- On this week's edition of The Michigan Recruiting Insider, Sam Webb, Steve Lorenz, and Brice Marich recap the recent commitments by top 100 prospects Ivan Taylor (who flipped from Notre Dame) and Andrew Olesh. The crew highlighted the strong recruiting showings by new staff members Lamar Morgan, Steve Casula, and Lou Esposito. Attention then turned to commentary from 247Sports’s national director of scouting about why a few Wolverine commitments recently rose in the rankings, and why quarterback commit Carter Smith did not. From there the conversation shifted to other big time Michigan targets who could be deciding soon, with a special focus on five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola. The crew then previews Phillip Wright’s Saturday announcement, and the threat LSU would still present if he doesn’t choose the Tigers. Who would’ve thought in 3 straight recruiting classes we’d land Jadyn Davis, Carter Smith, then Brady Hart? In 2022 people were freaking out thinking we’d never land a top QB recruit ever again lol
Stacked, but will any of them be good? I think Jadyn Davis (sp?) will end up starting at some point this season, and he will take the reins from there.
Ppl forget, Harbaugh’s first class was held together with duct tape and finished ranked 27th. Moore is ahead of the curve. I felt like when the weather heated up so too would the recruiting. Smash!💥
The 2015 class ? Where he was there less than 2 months before signing day? Thats not fair to compare. Jimmy had more time to get the 2016 recruiting class together than the 2025 recruiting class More will have tho.

His first class was basically those left over from Hoke that stuck. In the limited time Jim had he added something like 2 or 3 guys.

QB camps don’t measure how a guy plays when a 300 pounder is bearing down on them with intentions of laying them out. That’s the most important measurement of a qb. Also I think Michigan may have found a diamond in the rough with Jayden sanders. This guy is long and fast. Raw with the technique as coach Bedford likes to say this isn’t a track meet this is football.
It's really refreshing for Michigan to be finally getting some good wide receiver talent

Just to be clear, Carter Smith is a composite 4-star, which makes him a 4-star. 247 has him ridiculously low at .8900 score and a 3-star.

Steve nails it with the "weird" descriptor of Pennsylvania recruiting landscape.
The new staff is doing a great job with recruiting. I hope that they can coach and develop these players like their predecessors.

Great show as always as a Michigan fan and Michigan native I have enjoyed the Michigan insider. Sam Webb and his team is the best when it comes to insider and Michigan content. Will Campbell.. Even though he was ranked on both sides of the ball and ended up playing defense.. He was a 5* guy coast to coast..
B.J. Mary has one big task...WU Boateng... Archie goes to hometown Rutgers, but maybe he should have Sherrone, Lamar take care of this one, too big to lose..(1 LB, respectfully seems like a lotto ticket).
He's really the only position coach who hasn't recruited well this cycle. Every other position coach has landed at least one 4 ⭐ (Espo, Alford and Morgan have multiple).
If he can land NOB, all is well. But dropping the ball with Archie and intentionally slow playing him in the spring has been the biggest mistake of the cycle so far.
Absolutely,!!! especially because the LB from 24' with a sub 30 rank was Beasley...(Now in Mizzou, I don't know why.) Dominic Nichols is promising though. Thanks to the portal we have Barham., but pairs with Houseman...the rest ? Cole Sullivan who is supposed to be much better than his 400? #67 rank shows, I really hope so. Then.. Ludwig or someone who's last year of high school didn't help his #180 best LB rank. Who knows, sh** happens, we're good for this year...of course we have others, one more year of Josiah..an Edge, but LB label and ability all the same. ...Guy, Bridgeman, another Moore😅.etc, I don't know how long we have some of these cats... (..but getting Boateng is a must, it's easier to gauge a #6 LBs future than a WR. It's bright, I just hope it's in A2. (Not many LBs on the visits anyway, which was irresponsible, only 2. So, hopefully Nichols, long shots like Sullivan pan out. Another reason Michigan, (We😅), even with Boateng...25' can relax, should be alright is the portal. Usually most needs, with proven players are filled. Still, B.J.M. has the #600+, and like Casula if Olesh went elsewhere .. wouldn't be as celebrated...that's B.J.M...WU Boateng or bust. Even Bellamy had an off year with l'marion Stewart, Goodwin as the only WR..added Amarion (who once any "just adjusting" crap started, I was hoping he'd just play his natural position, WR, still not sure..supposed to be a freak talent) Now, Washington, big time..Taz is going elsewhere because we're going to get Wright on Saturday, burner...then again I never understood why we wouldn't "take" 3 with Marsh waiting to commit.. hopefully! Looks good. So 4. Even Myles or if reason prevails, Meadows decided to get on the winning side, it doesn't mean Taz should be denied...or in his view, Semaj, possibly Moore, and Marsh, Washington, Wright and others would gut his playing time. He picks an hour after wright so ...he's going elsewhere. Point is, Bellamy got his sh** together. Marsh would make an official great year.,. BJM preferably with Sherrone, every FN coach there if necessary gets this one done...WU is extremely close, possibly tilting Michigan, so ..... apologies for the novel, think positive is all we can do...so...see you on the boards! LSU will almost always be in play fro a kid from Louisiana. Few schools have their state on lock as much as LSU.
Saban and Brown found success there in some cases but for the most part if they want a Louisiana kid they'll get him.
How? Usually in ways that are now legal (lmao) but they get it done...but there is still a lot of local pressure on kids as well. Again, few states are lucky enough to have that kind of ubiquitous pull AND the ability to leverage it and other means to influence local kids.
If Wright chooses Michigan soon it won't be over. He'll be a high flip risk down the road.

One thing I'd like to see is more Michigan landing dudes from the top 50, 25, 10. Check out the 247 player ranks and how far down we are before hitting a blue chip. When was the last top 10......Rashan Gary? Getting tired of seeing all those guys going to the same 3-4 schools. We CAN do it with the right recruiting mentality.

Michigan recruits differently than almost any other school. Do we want high 5 star recruits ?
Of course we do but that is not the highest priority, they have to fit our system and style is priority #1.
