Just a few thoughts: - I was expecting some Secret Power action, as the 30% Paralysis/Flinch can come pretty clutch. - For Maxie's Crobat, I *think* that Counter + Sitrus Berry could have saved you a lot of Rare Candies, as Counter should be a guaranteed OHKO after an Air Cutter, and the berry should give Breloom enough HP left over to tank a hit from the following Camerupt. - When the AI is doing the whole "take damage -> Full Restore" cycle (like against Juan's Gyarados), wouldn't it be a bit faster to use a boosting move (Bulk Up in this case) for the OHKO on the following turn instead of burning through all 4 items? Either way, great vid! Breloom is such a cool 'mon!
Right? Could have one shot Gyarados after the heal and would have one shot skarmory and then Metagross in the Steven fight after effect spore. I've been watching Scott for a long time, it's amazing how much dedication he puts in and how much he has improved but there's always a blindspot. A knack for detail and a knack for missing the obvious 😅
Secret power + attract = not attacking about 65% of the time... Secret power + attract + stun spore = not attacking about 72% of the time, plus always outspeeding. Something like leftovers + bulk up could have good success there.
For those that are curious, the reason Scott is making videos so far in advance is because it provides a buffer against things that can go wrong. If he or one of his staff gets sick, needs time off, or there is an otherwise need for a break, there's plenty of time to catch up while making sure the video releases are consistent. Making consistent videos is important on UA-cam because it keeps your channel favorable in the algorithm. So basically, having videos ready so far in advance is a matter of financial security for him and his staff, as well as other people who use UA-cam to make money.
I never enjoyed fighting types as a kid for some reason. Breloom was the exception and I have always had a soft spot for Breloom because of that. Awesome video Scott

Breloom feels like the little grass guy who could. I deeply appreciated his return in generation 5 on Elite 4's 2nd run. He's honestly a real threat and I love it.
Bulk up in gen 3 has extremely limited distribution, with mostly fighting types and your random groudon or grambulll getting it. This is why it is in reality, far less broken than curse.
To be fair, Curse is pretty meh outside of Snorlax and other Curse abusers because in later Gens, competitive games are very fast pace compare to Gen 2.

Nice! Can’t wait to see how Breloom does! It’s my second favorite Gen 3 pokemon and has remained a consistent powerhouse throughout the generations! It’s only too bad it won’t get spore here, but other than that, I think it’ll end up doing very well with its strong attack and access to mach punch. It’ll probably struggle against Winona and Tate and Liza though, so we’ll have to see how things work out there.
Something I recommend doing with Pokémon that can set up is using that move when the opponent heals. It would certainly help to speed fights up, and I think it would help you win against Steven the first time.
HYPE!!! Normally I just listen to these at work. But Breloom is my favorite Pokémon!!! So I’m saving it for when I can sit and watch the whole thing 🙏🏻
Nice to see Breloom, favorite grass type in gen 3 (Tropious, a.k.a banana beard being the second). Breloom's typing is very interesting, and it has very good physical stats. It really feels like a physical tank with coverage.
I’m a huge Breloom fan, so I’m very happy you did a Breloom solo! I do think with the Maxie fight with Crobat, you could have set up Bulk Up vs Mightyena (maybe with held Persim Berry) to take an Air Cutter and also OHKO the bat. Also just a general tip: if you have a setup move and you’re in a situation where you’re not fully set up and the foe is healing, you can set up a bit more to save on PP and time so that you finish it off afterwards. Other than little things like that, I’m happy with how well you did with Breloom!
Great video! So glad to see Breloom getting some love. On a different note, I really feel like a jolly nature would have helped you more, even more so than an adamant nature - imo, you don't need the extra atk. The extra speed would have helped you vs. the poison bats a lot
Really happy you did a run with Breloom, it's one of my favorites, also loved the comparison with Poliwrath, those two are kinda similar in a way, I remembered false swipe gaming saying that Poli is like a poor man's Breloom 😂
I know I complain bout this a lot, but it still hurts to see Swampert at the bottom of the tier list. Scott has more experience with the game now, so I think Swampert deserves another chance. Besides, I think in the Swampert run it started as a Mudkip? Which ofc made the early game harder. It literally only struggled against the grass types, Norman (because Scott didn't really know how to properly apply dig to evade the Slaking's attacks, I think? Dig is literally the go to move most people use against Slaking to toy with the truant turns, Scott just didn't know how to do that very well). Like, Swampert gets stab with dig, access to the soft sand from the girl at the beach, and an attack boost from Roxane's badge. Dig should be enough for Norman. And Tate/Liza, which I think he could easily beat with Surf+mystic water+ rain dance+ getting Swampert to torrent range activating its ability. Swampert is at least a B tier pokemon, I'll never get tired of saying this: give it another chance 😢.
I'm a fan of Swampert too. Scott has gotten soooo much better at pokemon and being a poketuber that all his early challenges would get way better results today.
He's already said that he's going to be redoing all of the gen 3 pokemon he's done so far because he'll be able to apply the knowledge and skill he's gained over the year+ since he started doing Emerald runs. Swampert, and all of the others, will be getting a second run. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but eventually.

