Aww bless you and The Donut, am sure the boy will pull through and be fine, he showed last year that he surpassed everything put in front of him and he WILL be fine for Grass Roots . Anyway he has to go as I have got my tickets now so I can come and meet him and poundstretcher. So get him told, no grass roots no stud muffin. Sorry I cannot offer any wise old guidance as I know nottttin xx
Ahhhh he LOVES stud muffins so that is the best bribery! We’re doing everything possible to have him on track 🥰
Oh Donut, they really are so frustrating at times! Highly recommend putting him on a hoof supplement with biotin if you haven't already. It's made the world of difference to my horses
Ahh thank you, we have recently put him on biotin, literally trying to do everything possible to get him feeling great again… fingers crossed it works as well for him as it did for your horse 🤞🏻🥰
Fingers crossed for badminton donut 🤞🤞 xx
🤞🏻🥰🤞🏻
Feel so sorry for you. What a difficult situation. You seem to have a good farrier so I'm sure between the two of you he'll be right soon
Touching wood and crossing fingers for Donut.
A great farrier is invaluable.
Good morning from Australia.
Good morning! Thank you. I’m super grateful to have found a brilliant farrier.
I’ve wasted so much money on supplements for different things in the past, but one I swear by is hoof first, worked for us 🤞
Im so sorry Donut is having these issues. I had horses in endurance for many years (I was always the turtle, just wanted to enjoy the day and finish) and I don't even know how many rides I had to miss due to one crazy injury or another. Horses... so strong and yet so fragile. 😊
Yes you’re right! They’re the ultimate athletes but also super fragile. But we love them anyway! ❤️🩹
PMA! It’s quite depressing with all the rain but we will see light at the end of the tunnel! He’ll be fit in no time, just his brain to adjust to competitions again 🤯😅
Hopefully we’ll be complaining about hard ground and flies soon 😅🌞🪰💓
I have trail boots on my laminitis boy who doesn't have shoes on anymore but the wet winter has been bad for his feet. So I check his boots every 2 days to scrape out the sand and he'll wear them until the ground dries out this summer.
I love Donut. He is so gorgeous and has a great personality to boot. ❤ I feel your pain. Owning an OTTB myself, I am very aware of hoofins issues. 😂
I really hope everything gets sorted out before Bamnigton! I am excited for yours and Donut's season. 😊
He’s a cool dude isn’t he! Thank you, hopefully we’ve got time to get back on track 🤞🏻
Here's hoping for a positive outcome!! xx 🧡🧡
Loving the positivity 🥰
TAKE CARE AND all the best. ☺☺☺👍💖 GOOD luck with all you do .
What a total nightmare! Truly sorry you are having this nightmare, so so sorry for both of you. Shallow feet - a nightmare - made worse by this revolting weather, rubbish boggy ground and of course “Do Boy’s” soft soles.
Thank you so much for the detailed insight into the issue. Very interesting. I look forward to hearing your progress. Keep your chins up, stay positive. ❤️
Thank you. Hopefully we’re on to improvements now 🤞🏻🤞🏻♥️
With a chestnut TB and thin soles too I feel your pain! Good luck to you and Donut, the ground just needs to dry up now!
Ahhh they’re so sensitive aren’t they! Yes praying for some drier weather now 💚
I am a big believer that good hoof health comes from within, no matter how much we try to fix it from the outside, if it’s not growing well from the top, there will be more problems at the bottom. I have my fingers crossed for Donut, your horses are lucky to have you 🤞
I completely agree! His feet are so much better since I got him and changed his nutrition and workload! I’m hopeful that in a few years he may be less susceptible to abscesses as his immune system continues to get stronger but who knows with thoroughbred feet… we’re doing everything we can to help him out so fingers crossed 🤞🏻 x
Bless you, Evie. This must be so upsetting. Hang in there. Donut looks in great condition. Thank God you tackled a really nasty abcess. Hopefully, all the treatment will work successfully (& quickly). Sounds like you have fantastic farrier and vet. With you nursing him through this, he couldn't be in better hands.🤗
Thanks Anne! He’s looking great, just needs a bit more top line from schooling and he’ll be back to competition form. I’m lucky to have a great support team 🤞🏻♥️
so frustrating!! its a hard one what i will say from experience with thin soles although the full pads wont do so well to harden his hooves it will help him to grow sole, i like to put the keratex on the nail holes to help the shoes stay on, all the best!!
