The 2nd Uplands Mansion is a stunner !! Beautiful architecture and The grounds are so beautiful and As Luxurious as The Mansion itself !! Exquisite indeed . The Penthouse was absolutely not my idea of tasteful it was a little over the top and absolutely nothing like Uplands whatsoever .
Crystal Springs Uplands Alumna here! The mansion is really an amazing place. Yes we actually have classes in it, as well as school gatherings and dances in the ballroom. It still has the marble cladding in the dining room and the Italian ceiling in the ballroom. Loved my time at CSU.
I really love the mansion with it`s sense of balance and how it sits so solidly on the landscape. BUT, I really liked the dining room in the Deco apartment too. The wall treatment was very cool.
Love the history behind these fascinating mansions. Templeton Crocker had all the wealth in the world, but such a bummer he lost his mom and dad so early in life. Oftentimes I envy these mega-wealthy people from the titans of industry. Seems like they have it all. Nothing is ever as it appears. Great job on yet another, "This House."
This is really interesting. My mother knew a side of the Crocker family and grew up across them in Georgetown. She remembers how incredible they're house was. Her parents and Mr. and Mrs. Crocker frequented each others dinner parties.
Loved the Uplands house.. the deco apt was not my cup of tea.. so glad Uplands continues to be a useful and absolutely beautiful building...thanks you again
Great life sure he enjoyed everything. I am truly curious about the great yachts of the period. On the east coast the tremendously wealthy would spend their weekends on their glorious yachts.
The penthouse was largely commissioned from French architect ~ designer Jean Michel Frank , and the first time his work was seen in America . Frank formed working friendships with interior decorator Francis Elkins and furthermore her famous brother architect David Elkins. It was a glamorous giddy time for great modernists indeed.
I definitely prefer the beautiful mansion over the penthouse. Love the L-shaped drawing room. I'm glad that Mr. Polk isn't around to see brutalist architecture. Thank you, Ken.
I drive by Upland II many times. The house in Hillsborough at 1:50 is called the Western White House, and it has been on the market for more than a year. The price keeps (From $30 million to now $26 million) dropping but no one buys it.
Both residences are great, but I lean more toward the Beaux Arts house and I would choose grandfather Crocker's Second Empire house in San Francisco over that.
I have visited this place. It is now a tacky girls' school, and the beautiful grounds and gardens are parking lots. Hillsborough should prohibit educational institutions, just as it prohibits business establishments.
I view most of these mega-mansions as tributes to the self-absorbed greed of the ultra-rich. Many of these nonfunctional buildings ended up being demolished and replaced with more appropriate structures or turned into public spaces. Huge waste of valuable resources.
I've always loved the Beaux Arts style. It's superior to the cheap crap modern builders turn out these days. Modernism is on its way out - evolving to two separate branches. There's the New Beaux Arts Classical that is being re-evaluated by architects and designers; and there's the Hyper Futuristic designs coming from firms like Zaha Hadid with its seamless surfaces and groundbreaking engineering. I've grown to hate Art Deco because it's cold and ugly, and I despise Frank Lloyd Wright's work because it is as severe, unyielding and intimidating as he was.
Beaux’s arts is truly the pinnacle of architecture and in my opinion the most beautiful
I'm in love with the Beaux Arts Mansion
No contest, the mansion over the penthouse.👍

Stunning, beautiful, and breathtakingly elegant.
That is a Mansion for the Gods, stunningly beautiful and gorgeous, so epic, dramatic and imposing, Extravagant Details... ❤
Gods rather demons

My most favorite mansion yet. Stunning.
I loved seeing the gardens & reflecting pools. Thanks, Ken!

The Mansion ❤😮😍 Gorgeous
I definitely prefer the mansion "eye candy"!
100% Uplands 2 all way!!! That's what I call "living well..!!"

Definitely uplands Beaux Arts Mansion

Ken, I've caught myself saying "WHAT?" when you say, "One of the many mansions."
Another fine report. Thanks.
His Mansion!
Thank you Ken for all your research!
Each residence was beautiful! Hard to choose one, especially because I have always liked Art Deco!
The mansion in SF, and even though it had classical proportions it had many more modern clean lines. Fun report!
Loved the Uplands house.. the deco apt was not my cup of tea.. so glad Uplands continues to be a useful and absolutely beautiful building...thanks you again
So happy to see a San Francisco house!
Quite a nice building. Far from leading edge, but very elegant. Wonderful that it's still here.
Great life sure he enjoyed everything. I am truly curious about the great yachts of the period. On the east coast the tremendously wealthy would spend their weekends on their glorious yachts.
I love the landscaping of the first mansion
Loved the penthouse!
I liked the mansion , but his apartment was interesting.

No one can nor will build beauties like these mansions now.
A select few still do! Look up the work of Quinlan Terry!
They can if they want to.
I definitely prefer the beautiful mansion over the penthouse.
Love the L-shaped drawing room.
I'm glad that Mr. Polk isn't around to see brutalist architecture.
Thank you, Ken.
Wow!
The dining room marble walls were "book matched"
I'm sure you were having a temporary lapse of memory calling it "split."
I prefer the mansion.😁
Now this is my style 😎 👌

I think the mansion was my favorite. I also appreciate the Robie House. I do love Art Deco as well. So many decisions! 😎
Both residences are great, but I lean more toward the Beaux Arts house and I would choose grandfather Crocker's Second Empire house in San Francisco over that.
What address in SF wad the penthouse located?
I love his penthouse with all of the evidence of an exotic animal massacre on the floor. Too bad the room didn't make it into a museum somewhere.
Somehow $40 million doesn’t seem enough to build that house today
Crocker Bank?
Penthouse not my style
Take the words off so I can see the house that's stupid to put the words there
Disable closed captions. That is a setting you have enabled.
Howard Roarke would not like the architects view on copying the past

Very interesting take on the subject.
The most insufferable voices I have ever heard.