Very cool run! I think one thing worth considering when you're in situations of npc healing right after you knock them down to the red, you should be trying to punish there with set up moves. For example with Steven's skarmory, when it's gonna get healed you could have set up a bulk up and one shot it and had at least better ranges in the first try
Have you thought about applying a log scale to your growth rate chart y axis? It would make the graph way more readable and would show how experience gains scale with level as well. It is way more clear than the chart used previously though!

I don't think it's just Breloom. Fighting in general is probably one of the most improved types as the generations go on. It was mostly only ever held back in prior generations due to the combination of poor STAB options and the overwhelming dominance of psychic types.

Yes, technically Psych lost its dominance starting in gen-2, but more so in competitive PVP. However, the lack of NPCs with steel or dark types means psychic remained pretty dominant in gen-2 PVE, which is what Scott plays.
@@robloxplays4322 Gen 5 is pretty much where Pokémon peaked in general, you had just about everything for every typing aside from physical Ghost types who only got a usable STAB move in Gen 8's DLC and Special Rock types who up to this day only have Power Gem (guess Special Dark also sucks since it has 4 moves and one is exclusive to Zoroark and the other for G-Moltres but Dark Pulse is very widespread), which is honestly absurd considering Pokémon has mostly been catering to competitive play
I still think you should have two tier lists. One until the Elite Four and one at the end of Steven. Steven just makes it way too lop-sided. If one pokemon does well throughout the entire game but then struggles with Steven, it will just end up looking a lot worse, because of that one trainer who isn‘t even necessary for the credits to roll… Just my personal opinion. Your videos are awesome either way! Keep up the good work!
This game would be an absolute breeze if Breloom learned sleep powder like I thought it did. If you ever do a repeat playthrough I think that against the aqua/magma leaders you'll have an easy time of it if you use a confusion cure berry (persim?) and let them give you +2 through swagger. Or just set up against the Mightyena. Not much of roar + crunch + take down + swagger should scare you (if you have the right berry). Great video as always!

Shroomish evolving into Breloom was probably the most surprising Badass Reveal in Gen 3. That the frumpy grumpy little -mildew stain- Lichen pokemon would one day evolve into a crazy boxing kangaroo mushroom was both delightful and unexpected .

