I am cracking up at Elana. When Mrs. H said she prefers her cheesecake to be a little more solid Elana shook her head no. She also did not talk much at all she was eating that cheese cake fast. I am pretty sure in this video she was There For The Cheesecake. hahaha
A little tip for the NutriBullet is to pick the whole thing up and shake like you're making a drink in a bar shaker cup while it's running. That way you keep it mixing so it blends evenly and faster.
Love eggnog! I just wish they would sell it year round over here, but I'd probably go broke and fat! 😂 32 oz eggnog ( ,95 liter) at Wallymart for most brands runs about $4
For crusts: Nilla wafters, graham crackers, Oreos, and gingersnaps. I haven't heard hob since I was in grad school. We had a Brit in the lab next door to ours. He cooked on a hob, but we used the stove, lol. A hit on the folding: Add just a little bit at first. Both components in this recipe were close to the same consistency. But when you are folding something very liquid in to something stiff, the liquid component tends to sink underneath and large amounts can be hard to blend in. This reduces the amount of stirring, which reduces the volume loss on cram or egg whites.
Mrs H is describing the texture of a baked cheesecake. The recipe you followed was for a no-bake cheesecake. Both are good and delicious but each one certainly is different.
When my family was in Germany, we fell in love with the German cheesecake. My mother learned to make it using the Dr Oetker cheesecake helper mix. (It can be ordered online or even from some Walmarts). While a lot of the recipes call for a cheese called quark , we had never heard of that and never saw it anywhere, so mother just used cottage cheese in her German cheesecake and they always came out delicious and beautiful. She'd put fruit topping on them to finish them. They are a baked cheesecake.
My grandma used to buy seasonings from door-to-door salesman who sold Watkins seasonings. I got spoiled on food she made with Watkins vanilla. It's the only one I buy. lovely job with this treat, it looks fabulous.
It seems to me as though if the cream cheese mixture were mixed with less of the whipped cream, you would wind up with a firmer, denser cheesecake, and the unused whipped cream could be used as a topping for the cheesecake. The whipped cream to be used as a topping should probably be reserved in the refrigerator, so that it's as good as possible when the time comes to serve.
We call it a stove rather than a hob. And, actually, referring to the individual heating elements, we call those burners. Put it on the burner. Yes, we use graham crackers for our cheese cake crust. I make the Philadelphia version of cheese cake which uses no flour as opposed to the New York version. It's much creamier.
I've made cheesecake crusts with coconut, chocolate cookies, cinnamon graham crackers. Other suggested crusts include Oreo, gingersnaps, shortbread, nut crusts and Biscoff crust.
Mrs. H, baking from scratch is going to be a winner, then Mr H, giving us a " bloody hell", I knew it was going to be an automatic 10! Love to see the whole family together taste testing. I'll definitely have a big slice please! BLY you guys! ❤❤❤❤❤
_Stove_ is the appliance and generally has an oven or two. _Stove_ _top_ refers to the burners/heating elements and their surround. I've heard people use hob, but I'd bet everyone I've ever heard say it is no longer. Like my grandparent's generation. (I'm old)
It was a little thin because of eggnog. If you don't like that consistency add 1/2 teaspoon of instant vanilla pudding. It will change the consistency without changing the flavor, making it more stable.
I use Madagascan vanilla mostly because it's the most commonly found in US stores. I only use the good stuff in drinks, custard, and sauces. I use the fake vanilla in cookies or brownies when it doesn't matter as much.
I make my own vanilla. I have 3 different types. Straight Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, Tahitian Vanilla, and a 50/50 blend of the Madagascar and Tahitian beans. I prefer the pure Tahitian over the pure Madagascar. I haven't yet tried the 50/50 blend. I find the Madagascar vanilla is a bit too pungent for my taste. The Tahitian is very smooth and has such a beautiful taste to me. I'm anxious to see how the blend comes out. I love cheesecake. I make my crust with crushed pecans, almond flour, brown sugar, and a little white sugar.
🇺🇲 that is a stove top over here and we call them burners. Yep ginger snaps crumbs are the crust on our holiday cheesecakes. Your cheesecake looked beautiful and Mr H's face said it all.
Egg nog in the supermarkets near me (Long Island, NY) is $5.99 - $6.99 for half gallon container (1.89 liters). I make homemade vanilla extracts, one Madagascar and one Tahitian. I enjoy both but prefer the Madagascar. Your egg nog cheesecake is beautiful. It's common in the U.S. to stabilize the whipped cream with gelatin when making a no bake cheesecake. The gelatin firms up the filling.
