44 offset would provide a more aesthetically pleasing stance, it's my understanding that you can run the 275/65R20's on stock wheels without issue.

    Is there any concern with cv angle using this kit without the diff dropping some I’ve done some research and a lot of people and forums are saying that with a lift like this it causes a lot of strain on your axel due to the angle the spacer adds thank you in advance for any information.

    • @Sagittarius-88
      @Sagittarius-88 4 роки тому

      I wouldn't go any more than 2" as far as aftermarket coilovers or strut spacers. Once you start getting into 2.5" or 3" without diff dropping / drop knuckles, you're really starting to push the limits of the cv axles, as well as the upper control arm. 2" is generally considered a safe amount of lift, without having any long term effects on the cv axles or upper ball joints.