Ahhhh the drake fight was frustrating to watch! 1 bulk up + sky uppercut was probably enough to take out shelgon, and you could've probably set up a 2nd and/or 3rd bulk ups on the flygon and altaria if your speed wasnt dropped
The opening bell has rung for the fighting mushroom dinosaur. I never really used a Breloom myself but it's always been one of those Pokémon I've associated with my younger brother, with it being part of one of his first Pokémon teams. 1:47 - A bit ironic that Attract is considered a viable option against a Steel specialist, the type with the most Genderless Pokémon within their group. 2:24 - Oh, an Sludge Bomb is physical in this gen. It won't be any good against Steven but a power poisoning move like it would be a good alternative to the Fighting type attacks Breloom will mostly be using. 5:50 - Man, Mega Drain already, an just before Roxanne. What fantastic timing. 9:16 - I've never understood why a lot of the Pokémon who learn these priority moves are already fast Pokémon. I mean, I suppose it fits thematically but it's not like they need them usually. Given Breloom's speed is more average at best, Mach Punch actually feels like a great fit. 13:09 - Aww, man; the strategy was solid but you were just one or two Bulk Up's short. Rather hilarious that your Grass/Fighting type so far has been relying primarily on a Silk Scarf boosted Headbutt. 16:21 - Pelipper is listed as the Water Bird Pokémon but I'm pretty sure it's classification is supposed to be the troll Pokémon. These things are a right nuisance to fight against. Cool to see your Breloom's Effect Spore finally come into play. 18:06 - Uhhh, true; could be useful against Wallace's Ludicolo though and it does hit neutral damage against Flying types such as the flying dragons of Drake's. I'm curious to see how that battle is going to play out now as I expected Sludge Bomb to be the answer for him. 21:26 - The joyful quirkiness of Ghost being physical back then is always fun to see it being properly utilised. I think another aspect of Ghost being physical back then is that it feels like it was intended to be a counter specifically for Psychic types, whom don't often have much Defence. 22:28 - Let's be honest, it struggled against Crobat. Flying/Poison is designed too well to counter Breloom. Bug/Flying would also be an issue but you don't encounter any as high level or high stat as the villain team leader's with Crobats. 26:09 - Rather hilarious that a 40 attack power move handed out as a TM by the first Gym Leader is what is proving to be the obstacle here. An I guess the solution to Drake was Return instead of Sludge Bomb. I suppose a 30% chance to Poison doesn't mean much when you're hoping to one-shot your opponents. 29:28 - "I'm going to take less damage from the Skarmory" you say as your health bar disappears. Things have been going super well for Breloom, but given the additional 8 minutes of the video... I expect here is going to be the roadblock. 30:42 - Amarldo with big pointy ears is hilarious to picture. Also, congrats to the new Venomoth. I look forward to see the type confused Amarldo challenge in the future. 34:26 - Rather cool that the final battle is a duel between plants. An holy heck; Attract was useful against the Steel specialist.
I would recommend you look into adding Substitute to pokemon with a setup move. It would have really helped here on a set like Attract, Bulk up, Substitute, Brick Break with leftovers. By keeping a substitute up, you can fish for attract turns and use those to setup bulk up. You need leftovers to buy you a 5th substitute, or if you are lucky enough, even a 6th. It would also have helped against Drake because if you use substitute, the speed drop from rock tomb doesn't hit and also, if your substitute survives, the intimidate is ignored. Iirc, it is available at the top of the lilycove mart so you'll have to defeat the rival there to get access.
I completely get what you mean about Fighting types looking too human usually and Breloom being a nice exception. Heracross is my favourite Fighting type for the same reasons, followed by Breloom and then Toxicroak. It's just a cute beetle friend instead of a weird-looking person with a hat/belt/gloves.
Breloom had an insane glow up in gen 5 with its hidden ability technichan and the physical/special split, which allowed it to spam mach punches and bullet seeds with insane power (also spore)
so i'm curious, because i've never really considered the steven fight in emerald part of the "required" story path and probably would've left it out of runs like this in a way i wouldn't've with red. so i know it's a ways off and i doubt you've thought about it yet, but if you work your way up to playing gen 5, would you want to include the e4 rematch and alder fight (bw) or cynthia fight (b2w2) in the run the way you do steven? or leave them out/do them as a bonus like with oak and mewtwo in yellow?
So about brelooms learning quirk you mentioned it learns headbutt at 22 because Shroomish should have it before it evolves then mach punch is the move it attempts to learn on evolution
Can you add the time they beat the champion into the metrics at the end? It would be good to show when a Pokémon beats the game quickly but struggles with Steven
Before watching: I love Breloom! It‘s an example of a really well-balanced pokemon! Substitute, leech seed and Poison Heal with Toxic orb make it surprisingly durable, Spores is really great to then set-up with SwordsDance. And it has great offensive attacks from its physical side! At least that‘s what I love about it in Gen4… Gen3 is not nearly as great yet! Grass is all physical, no Spores, no Swords Dance, no Poison Heal… suddenly there is a limit of how much it can actually do. The Elite 5 has a lot of weaknesses against fighting. The Psychic gym is mostly weak to Grass too. Biggest issue will be the flying gym (4-times weakness) and the Drake in the Elite Four, I think. But Facade from such a high attack stat will still make it reasonably doable. The scariest threat will be Skarmory. Overall, I think Breloom will glide through most of the game and then get stopped by a handful of very, very specific threats. I‘d say mid-tier. After watching: Lol. Forgot Hidden Power. Forgot Bulk Up. Forgot Flanery. Forgot Crowbat. Obviously my prediction was quite off. Although, I was correct with thinking that Breloom generally will do well, aside from a few grave road blocks. Breloom did a lot better than I thought. High power AND Bulk Up is just insane!
Breloom is a Pokémon that will shave a bunch of time easily with a "battle-tested Scott" Like you said at the end, Adamant will keep a better defense, Grass moves were only relevant against the early Rock foes Honestly, his only major weakness is the 4x Flying (Aerial Ace is a hell of a move) and Sky Uppercut being too weak for a non-100% accurate move (albeit Brick Break is not far behind and can even outsmart some foes if they try to bring Reflect) Unreleated, but a delayed Shroomish can learn Spore to pass to Breloom... Makes me wonder how a run that you start with Shroomish would fare Fun Fact: in Gen9 Breloom finally got Close Combat, his best stabs were Seed Bomb and Superpower for quite some time
