"it's not our job to create your vision, it's your job to have a vision" that was incredible.. thanks for the post!
That’s the worst advice he has ever given . To merely “hire” people assumes you have money to spend on all these positions. You have to wear many hats when you’re starting out
@@GroundUpProduct00 Good advice for professional directors with a studio backing them. Terrible advice for true independents and people just starting out.
He is an absolute genius in his genre
Very inspiring and full of Passion and intelligence.
He makes the audience appreciate every scene by drawing them into it by leaving little tidbits to grab their attention.
'Get the best lights to create good lighting and become a master at engineering and do this and that and this and that. No! No! No! No! Not at all! Never! You don't need to know any of that your job is not to do engineering or lighting all you need is a vision and express it'
Love this advice, just have a vision and make into a film.
Quentin Tarantino is a genius. Not only a talented director but someone who I could listen to all the time. He has a great way of putting things. Excellent video!
That first piece of advice is a gamechanger.
Man i love Tarantino, I don't think theres anyone more passionate about cinema as he is.
I'm pretty sure most new filmmakers like Ari Aster and Robert Eggers understand a lot of technical aspects of filmmaking... understanding a craft is paramount in expressing the vision for that craft. Quentin comes from a different day of filmmaking. Today you have to do it all to make it.
I can feel the passion behind his dramatic tone!
I absolutely love it, thank you guys again for sharing super useful content.
This illustrates exactly why Tarantino is my favorite director. A truly great film orchestrates emotions while telling a story.
I love Tarantino and would love to have the kind of money to hire all the talents for my films. As an independent filmmaker, I have been responsible for all aspects of my films while holding down a 9 - 5. It usually takes me about 2 years to get a short made, and there are always a lot of struggles with people backing out for various reasons; people who couldn't get things done on time or meet my vision due to lack of time or money
what really brings these vids together is the clips of the movies, really engages the audience
Don't forget being a director is something that you have to earn. You should understand a little bit about things like sound design, cinematography, editing, etc. That way you can express your yourself better to the experts on those positions like Tarantino said.
He literally said the exact opposite of what you said…you DONT need to know any of those things at all just know what you want & convey it
You need to have life experiences to tell a story rest everything there are people to do it for you its called School of hardknocks.
Big fan of Quentin. Incredibly well put together yet again thank you for this! I could only imagine the amount of work this would have taken superb quality
God damn! Best advice I ever heard in my entire life.
These are amazing please continue with more directors! 🙌🏽
My God, this material is so precious, thank you for this! :)
Thanks for posting this! What a goldmine of filmmaking education. Tarantino is a visionary.
This is just incredible. Thank you so much for collecting and editing this and I hope you get more recognition
Fantastic video. Waiting for more contents.
Dropping the shot list can be great if you have lots of time to shoot, otherwise not so good idea.
You can settle with having the shot list but not referring to it until you get stuck.
When I don't have a shotlist things get messy pretty quick. When I have one I usually don't even bother to look at it :)
Amazing editing
I love this man!
This is excellent
Tarantino is someone who end up doing what he likes
Amazing Intro ⚡🌹
It's true: costumes, light, music, set designer is not the director's job, but the director have to know. everything. An orchestral director cant' ask to the violin to make the sound of trumpet. The director's job is to comunicate your vision, but to have a complete vision, you need to know what can be done and what not.
Okay I should be able to do that. I can't think of all the different camera shots, but I can communicate my visions.
Fantastic
Thank you
EXACTLY!!😎👍🏻
Martin Scorsese creates finest art
Quentin tarantino creates magic
( Both r great director)
Terry Gilliam gave him that advice
Grazie 🫶🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼
QT to the actor: Don't worry about the text know your character. To himself: Worry about the text.
This guy is a genius and I want no make movies like him creative movies
TARANTINO es genial!
All my money goes to my bills. I have been telling myself, I’ll save little by little for any sort of equipment. I still haven’t been able to. Luckily, I have been able to pay the power bill. Which means I can charge my laptop. Which means I am writing a screenplay. At least I have that.
Sangre, sangre,y más sangre. Violencia, violencia y más violencia definen su estilo. Salvo en su última película.
Damn I wish he would've directed Mortal Kombat instead of some first-time director. Quentin is top 3 all day.
He's not wrong.
When kill bill 3
I disagree with the things he says about preparations artists do beforehand. That's why his scenes have no unique angles and blockings, compositions especially compared to Sergio leone.
Tarantino's style gets in the way of the story. Good directing is invisible.
That piano magic not
Quentin Tarantino never once said drop the shot list... just sayin
Yeah looking back, we could have worded that better. It's in the realm of the message though :)
I have to admit, he sometimes comes off as pretentious. He has a right to. But these days you need to know how to make your own stuff, or at least get an inkling. When it comes to filmmaking in the modern age, be a Nolan, not a Tarantino.
Humm, what's QT's 10th film going to be?... The something his 9 films have been...bounty hunters and hitman. It's ALL he knows how to do. And for the record, he's NOT retiring after his 10th film. It's a half-sentence, he's going to retire making ONLY bounty hunter & hitman films.
The advice it’s not your job to know how but to hire people,, that’s the most damaging advice he has ever given. In order to get started you have to wear many hats to get your vision across. Unless you’re born into money or a school prodigy, it’s not going to be easy to “hire” talented people. Kinda of annoying advice to be honest
A lot of feel good advice but nothing too practical. How did he afford to move to CA when its one of the most expensive places to live in the country? How did he get the money to shoot his first film? We're talking millions of dollars. How?
Just steal from other movies
Just watch a bunch of movies from the '60s and '70s, then rip them off and call it "homage."
the greatest of all time
i fantasize about these things all day while im at work in my 9-5 -__-lmaoooo
You’re not alone, friend
Yes..but then what..what pratical steps do you take to get there? ( don't worry i'm talking to myself right now 🙂)
Take the step out, take risks. Get out of 9-5
@@samphyllobates4765 haha i love this!!!! Im quitting my job may 27! heading to nyc. might be financial suicide but YOLO!!!
GOOD for you artdoneus! Proud of you for taking the leap. You might fail for a bit but just keep taking a step towards your dreams, you'll make it eventually. One of QT's tips was getting to where people are working at a high level and NYC is one of them. Expensive city though... so hopefully you're good with that for a while. Good luck!
