Please tell me you’re actually talking about the balls of fury movie with Dan fogler and Christopher walken
Is it better or worst then Lightyear?
I had not heard of this movie!
I didn't even know this film existed until I saw the trailer for it at a screening of Sonic The Hedgehog 2. I honestly thought it looked like an obscure animated movie that Saberspark would review on his channel. I imagine the vid would be called "What the HELL is Paws of Fury"
Give it a few years
@@fever1801 Or maybe even just a few months.
Same. Peace ✌🏻
Saberspark will review this, he has mentioned it in his movie predictions videos of 2021 and 2022
The same actually happened to me
I will bet that samual jackson has over 200 recordings of him accidentally saying the f*ck instead of what he was supposed to say
Was just thinking that. And I want to see those outtakes.
The fact this actually got released after 5 years of being in production is unbelievable
10 actually.
It’s wild how this was in production hell and now after years is suddenly just dropped.
Gotta wonder what production was like
I’m still fascinated as to why this was a trailer before Top Gun: Maverick at my local theater…
You think that’s weird, I got League Of Super Pets before Everything Everywhere All At Once
That's nothing, I got the Gravity trailer before Planes in 2013
@@evanthecinemaguy9902 Trailers for kids' movies before adult movies kinda make sense, lots of the adults watching Top Gun are also parents. The inverse is really weird, though...
I had paws of fury before bullet train
I got Paws of Fury before Elvis, which I definitely found strange. I mean, Elvis wasn’t a movie exclusively for adults, but I don’t think lots of young children were lining up to see it.
I remember hearing about this movie all the way back in 2017. It was called ‘Blazing Samurai’ and it was stuck in development hell for such a long time I just assumed it would never come out
I remember hearing about it from rebeltaxi.
I'm surprised they didn't just keep the same title.
Huh I guess that basically confirms it’s a blazing saddles remake for kids.
I wish they kept the original title.
It really seems like those kind of movies never end up working, at least not quite right.
The Irishman is probably the only of those worth watching, since it's still basically what was planned, while others change over time in order to make it work, like Cry Macho which originally had Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead
When Doug called Blazing Saddles a "Hard R" comedy I didn't think he was talking about the rating lmao
well we are talking about a movie that used the n word a lot, i don't think the south park movie was even allow to say that hell they created controversy for saying that word on TV
Tfw we're still doing the "Lion King ripped off Kimba" bit in 2022
Yeah at this point it is ignorant
At least we can point to YMS video.
YMS: Ignorance is bliss, I guess.
I remembered Brooks talking about how they were working on an animated Blazing Saddles maybe like 7 years ago. Then nothing for years until this trailer popped up with Sonic 2 and I was literally startled to see what it turned into. I feel like there was some production problems behind the scenes and maybe some give and take on how far they wanted to push it or water it down for kids.
I knew about this movie for MONTHS. Back when it was called “Blazing Samurai”. I’ve been hyping it up forever! And now I highly yet patiently anticipate a Nostalgia Critic review.
I vaguely remember seeing the Blazing Samurai advertisement but I’m curious why they changed the name.
I’m guessing it might’ve been a licensing issue, but it maybe not?
Mel Brooks was a credited writer on this movie, so it's safe to say that that the 1 out of 4 writers that was doing a good job was probably him.
I can appreciate how much Nickelodeon likes to challenge themselves with the art direction for their films. This is as colorful and vibrant as Rango is dirty and realistic. Even the SpongeBob movies try to incorporate some visually pleasing sequences for the big screen
To paraphrase Ron Swanson, "That was a movie that existed."
It made my daughter laugh, a lot, and was totally watchable for me. 3/4.
It's just Blazing Saddles. There's nothing wrong with that. It's quite good.
Unlike apparently everyone else in the comments here, I didn't know about this movie until like a month ago, and saw maybe one ad and a few movie posters. So I went in blind, and yeah, the Blazing Saddles homage is so strong, I picked up on it 15 minutes in (and, criminally, I don't think I've ever seen Blazing Saddles all the way through).
Criminally indeed. Blazing Saddles deserves your watchtime more
Fun fact: This movie originally called, Blazing Samurai, but they've changed the title for some reason and it took 10 years to make.
All the writers from Blazing Saddles are credited in this movie. Mel Brooks is extremely happy with it.
Definitely watch blazing saddles.
"A dog sheriff?"
"What? It worked in Paws of Fury."
Agreeable chatter amongst the townsfolk.
I cannot believe it finally came out. It’s been in development hell for so long and is such a ludicrous idea
Fun fact: the movie was actually gonna be called “Blazing Samurai” so clearly you can tell that this film is trying to be a blazing saddles film
It was also going to be animated by having freelance animators animate with the chance they may get their name in the credits. Watch Pan Pizza's video on it.