It is I! I come bearing comments, learning and general encouragement. I'm typing this as I watch the video, and the first thing I have noticed is that you are under-valuing Leech. You seemed adamant on just clicking grass damage, which is fine, but I think you actually made the choice with a slower time. Leech Seed deals damage over time, which allows you not only stay topped up in difficult battles (I would be considering it against Steven, even as you're at Brawly as I type this), but that extra little bit of damage can be enough to bring something down from a 3HKO to a 2HKO. Nosepass was a good example of this, as Leech Seed into Bullet Seed into Leech Seed would very likely have KO'd her ace while dodging the potion turns. You played a little risky against Maxie at Mt Chimney - you know Mightena absolutely can't KO you, even with a crit, so you can set up a Bulk Up turn 1 and cancel out the Intimidate, which confirms the KO on every member of his team. You were at -1, so failing to KO Camerupt opens you to damage from Ember, while failing to KO Zubat risks a reset from either being confused and hitting yourself, or eating a Wing Attack to the face. You did a similar thing against Norman's Slaking. Bulk Up on its turn 1 and 2 would still avoid Counter, but also make you more resilient into its damage, guaranteeing you survive to 1HKO with Sky Uppercut later. Coming back to the above point now, you're at Maxie again and didn't set up against Mightyena, and you got punished by getting 1HKO'd by Crobat. You're going for an immediate KO but it costs you resets and time. Exploiting opportunities to set up is slow now, but faster in the long run. It should not have cost you 7 Rare Candies here. Leech Seed + Bulk Up would allow you to fully set up to +6 and use a normal-type move to take out Crobat. Remember - flying type moves are physical, so Bulk Up can help you overcome to type up with raw stats. You went on to make the same mistake a 3rd time against Archie after taking care of Tate&Liza. I think you would really benefit from improving your ability to recognize set-up opportunities to guarantee a sweep, rather than jeopardize it by going for the immediate "free" KO right in front of you. ---- Now, I see you struggling with Steven, so I'm going to delve into some more advanced theory, based in my competitive background. I think there's a set you overlooked which would have made a large difference in this battle. First thing of note is that you, the player, have a massive stat advantage over that of trainers. You get EVs and they don't. This means that your Pokemon are going to be much, much bulkier than anything the game throws at you. This makes setting up and general bulk a lot more valuable to you than it is to the AI. Now, this has a cascade effect as the bulkier you are, the better healing becomes as bulk and healing both combine to increase your bulk exponentially. Gaining stats through levels works the same way. You're gaining HP and defenses at the same time, so not only is your upfront HP pool much larger over time, but each hit deals less damage to you anyway. This is why healing items are so good and are banned in more hardcore runs (and, though you might not be aware, the core reason items are banned in your runs and those of others. This is true at least from a gameplay and game balance perspective). This brings us back to Leech Seed. You are, simply by numbers, way, way bulkier than that of your opponents and therefore, healing means a lot more to you than it does to your opponents. They take 3 hits to KO you and you oneshot almost everything you breathe in the general direction of. So now imagine Leech Seed healing those hits off. Those hits slowly grow up to a 4H and 5H and 6HKO and so on, the more and more you heal. Leech Seed is fantastic at this, as you get a large amount of healing for the cost of only one turn per use. These heals give you the safety to set up Bulk Up, which makes your healing better, which makes it even easier to Bulk Up and so on. The key point is that Bulk Up is also increasing a defensive stat. Now for a minor tangent. There's a set that sometimes comes up in competitive play. Substitute + Healing. The Leech Seed variant is called "SubSeed" and is used by Pokemon like Whimsicott. They will set up a Leech Seed and a Substitute, then sit behind that Sub as they heal off the HP cost, drain opposing HP and get bulkier and bulkier behind the safety of their decoy. Aegislash was a menace doing this in generation 6 with King's Shield and Leftovers. There's another move that often pairs with Subsititute - Focus Punch. These are called "SubPunch" sets and are very strong if they get set up, as a hit taken by your decoy does NOT break your focus on the charge period of Focus Punch. I didn't see Substitute in your learnset at the side of your screen in this video, so maybe Breloom gets this move in a later generation, but I believe there is a move tutor for Substitute somewhere in Emerald. With a set of Leech Seed + Substitute + Focus Punch + Bulk Up, Steven would have been a very easy battle, in my opinion. In the case that Substitute really isn't available to you, there's an alternative that you skipped out on in this playthrough. In the level 40's, Shroomish learns **SPORE**, but Breloom does not. Tangent now over, I can reach my conclusion here. If you had allowed Breloom to use Spore in this playthrough, you would have had access to a set of Spore/Focus Punch/Bulk Up/Leech Seed or Rest. If you go with Rest you use the Chesto Berry and only get one burst heal, on average, but it's much faster in pace. On the other hand, Leech Seed can be used to gain passive healing while not making yourself vulnerable to crits by putting yourself to sleep for more turns than it costs to re-use Leech Seed if required. The general gameplan would be to abuse your being faster (because you have speed EVs and they don't!) for a fast, 100% accurate sleep, which then gives you free reign to set up Bulk Ups until +6, then you put back to sleep and Focus Punch. Rinse and repeat until victory. This was a set you absolutely had available, and is one that the game AI is completely unequipped to deal with at all, but by not allowing yourself the use of Spore had completely been locked out of. I believe Breloom could have put up a much faster time throughout the game if it had this available to it, and reduced your resets too, like putting Torkal to sleep to reduce the risk to 0%. Whether you play through the run as a Shroomish until you learn Spore is your choice, but I think Breloom deserves another run with the best tools in its arsenal actually being used. ---- I want to leave you with one last message. I really hope I'm not "that guy" that's overly critical and points out all the things you did wrong without appreciation of the hard work you put into these videos, and without appreciation for all the things you do right too. I want you to understand that, although there may be times at which I am critical of your play and your choices, they come from a positive place. I write these comments with the goal of being genuinely constructive and helping you out as much as possible. It's my own way of helping you to improve yourself and build up your channel, to help you to grow and gain the subscribers you absolutely deserve. Those tiny arms are a ruse. It actually has long stretchy arms but keeps its hands close to its body. Meaning it can punch you from across the room!
Plus, the fact you need to significantly delay the evolution to get spore, which makes it even better.
I was surprised but greatly amused to learn Breloom's defensive stats are basically the same as Shroomish.
Yep! First time I evolved a shroomish I was blown away by how beast mode Breloom was. Mach Punch half the game to death. 🤣

