  • In "A Picture Can't Take Me," Cibelle Cavalli Bastos writes a poem about the impossibility of capturing subjectivity in a portrait, then passes it to GPT2, an AI pre-trained language model, to complete it for them. Both the images in the video and the still image are the output of generative portraiture using StyleGAN2. The data set consisted of Google search pictures of Cibelle Cavalli Bastos, who was known as a cis woman singer, and selfies taken while transitioning to non-binary and ageing from a personal archive spanning 20 years and their Instagram (@aevtarperform).

I'm feeling myself as no other
no other self not myself either
    a picture can´t take me
    I can take a picture
but neither would ever carry me
for this is nothing but my vessel
that is impermanent and subject to light
    particles and thought
    subject to your gaze
    your perception of my gaze
The story will be that you see the light of light in my eyes
that the light of light in my eyes and that the light of light in my eyes is the one which is out of the picture
that you see the light of light in my eyes and that the light of light in my eyes is the one which is out of the picture
I´m feeling myself as no other