Hello H's and Friends, Hob (As well as Cooker) is definately a UK word that I have never heard nor read in any American Book nor my experiences (60 years) with other Yanks. We call a Hob, a Stove (where you put pots and pans) and Oven (where one bakes) or Burners for the top part. Since Cheesecake and Eggnog share so many ingredients in common, I'm not surprised that there is an eggnog cheesecake. Eggnog is normally more boozy than the tablespoon or so of booze you might put in a cheesecake but not necessarily so. At a xmas party in the 70s where I was doing some of the food prep, I remember I made an eggnog with a french vanilla ice cream we all enjoyed (which has the cream, sugar and eggs in it already in it) and added a bit more cream to make it drinkable plus the Brandy. It was a big hit. Jacques Mexico
We call it a stovetop or stove. The stovetop and oven combination is called a range. Costco is selling 1/2 gallon of egg nog for $4.99 in Connecticut. That is non alcoholic. My favorite vanilla is the Kirkland vanilla from Costco. Often I don’t use a crust or base for my cheesecakes. I just pour and set the mixture in a glass pie dish. Makes it very easy and Keto if you use monkfruit sweetener in place of sugar.
10:44 Well, Mrs. H, as far as how solid the cheesecake was, it's possible that if you let it chill overnight, that it'd have the firmness that you'd have preferred. But, that's just a theory
We did enjoy this over several days and it didn’t seem to firm up so I think what some people suggested was a bit of vanilla pudding mix or maybe some gelatine could have done the trick
Oh yummmy! I used to make eggnog fudge for Christmas. Everyone, well almost everyone, loved it. This year I’m trying dark chocolate covered Oreo cookies.
I had to look it up. Use of term " hob": " The word "hob" is very old and originated from a time when cooking was done over open fires in large fireplaces. The hob was a shelf or grate that was placed at the back or to the side of the fire. It was intended to keep pots warm via indirect heat, rather than in the direct heat over the fire."
That looks delicious to me! If you prefer the kind that's more 'solid' look for a recipe where you bake the cheesecake in the oven - it's a slightly different recipe, but you can find an eggnog version of that, too! Both are scrumptious!
"Hob" depending on region is either Burner, Stovetop (therefore the brand of stuffing, but usually just "Stove"), or Range (but can also mean the entire appliance, probably short for "Rangetop", but also "put it on the range" already means on top as opposed to "in"). I may be unaware of, or forgotten, some others because it feels like there are more. Never heard of "Hob".
Keep it up and you guys will resemble the humans in the Wall-E movie. I don't hear of people creating popcorn cranberry garlands for the tree anymore. A traditional thing in my early years of the 60s-70s.
Hey y'all ! Looks like the family is doing well. Glad to see it. Well done Mrs. H ! If ya Eggnod Cheese Cake tastes as good as it looks ya did an excellent job. Ya doing a great job of expanding ya culinary skills and ya should be proud. Have fun and be safe. :)
My local Walmart has half-gallons for $5.18 (which would be like £2.15 per liter) and that's about 2.4X the cost of the same size of 3.25% milkfat milk (which used to be 4% standard now I just noticed I'm being ripped off).
Eggnog Cheesecake is not everywhere in the US. On a very few menus or on a fast food Christmas menu in the form of a milkshake. I have made this before but rarely for the Holidays. The base is very useful (nutmeg and all) with some toasted coconut & rum. It makes a wonderful Coconut Creme Cheesecake.
Baked cheesecakes, like the New York style, usually give a firmer texture than refrigerator cheesecakes. That looks more like a French style cheesecake.
In the US, generally the stove refers to both the ranges on the top and the oven below. I'm curious as to why you don't buy eggnog in the grocery store. I lived in Harrogate for about 10 years from and could always find eggnog in the grocery store there in the UK.
Non baked cheesecakes that I make are always a bit looser but also SO creamy!! I think you made it perfectly to be honest!! Eggnog in Wyoming is $4.99 for a QT. My husband loves it too.
Since the H family evidently likes eggnog so very much, your next project might be to make homemade eggnog ice cream. You could make enough ice cream to make eggnog milk shakes with some of it. Happy Christmas week!
