Magnificent! This is one of my childhood favorites. At 13 in 1965, I waited for this song to be played on our New York City stations. WHY isn't this available on I Tunes?
At Mel's pool hall in Pittsburgh I would always drop my quarter in play this tune and sing along. We are told within each person is a universe so yes the two different worlds we encounter in others makes life so special. +
I remember Lenny and "Two Different Worlds" very well. As a kid maybe 14, 15 years old, I thought he and Johnny Mathis were the best ever. 50 plus years I am still convinced. Wait, who remembers "The Big Hurt" by Toni Fisher?
Can't tell you how many times I've spun this record as a kid. I know it's not the original, but it's my favorite version. Epic rock ballad style and the key change make it an exciting rendition.
love this one two....saw Lenny in concert last year and asked him why he didn't sing my favorite one "two different worlds" He and I sang a couple of bars of this one together....
On this day in 1965 {September 4th} Lenny Welch performed "Two Different Worlds*" on the Los Angeles-based syndicated television program 'Shivaree'... At the time the song was at #75 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, four weeks later it would peak at #61 {for 1 week}and it spent 8 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #6 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... Between 1960 and 1972 the New Jersey native had nine records on the Top 100 chart, one made the Top 10, "Since I Fell For You", it peaked at #4 {for 2 weeks} on December 22nd, 1963... His next biggest hit was a covered version of "Ebb Tide", it peaked at #25 in1964... On the same 'Shivaree' show he also performed "I Was There", it was "Two Different Worlds'" B-side and track two of side two on his album, 'Two Different Worlds', it was composed by Carole King & Gerry Goffin... Leon 'Lenny' Welch celebrated his 79th birthday four months ago on May 31st {2017}... * Nine years earlier on November 8th, 1956 Don Rondo's version of "Two Different Worlds" peaked at #11 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Most Played on Juke Boxes chart...
I was in college when this some came out. I saw Lenny in '64, shortly after his masterpiece, "Since I Fell for You," a song also done beautifully by Bonnie Raitt.

Saw LW on a PBS oldies show few years ago...either out-of-practice or his voice was shot. big drag...always liked this one better than "Since I Fell"...thought he was white till I saw his pic here...ditto, conversely, for singer in O'Kaysions....well, that's Pop.
Glenn: listen, I loved WMCA but truth be told Group W was in love with the all-news thing, which WINS has now had for 51 years, so that was a good move. WMCA was destined to be Power Radio (a talk station) under R. Peter Strauss. In the top 40 era NYC Pulse ratings WMCA owned the 5 boroughs BUT WABC had the big signal to win Total Survey Area. Ruth Meyer designed WMCA to be have the feel of the "Prohibition Era".
they wouldn't let me put in a url. so search facebook and look for Lenny Welch in California. he's on my friend list. I can send him a message, if you don't have a facebook account, if you like, but I can't guarantee he pays much attention.
WHAT A SONG. WHAT MEMORIES. THIS…. WAS MUSIC. GOLD FROM 1965. Paul Messina, New York City
Fabulous song. Haven't heard it in years. Probably his best song.
Lenny Welch hit gold every time in 1965 at least in New York

Fran, you're misspelling his last name: it's Welch, not "WelSh"

Original?
Magnificent song with a special poignancy for the early Civil Rights movement.