@@psychonaut1502 that’s interesting🤔
Fun fact: samurai times in the wild west actually overlapped for a few decades
I love that you have an image of Hong Kong Phooey behind you there, because that's immediately what my friend and I thought this was going to be when the trailer started. Like an origin for the character or something. But no, disappointment followed. Not sure if Hong Kong Phooey would be considered in bad taste today or not, but I did love watching the cartoon growing up.
That “emergency tweet” joke sounds hilarious, that’s just as clever as the gun joke
And also “super bowl?” Come on that’s freaking funny!!
A blazing saddles remake? Now I’m actually interested in this movie just to see how they get away with it. It does explain the farting scene in the trailer.
Just like the campground lol. I'm surprised it didn't click for me that the sumo was basically Mongo.
It's funny because Mel Brooks once said he wouldn't do a blazing saddles remake because it would be too offensive for our current society.
They got around the racism issue by having cats that are racist against dogs, as far as I see.
@@shadowspider9true
Why would I watch a kid-friendly remake when I can watch the original?
At first, Doug's poster choice made me believe it would be a kid-friendly remake of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", but Rango already did it. Then I thought it was a knock-off of Kung-Fu Panda, until Doug clarified, it remade Blazing Saddles. A movie I thought could not be made again.
It could be remade. Just not better.
Rango is nothing like Dear and Loathing. It has some homages just by virtue of Johnny Depp being in both, but that's it. Fear and Loathing is about a couple of guys going on a drug bender in Vegas, Rango is not.
I did actually know this for a while; this was in development hell for a long while and was originally going to be called 'Blazing Samurai'.
I legit thought it was a Kung Fu Panda Ripoff, I'll be honest. Interesting to see that it is a remake of something else entirely
When people said blazing saddles couldn't be made in 2022, this movie proved you could do it granted There's a lot of kids censorship. But still that's impressive
You know that joke that goes "You couldn't make _Blazing Saddles_ today, because if you tried everyone would say 'Hey, someone already made this movie, it's called Blazing Saddles!' and then you'd get sued by Mel Brooks"?
I forget what comedian that said that, but since this movie got announced a while back its been stuck in my head.
*sees Doug in thumbnail*
Yeah. About what I expected.
Same💯💯💯
This film was originally meant to be called “Blazing Samurai”.
Doug is one of the best movie reviewer on UA-cam. Exposition of movies are always very analitic and interesting,. Almost every time Doug score a true meaning of film and match with my taste. He should do more videos like this.
💯💯💯💯. He’s awesome
except when he reviews something like venom and shows he has no idea what he's talking about
@kdawg1991 🔥💯💯
@@MoojinBoi Or maybe he does and the movie is just bad.
@@chasehedges6775 nope, he doesn't know anything about venom, and his review of it reflects it
I like how you give your view of the movie and give details in your style on why you feel the way you do about the film.
This movie somehow feels like a mix between Kung Fu Panda, Karate Kid, and Hong Kong Phooey
0:37
I'm glad SOMBODY mentioned Samurai Pizza Cats for once!!
I got that reference!
This is the second film that took an adult story and made it family friendly. The first being The Bad Guys.
The Bad Guys was based on a children's book series, though.
okey bad guys get a pass because you can take those adult element and still make them cool for the kids, kinda like the x-men or batman. Here you really need the political incorrect jokes, because that what made the original movie so special, its kinda like removing the gore from the evil dead movies its a big identidy for the series, or you know a pg-13 mortal kombat
The bad guys was from a book for 2nd graders
5:12 Whatever they paid Samuel Jackson to do this wasn't nearly enough.
The idea of a *Blazing Saddles* remake is bad enough... when it's aimed at little kids and done with direct-to-streaming-level animation...
I always find it weird that anthro animals are riding non anthro animals. Then you have something like Cowboys of Moo Mesa where you have both anthro and non anthro horses and cows interacting with each other.
I’d say that I was more surprised to learn that’s Brooks actually wrote on the script for this movie. So, it’s not just a remake of a Brooks movies but it is itself a Mel Brooks Movie. I want to say that the one good writer in the room was Brooks but I think his particular sense of humor also lends itself to a lot of the bad jokes too.
Yeah, I think I’ll stick with legally blonde(there’s a community theatre production a few towns over) and senior pictures as my only outing this weekend
I actually really enjoyed this one (and yes, I'm 48, I remember Blazing Saddles). It's not a big classic or anything that you're going to rewatch a dozen times. It's not the original Blazing Saddles, yes. Change your expectations. Turn your brain off, don't compare it to the original, get a bowl of popcorn and enjoy the ride. The voice actors do an amazing job, the humor is light-hearted and as noted the jokes come quick enough so if one doesn't land another will be along soon enough.