Knocking your cheesecake down a point because it’s too soft? Don’t sell yourself short! The cheesecake sounds amazing! If it’s too soft, just put it in the refrigerator overnight and it should firm up nicely. You folks do a wonderful job making American cuisine. Continue to have fun and enjoy the fruits of your labors. Remember we don’t have hard and fast rules. Feel free to experiment, and enjoy!❤
Eggnog can be found all year round here, but it is most common from October - January. There are several brands and even flavors available as well, such as pumpkin spiced eggnog, peppermint (and others). You can find it with or without alcohol in it and a popular one is with Southern Comfort. I went to the grocery store yesterday and 64 oz. (half gallon) of Gandy's eggnog was $5.99. There are organic options that are slightly more expensive (about 50 to 75 cents) but nothing close to $10 unless you start getting into gallon sizes. It's a shame you guys across the pond don't have it more readily available. I've never had eggnog cheesecake, but that looks great. I bet it would go really well with some ginger snap cookies.
we here in new england, north of boston area call the whole top a stove and the individual burners hubs. ex: "Can you put the pan on the stove top on the right front hub(Burner), please."
Sorry I missed this, Windows decided it was a good time to do an update.😡 BTW: Eggnog at my Detroit area Kroger is $4.39.a half gallon. When I hear the term 'hob' I think of Bilbo Baggins. In the US, if the 'hob' is separate unit like yours, it is a cooktop. When it is one unit with an oven, it is a range or stove. The range is free standing where a stove slides in or is built in with the cabinetry. Ooh, I wonder how a bit of rum or brandy would be in the mix?
The whole thing is the stove. The four parts on top is the range. Each one is a burner. Old joke: No more fun on the stove for granny she’s too old to ride the range…

Why would it be anything else but a stove 😂😂😂
WOW YOUR PIPING BAG SKILLS ARE SERIOUSLY IMPROVED, HOW DID THE FILLING GO
Less messy this time LOL
That looks amazing! I've never had it, but I definitely will now. BTW your tree is gorgeous!
Thank you 🎄
I just bought eggnog in 1/2 gallon (1.89ltr) for $3.89 US. It's far easier to just buy pasteurized eggnog and add cinnamon and nutmeg to it .
For a moment I thought Mr's H. was going to spell out an "H" with the cinnamon on top. Looked good.
lol, I don’t have the skills for that
I NEED that recipe!!!❤
It’s so good! cincyshopper.com/no-bake-eggnog-cheesecake/
We usually buy two quarts of eggnog a year. Now not so much.
Eggnog is unpopular and cost around $3 😊
Put it in the freezer for the last half hour and it will be more solid. Also, sub the sugar for sweetened condensed milk for thicker texture.
Ah yes that would have done it (but I don’t think I would have had room in the freezer)
Folding in the whipped cream made the cheesecake soft set. It wasn't going to be solid like a regular european or even a New York cheesecake.
Once cool add Whiskey or Rum ...😊 like a proper Pirate... From :Boston...😊
Fold it in David, fold it
licking the spoon ;mixer or bowl is almost a requirement lol
I've had some at my local cheesecake shoppe and it was delicious 😋😋😋😋
Looks delicious, I’m going to have to try this recipe!
It was good
Looks and sounds wonderful. But first I have heard of EggNog Cheese cake.
Oh wow! It's delicious 😋
we here in new england, north of boston area call the whole top a stove and the individual burners hubs. ex: "Can you put the pan on the stove top on the right front hub(Burner), please."
We call a single unit a “burner”. The whole cooktop we call a stove.
You're bringing egg nog back to England!
Trying too
Sorry I missed this, Windows decided it was a good time to do an update.😡 BTW: Eggnog at my Detroit area Kroger is $4.39.a half gallon.
When I hear the term 'hob' I think of Bilbo Baggins. In the US, if the 'hob' is separate unit like yours, it is a cooktop. When it is one unit with an oven, it is a range or stove. The range is free standing where a stove slides in or is built in with the cabinetry.
Ooh, I wonder how a bit of rum or brandy would be in the mix?
a lot of cheaper than what Amazon wanted
@@Mrhandfriends Would Costco carry it? If so, could you use a 4 liter package of it?
I've used flavored Teddy Grahms for crumb crusts.😊
If you have "Philadelphia" cheese in the silver box. Do the cheese cake recipe on the back of the box. That's the cheese cake you're looking for. 👌
Top it with pie filling. Blue berry or whatever you choose
The words "digestive biscuit" sounds like something I should take if I"m not feeling well.... sorry 😞
It is an odd name now that you have mentioned it
Elana looks like she can't wait. She'll probably give the cheesecake a 2, but I give that look on her face in the thumbnail an 11.
We do not have your steamed puddings here. I would like to try making one.
I like using melted lard instead of butter in the crust.
It’s because it’s a no-bake cheesecake. It’s just a completely different texture. Taste is good, but texture is better on baked cheesecakes.
That’s not cheesecake. Cheesecake is baked in the oven in a water bath.
The whole thing is the stove. The four parts on top is the range. Each one is a burner. Old joke: No more fun on the stove for granny she’s too old to ride the range…