I deeply appreciated his return in generation 5 on Elite 4's 2nd run. He's honestly a real threat and I love it.
Bulk up in gen 3 has extremely limited distribution, with mostly fighting types and your random groudon or grambulll getting it. This is why it is in reality, far less broken than curse.

To be fair, Curse is pretty meh outside of Snorlax and other Curse abusers because in later Gens, competitive games are very fast pace compare to Gen 2.

Nice! Can’t wait to see how Breloom does! It’s my second favorite Gen 3 pokemon and has remained a consistent powerhouse throughout the generations! It’s only too bad it won’t get spore here, but other than that, I think it’ll end up doing very well with its strong attack and access to mach punch. It’ll probably struggle against Winona and Tate and Liza though, so we’ll have to see how things work out there.
If that thing got Spore from the start it would be too OP for a solo challenge. S tier for sure.
Something I recommend doing with Pokémon that can set up is using that move when the opponent heals. It would certainly help to speed fights up, and I think it would help you win against Steven the first time.
Or finishing the Gyarados at the Wallace fight and preventing The healing loop.
I think Breloom really has potential to do better in a future versus video like you said. imagine if it got technician in this gen

Nice to see Breloom, favorite grass type in gen 3 (Tropious, a.k.a banana beard being the second). Breloom's typing is very interesting, and it has very good physical stats. It really feels like a physical tank with coverage.

I do think with the Maxie fight with Crobat, you could have set up Bulk Up vs Mightyena (maybe with held Persim Berry) to take an Air Cutter and also OHKO the bat. Also just a general tip: if you have a setup move and you’re in a situation where you’re not fully set up and the foe is healing, you can set up a bit more to save on PP and time so that you finish it off afterwards. Other than little things like that, I’m happy with how well you did with Breloom!

I know I complain bout this a lot, but it still hurts to see Swampert at the bottom of the tier list. Scott has more experience with the game now, so I think Swampert deserves another chance. Besides, I think in the Swampert run it started as a Mudkip? Which ofc made the early game harder. It literally only struggled against the grass types, Norman (because Scott didn't really know how to properly apply dig to evade the Slaking's attacks, I think? Dig is literally the go to move most people use against Slaking to toy with the truant turns, Scott just didn't know how to do that very well). Like, Swampert gets stab with dig, access to the soft sand from the girl at the beach, and an attack boost from Roxane's badge. Dig should be enough for Norman. And Tate/Liza, which I think he could easily beat with Surf+mystic water+ rain dance+ getting Swampert to torrent range activating its ability. Swampert is at least a B tier pokemon, I'll never get tired of saying this: give it another chance 😢.
I'm a fan of Swampert too. Scott has gotten soooo much better at pokemon and being a poketuber that all his early challenges would get way better results today.
He's already said that he's going to be redoing all of the gen 3 pokemon he's done so far because he'll be able to apply the knowledge and skill he's gained over the year+ since he started doing Emerald runs. Swampert, and all of the others, will be getting a second run. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but eventually.
Think about it like this - the longer Scott waits to redo Swampert, the more experienced he'll be, the more justice he'll do it!

Very cool run! I think one thing worth considering when you're in situations of npc healing right after you knock them down to the red, you should be trying to punish there with set up moves. For example with Steven's skarmory, when it's gonna get healed you could have set up a bulk up and one shot it and had at least better ranges in the first try

Have you thought about applying a log scale to your growth rate chart y axis? It would make the graph way more readable and would show how experience gains scale with level as well. It is way more clear than the chart used previously though!