When you review Lightyear for your Disneycember I think you should review it in two ways the first as a Pixar movie and the other as a Blockbuster movie just saying
That cat joke was actually pretty great
I saw this with a buddy and it wasn’t until it was over that he mentioned that it was a kid-friendly blazing saddles. I totally missed that 😂
But still we had some good laughs and it was fairly enjoyable. Ricky Gervais was one of the better performances btw
Why haven't you done a review for Minions: Rise of Gru yet Doug? They wouldn't let you wear your N.C suit in the theater?
Yah, can you review it please?
Fun Fact: when the movie was first announced the original title was actually "Blazing Samurai" so I find rather ironic that you say this is based off another movie called "Blazing Saddles".
I came across this on Behind the Voice Actors the first time and it was just called "Blazing Samurai". Took one look at the page, wondered what had become of one of my all-time favorite comedic directors, and can only laugh as more people discovered it before it actually became a thing.
Me: Why is he reviewing Paws of Fury?
Doug Walker: This is a remake of “Blazing Saddles”!
Me: …Continue
Nickelodeon had no involvement in the original making of the movie, Paramount only acquired the distribution rights film from GFM animation. It was supposed to be released under Paramount Animation but then they were like no we're just gonna slap the Nickelodeon banner on there
This new Hong Kong Phooey adaptation is great!
I saw a Saturday night show. Couple little kids. When the credits started rolling, they all walked out of the theater bored save for ONE.
Lion king didn't steal from kimba. They do have some similar things, but that's been a bad rumor that's not true.
Only OGs remember when the movie was called Blazing Samurai.
I have to say, the whole recruiting of the bad cats scene was hilarious!
I was not expecting a Nazi submarine xD
"Up yours, ninja!" is a quote I never knew I needed, until I had it.
Calling Blazing Saddles a "hard R comedy" is brilliant 🤣
I like how you put Hong Kong phooey in the background.
From what I’ve seen- it’s clearly not taking itself seriously.
Maybe if it wasn’t too silly we could have gotten something interesting! But obviously- it didn’t, so it’s basically just a goofy remake of Blazing Saddles- er- Sandals 🗿
Looks like nickelodeon movies can't make good movies anymore.
My kids saw the new minions and one saw this AND Rise of Gru. She voted this superior. My other kid agreed afterwards. It was cute, and we had no idea it was a parody(of a parody...) either going in. It is quite fun if you have kids.
If 1/4 jokes are actually good then it still had a better ratio than Love and Thunder
I’d say this review show should be called, “What Did Doug Just Watch?”
I actually did know going in but that did not help it. I remember the original title was actually Blazing Samurai. It frankly shows how good the jokes in Blazing Saddles are because they repeat a lot of the classics but they are nowhere near as funny or memorable, and I think the reason for that is because it's a kids film it can't push the envelope. There were a decent amount of kids in screening and it didn't have nearly as many laughs. And I saw a flashback screening of Blazing Saddles a couple years back and the whole theater was dying with laughter, and there were parent who brought their kids to see it and they loved it
A Blazing Saddles remake… with the Producers and Young Frankenstein being remade as musicals, I’ve wondered how my favorite Mel Brooks movie would be reimagined, but NEVER would I have guessed it would be like this
I heard rumors of a kid friendly Blazing Saddles...didn't know they actually did it
I'm always seeing trailers for strange animated movies with celebrity voice cast that usually turn out bad so I'm overjoyed to see something good come out.
I remember first seeing this trailer when I went to see sonic 2. Your thumbnail sums up my reaction to those painfully long few minutes.
Anyone else remember when they showed BLAZING SADDLES on TV, and they'd edit the bean scene so you heard the horses neighing loudly instead of fart sounds?
Legit thought when I saw this in the trailers that this was a Hong Kong Fooie movie.
Now I know it was one, but directed by Mel Brooks.
The 4th Wall Jokes were PERFECT
The blazing saddles fart joke was funny because Brooks said he wanted to let out every fart cowboys didn’t let out when they were eating beans in other westerns.
Also, I believe it was the first fart joke in movie history. The humor came from the fact that something this off-color had literally never been done before. Nothing can top that now. Fart jokes are everywhere now; they're expected. They're tired. You can't just do it again and get the same kind of laugh.