Yes that’s what my farrier said, it’s such a fine balance with their feet! X
Oh the ups and downs of horses, please try and stay positive, crossing everything for hard hooves, good fitness and Badminton xx
Oh dear poor Donut, fingers crossed he’ll come right now you have a good farrier big 🤗 sweet girl tfs🤗🏇🤗
Thank you! I’m sure he will, it just takes time ♥️
Hopefully his feet will get harder soon (and the weather better)! As soon as it's all good you will be feeling better..... It really gets us when something happen to our horses, dosn't it...... ❤❤
Wood pellet or shredded cardboard bedding is like magic for drying out feet, far superior to shavings or straw of any kind. Speaking from experience!
Funny you say that as we picked up some wood pellets when we bought the keratex to help dry his feet! It doesn’t help that he’s quite wet and grubby in the stable so I’ve worked really hard to have it as dry as possible while he’s in 🤞🏻🤍
@@ELSEventing make the bed at least four inches deep so that it doesn't move and cover the while floor. It will seem a lot to start with but you will find a messy horse stays cleaner as the bed doesn't move and keeps the wet together good luck!
Just an idea - what Ive done with mine, just in the short term, could you keep the shoes off so you can keep up the keratex & then boot to ride? My lad has similar shape feet & is on scoot boots. Obviously you'll have full sole protection when you ride then. Fingers crossed for you!! Xx
Ah good idea thank you, I’ll see how it goes and keep that in mind as a possible route! X
@@ELSEventing I've had really great luck with Keratex - I often see a huge improvement in under a week! I hope it helps Donut as quickly!
Have you tried leaving his shoes off but using hoof boots when out to keep his foot drier
My tb is older now (18) and he started having intermittent lameness. Turns out he has a collapsed heel so he has a pad on. But our farrier said to take the pad off in the winter so that the hoof isn’t moist under the pad. So that’s what we’ve done and he’s been sound since.
Just to add tho he isn’t jumping anything more than 70cm due to an old hock injury. So certainly not at the same level as Donut.
Yes, my farrier has said we’ll change the pads next winter now we know he’s susceptible to his soles thinning in winter. It’s such a fine art managing TB feet x
Fingers crossed you can get properly started again soon! I had the exact same problem with my old OTTB.... It was a long process but with a good farrier we eventually got him completely barefoot, sound and happy. I'm sure you'll find something that works do Donut, sounds like your farrier has done brilliant already. Xx
Fingers crossed for you and donut, have you thought about leaving his front shoes off and using hoof boots? That way you can still take him out with full protection but also get to his sole to treat it. Best of luck 🤞 ❤
Have you tried Biotin? I have a horse with the same problem, my farrier suggested putting him on Biotin and it has made so much difference. It does take a while for it to work but definitely worth it.
Donut is my favourite 😍
He’s so loveable ❤️
Don't overthink things what will be will be. I hope he comes better for you soon xx
🙏💜💜💜🙏🦄
Just wondering how The Donut is doing? 🙏🏻
Hey! I think I’m going to do a weekly diary on him to keep you guys updated on his progress. So far so good, he’s been back in work since Tuesday 🤞🏻🥰 xx
OH dear your coping ok , but i think your getting to the end of a tether , NUT YOU have people toSUPPORT you.!!
Ahhh I love this thank you 🤩♥️
Oh no, so sorry. We have the same horse as I have an intermittently lame chesnut ottb with 2 different feet and soles so thin coffin may as well be on the ground. He won't keep a right shoe on. We went to pour in pads and now easycare glue on shoes and made all the difference!!! Good luck to both of us. 😅 love Donut, you've got this!
Ahhh well done! It’s such a fine art keeping tb’s feet right when they don’t have great conformation. Finger crossed this sorts it 🤞🏻