I don't think it's just Breloom. Fighting in general is probably one of the most improved types as the generations go on. It was mostly only ever held back in prior generations due to the combination of poor STAB options and the overwhelming dominance of psychic types.
I think bug is the only type that would have been more improved on, that or maybe dark or ghost

Yes, technically Psych lost its dominance starting in gen-2, but more so in competitive PVP. However, the lack of NPCs with steel or dark types means psychic remained pretty dominant in gen-2 PVE, which is what Scott plays.
@@robloxplays4322 Gen 5 is pretty much where Pokémon peaked in general, you had just about everything for every typing aside from physical Ghost types who only got a usable STAB move in Gen 8's DLC and Special Rock types who up to this day only have Power Gem (guess Special Dark also sucks since it has 4 moves and one is exclusive to Zoroark and the other for G-Moltres but Dark Pulse is very widespread), which is honestly absurd considering Pokémon has mostly been catering to competitive play
I still think you should have two tier lists. One until the Elite Four and one at the end of Steven. Steven just makes it way too lop-sided. If one pokemon does well throughout the entire game but then struggles with Steven, it will just end up looking a lot worse, because of that one trainer who isn‘t even necessary for the credits to roll…

Predictions: Good to great early game, gonna suffer with Flannery, Winona and Tate and Lisa. After that, smooth sailings until Phoebe and Drake.
I never appreciated this little guy until I started playing competitive Pokémon. The spore and rock tomb combo made so many of my friends mad 😂
This game would be an absolute breeze if Breloom learned sleep powder like I thought it did. If you ever do a repeat playthrough I think that against the aqua/magma leaders you'll have an easy time of it if you use a confusion cure berry (persim?) and let them give you +2 through swagger. Or just set up against the Mightyena. Not much of roar + crunch + take down + swagger should scare you (if you have the right berry).

Shroomish evolving into Breloom was probably the most surprising Badass Reveal in Gen 3. That the frumpy grumpy little -mildew stain- Lichen pokemon would one day evolve into a crazy boxing kangaroo mushroom was both delightful and unexpected .
I always liked Breloom. Even when I had no clue about stats I liked it. It has a cool design and an interesting type combination.
Breloom uses Bullet seed these days since it's physical, was buffed and breloom has technician. It hits quite hard.

The opening bell has rung for the fighting mushroom dinosaur. I never really used a Breloom myself but it's always been one of those Pokémon I've associated with my younger brother, with it being part of one of his first Pokémon teams.
1:47 - A bit ironic that Attract is considered a viable option against a Steel specialist, the type with the most Genderless Pokémon within their group.
2:24 - Oh, an Sludge Bomb is physical in this gen. It won't be any good against Steven but a power poisoning move like it would be a good alternative to the Fighting type attacks Breloom will mostly be using.
5:50 - Man, Mega Drain already, an just before Roxanne. What fantastic timing.
9:16 - I've never understood why a lot of the Pokémon who learn these priority moves are already fast Pokémon. I mean, I suppose it fits thematically but it's not like they need them usually. Given Breloom's speed is more average at best, Mach Punch actually feels like a great fit.
13:09 - Aww, man; the strategy was solid but you were just one or two Bulk Up's short. Rather hilarious that your Grass/Fighting type so far has been relying primarily on a Silk Scarf boosted Headbutt.
16:21 - Pelipper is listed as the Water Bird Pokémon but I'm pretty sure it's classification is supposed to be the troll Pokémon. These things are a right nuisance to fight against. Cool to see your Breloom's Effect Spore finally come into play.
18:06 - Uhhh, true; could be useful against Wallace's Ludicolo though and it does hit neutral damage against Flying types such as the flying dragons of Drake's. I'm curious to see how that battle is going to play out now as I expected Sludge Bomb to be the answer for him.
21:26 - The joyful quirkiness of Ghost being physical back then is always fun to see it being properly utilised. I think another aspect of Ghost being physical back then is that it feels like it was intended to be a counter specifically for Psychic types, whom don't often have much Defence.
22:28 - Let's be honest, it struggled against Crobat. Flying/Poison is designed too well to counter Breloom. Bug/Flying would also be an issue but you don't encounter any as high level or high stat as the villain team leader's with Crobats.
26:09 - Rather hilarious that a 40 attack power move handed out as a TM by the first Gym Leader is what is proving to be the obstacle here. An I guess the solution to Drake was Return instead of Sludge Bomb. I suppose a 30% chance to Poison doesn't mean much when you're hoping to one-shot your opponents.
29:28 - "I'm going to take less damage from the Skarmory" you say as your health bar disappears. Things have been going super well for Breloom, but given the additional 8 minutes of the video... I expect here is going to be the roadblock.
30:42 - Amarldo with big pointy ears is hilarious to picture. Also, congrats to the new Venomoth. I look forward to see the type confused Amarldo challenge in the future.