I had to watch this for work. In the earlier cut it was called "Blazing Samurai" and there was a joke that directly referenced the old title. I thought that Micheal Cera's voice wasn't right for animation. A lot of what works with him is just being awkward and Micheal Cera. Samuel L Jackson basically holds the film together. This movie took a decade to make, it felt like it was written a decade ago... by people who probably had a more stable writing career two decades before that.
I agree. Thankfully we saw it for only $5. Wasn’t worth that tbh.
I can't wait to see Nickelodeon do their remake of Pootie Tang.
Noticed you have never covered "my name is nobody" its a bit older, but to me and my circle, timeless. So good that any western makes me think of it.
I just assumed it was a Hong Kong Fuey reboot movie, but they couldn't get the rights, so went with a new character.
Never would have thought it was Blazing Saddles.
Given that Blazing Saddles is one of my all time favorite comedies and I went in with no clue that this was a remake...
The worst part of the film is easily Hank himself. Unlike the protag of the original film, Hank has very little time to endear himself to the audience outside of his exposition dump of a flashback, then immediately begins being a massive jackass.
For example, Hank doesn't use his wits, like Bart did, to defeat Mongo. Instead it's straight up shown to him that "Sumo" is allergic to Edamame beans, yet doesn't ever think to use them, instead repeatedly trying to overpower the giant, despite the main lesson he's been hammered with being to use his brain to overcome a strength/size disadvantage and his mentor straight up telling him to use the beans.
He then lets tripping the beast after he was already stumbling and about to fall get to his head and goes out for a night on the town with the villain, after saying terrible things to his mentor. Thus by the time the film starts ramping up the action over character development, he's become so unlikeable that it's impossible to root for him.
Ok, but isn't it kinda weird hank has the same name as my dog, and literally has the same exact colors in the same spots?
Blazing Saddles?! That is freaking awesome! 😂 Fantastic that Mel Brooks has a cameo! ❤️
Doug: This is a remake of Blazing Saddles.
Me: Wait, WHAT?!
I'm still amazed this film ever came out like it was supposed to be out in like 2015 or something but caught in development hell for ages then dropped out of nowhere
1:59
-What did she said?
-The sheriff is Near!
My husband realized this was the Blazing Saddles remake like 2 minutes in. I would have never known lol. Good movie though!
The big cat on the little horse made me think only one thing
Someone on this team played Elden Ring
Just a reminder... Blazing Saddles borrowed from/parodied several classic Westerns, including The Magnificent Seven, which was a remake of Seven Samurai, and Japanese Samurai movies borrowed from American Westerns from the classic Hollywood era.... etc, etc
I’ve heard about this one. It was in production hell for sometime.
Me too
3:27 I was surprised when the sumo cat punched the horse. My sister’s friend said out loud “animal abuse!”
There's a reason the original name is Blazing Samurai
Samurai films already took from westerns. Akira Kurosawa was heavily influenced by John Ford, and Kurosawa then influenced Sergio Leone as well as American directors. So really, it’s a ping pong game of influence, each influencing the other.
even by today i have no idea why there isn't a crossover or at least a team up movie about a cowboy and a samurai
The movie was originally called "Blazing Samurai".
I'm trying to remember when I first saw Blazing Saddles, I think it might have been as early as middle school?
I remember being very off-put by the uh... Language, but at the same time I laughed my ass off throughout it.
I don't think it was until high school I watched it again after finding out it was meant to be jarring with the language,
it made me look at it different and honestly in a better light, for sure a classic that needs to be talked about more.
I finally saw this film today and for me, it's a hit or miss for a week. Eventually you'll remember it and don't care. I went with family to watch this film because in the Spanish channels would air this in commercials. We all had a good few laughs and a lot of kids(from the theater) laughed too.
It looks like one of those direct to video movies you see from a local bargin bin.
This movie was originally called "Blazing Samurai". Its also been in production since like, what 2005?
This is a very minor detail, I know. But there is quite the detailed video from the youtuber yourmoviesucks explaining that Lion King likely did not steal from Kimba. If you are interested in the topic, you should check it out.
I genuinely enjoyed this movie because of the amount of fourth wall humor and references to mel brooks
The movie’s original title is blazing samarai. It was supposed to come out years ago
After Demoreel...best to play it safe with untitled reviewed show lol
I’m trying so hard to pay attention but Nicolas Cage’s creepy smile is stealing my soul
I knew it was a Blazing Saddles remake.
I also knew getting it made was pure hell.
Samurai films already took from Westerns, Yojimbo in particular took from a novel called Red Harvest.
Fun drinking game! Take a shot for every reference you see to Blazing Saddles!
Your liver will hate you!
Rob Minkoff. Considering his career I believe someone just credited him as The Lion King co-director just to promote this guy