Breloom is such an amazing Pokémon
Breloom is objectively the best bipedal monkey mushroom dog thing in all of Pokemon.
I would recommend you look into adding Substitute to pokemon with a setup move. It would have really helped here on a set like Attract, Bulk up, Substitute, Brick Break with leftovers. By keeping a substitute up, you can fish for attract turns and use those to setup bulk up. You need leftovers to buy you a 5th substitute, or if you are lucky enough, even a 6th. It would also have helped against Drake because if you use substitute, the speed drop from rock tomb doesn't hit and also, if your substitute survives, the intimidate is ignored. Iirc, it is available at the top of the lilycove mart so you'll have to defeat the rival there to get access.
Finally my favorite mon gets some love.

I completely get what you mean about Fighting types looking too human usually and Breloom being a nice exception. Heracross is my favourite Fighting type for the same reasons, followed by Breloom and then Toxicroak. It's just a cute beetle friend instead of a weird-looking person with a hat/belt/gloves.
machamp is king of early gen fighting types! that being said im excited to see how breloom will do.
Breloom had an insane glow up in gen 5 with its hidden ability technichan and the physical/special split, which allowed it to spam mach punches and bullet seeds with insane power (also spore)
so i'm curious, because i've never really considered the steven fight in emerald part of the "required" story path and probably would've left it out of runs like this in a way i wouldn't've with red. so i know it's a ways off and i doubt you've thought about it yet, but if you work your way up to playing gen 5, would you want to include the e4 rematch and alder fight (bw) or cynthia fight (b2w2) in the run the way you do steven? or leave them out/do them as a bonus like with oak and mewtwo in yellow?
So about brelooms learning quirk you mentioned it learns headbutt at 22 because Shroomish should have it before it evolves then mach punch is the move it attempts to learn on evolution
Can you add the time they beat the champion into the metrics at the end? It would be good to show when a Pokémon beats the game quickly but struggles with Steven
Small note: When it comes to its weaknesses, it is nuetral to Poison thanks to fighting's resistance to poison being nullified by grass's weakness

Breloom has always been the goat. Gen 6 with technician was a monster
Before watching:
I love Breloom! It‘s an example of a really well-balanced pokemon! Substitute, leech seed and Poison Heal with Toxic orb make it surprisingly durable, Spores is really great to then set-up with SwordsDance. And it has great offensive attacks from its physical side!
At least that‘s what I love about it in Gen4… Gen3 is not nearly as great yet!
Grass is all physical, no Spores, no Swords Dance, no Poison Heal… suddenly there is a limit of how much it can actually do.
The Elite 5 has a lot of weaknesses against fighting. The Psychic gym is mostly weak to Grass too.
Biggest issue will be the flying gym (4-times weakness) and the Drake in the Elite Four, I think. But Facade from such a high attack stat will still make it reasonably doable.
The scariest threat will be Skarmory.
Overall, I think Breloom will glide through most of the game and then get stopped by a handful of very, very specific threats.

Honestly, his only major weakness is the 4x Flying (Aerial Ace is a hell of a move) and Sky Uppercut being too weak for a non-100% accurate move (albeit Brick Break is not far behind and can even outsmart some foes if they try to bring Reflect)
Unreleated, but a delayed Shroomish can learn Spore to pass to Breloom... Makes me wonder how a run that you start with Shroomish would fare
Fun Fact: in Gen9 Breloom finally got Close Combat, his best stabs were Seed Bomb and Superpower for quite some time

It is I! I come bearing comments, learning and general encouragement. I'm typing this as I watch the video, and the first thing I have noticed is that you are under-valuing Leech. You seemed adamant on just clicking grass damage, which is fine, but I think you actually made the choice with a slower time. Leech Seed deals damage over time, which allows you not only stay topped up in difficult battles (I would be considering it against Steven, even as you're at Brawly as I type this), but that extra little bit of damage can be enough to bring something down from a 3HKO to a 2HKO. Nosepass was a good example of this, as Leech Seed into Bullet Seed into Leech Seed would very likely have KO'd her ace while dodging the potion turns.
You played a little risky against Maxie at Mt Chimney - you know Mightena absolutely can't KO you, even with a crit, so you can set up a Bulk Up turn 1 and cancel out the Intimidate, which confirms the KO on every member of his team. You were at -1, so failing to KO Camerupt opens you to damage from Ember, while failing to KO Zubat risks a reset from either being confused and hitting yourself, or eating a Wing Attack to the face. You did a similar thing against Norman's Slaking. Bulk Up on its turn 1 and 2 would still avoid Counter, but also make you more resilient into its damage, guaranteeing you survive to 1HKO with Sky Uppercut later.
Coming back to the above point now, you're at Maxie again and didn't set up against Mightyena, and you got punished by getting 1HKO'd by Crobat. You're going for an immediate KO but it costs you resets and time. Exploiting opportunities to set up is slow now, but faster in the long run. It should not have cost you 7 Rare Candies here. Leech Seed + Bulk Up would allow you to fully set up to +6 and use a normal-type move to take out Crobat. Remember - flying type moves are physical, so Bulk Up can help you overcome to type up with raw stats. You went on to make the same mistake a 3rd time against Archie after taking care of Tate&Liza. I think you would really benefit from improving your ability to recognize set-up opportunities to guarantee a sweep, rather than jeopardize it by going for the immediate "free" KO right in front of you.

Now, I see you struggling with Steven, so I'm going to delve into some more advanced theory, based in my competitive background. I think there's a set you overlooked which would have made a large difference in this battle. First thing of note is that you, the player, have a massive stat advantage over that of trainers. You get EVs and they don't. This means that your Pokemon are going to be much, much bulkier than anything the game throws at you. This makes setting up and general bulk a lot more valuable to you than it is to the AI. Now, this has a cascade effect as the bulkier you are, the better healing becomes as bulk and healing both combine to increase your bulk exponentially. Gaining stats through levels works the same way. You're gaining HP and defenses at the same time, so not only is your upfront HP pool much larger over time, but each hit deals less damage to you anyway. This is why healing items are so good and are banned in more hardcore runs (and, though you might not be aware, the core reason items are banned in your runs and those of others. This is true at least from a gameplay and game balance perspective).
This brings us back to Leech Seed. You are, simply by numbers, way, way bulkier than that of your opponents and therefore, healing means a lot more to you than it does to your opponents. They take 3 hits to KO you and you oneshot almost everything you breathe in the general direction of. So now imagine Leech Seed healing those hits off. Those hits slowly grow up to a 4H and 5H and 6HKO and so on, the more and more you heal. Leech Seed is fantastic at this, as you get a large amount of healing for the cost of only one turn per use. These heals give you the safety to set up Bulk Up, which makes your healing better, which makes it even easier to Bulk Up and so on. The key point is that Bulk Up is also increasing a defensive stat.
Now for a minor tangent. There's a set that sometimes comes up in competitive play. Substitute + Healing. The Leech Seed variant is called "SubSeed" and is used by Pokemon like Whimsicott. They will set up a Leech Seed and a Substitute, then sit behind that Sub as they heal off the HP cost, drain opposing HP and get bulkier and bulkier behind the safety of their decoy. Aegislash was a menace doing this in generation 6 with King's Shield and Leftovers. There's another move that often pairs with Subsititute - Focus Punch. These are called "SubPunch" sets and are very strong if they get set up, as a hit taken by your decoy does NOT break your focus on the charge period of Focus Punch. I didn't see Substitute in your learnset at the side of your screen in this video, so maybe Breloom gets this move in a later generation, but I believe there is a move tutor for Substitute somewhere in Emerald. With a set of Leech Seed + Substitute + Focus Punch + Bulk Up, Steven would have been a very easy battle, in my opinion.
In the case that Substitute really isn't available to you, there's an alternative that you skipped out on in this playthrough. In the level 40's, Shroomish learns **SPORE**, but Breloom does not.
Tangent now over, I can reach my conclusion here. If you had allowed Breloom to use Spore in this playthrough, you would have had access to a set of Spore/Focus Punch/Bulk Up/Leech Seed or Rest. If you go with Rest you use the Chesto Berry and only get one burst heal, on average, but it's much faster in pace. On the other hand, Leech Seed can be used to gain passive healing while not making yourself vulnerable to crits by putting yourself to sleep for more turns than it costs to re-use Leech Seed if required. The general gameplan would be to abuse your being faster (because you have speed EVs and they don't!) for a fast, 100% accurate sleep, which then gives you free reign to set up Bulk Ups until +6, then you put back to sleep and Focus Punch. Rinse and repeat until victory. This was a set you absolutely had available, and is one that the game AI is completely unequipped to deal with at all, but by not allowing yourself the use of Spore had completely been locked out of. I believe Breloom could have put up a much faster time throughout the game if it had this available to it, and reduced your resets too, like putting Torkal to sleep to reduce the risk to 0%.
Whether you play through the run as a Shroomish until you learn Spore is your choice, but I think Breloom deserves another run with the best tools in its arsenal actually being used.

I want to leave you with one last message. I really hope I'm not "that guy" that's overly critical and points out all the things you did wrong without appreciation of the hard work you put into these videos, and without appreciation for all the things you do right too.
