Correct, Michael was a Green Beret in the Vietnam War, and does have an extensive background in martial arts as was mentioned in the pilot episode "Knight Of The Phoenix". The guy he fights before he investigates Mac Gifford is a Ninja, so it fits that he would prove to be a harder opponent for Michael than most of the typical thugs and criminals he usually encounters.
I love how you can blatantly tell the blades are coming from behind the wall, rather than being thrown from the front! Classic 80s action right here 🤗👌

I doubt they would've used real blades that close to an actors head. Most likely plastic replicas with the metal soundeffects added in post-production.
If Michael hadn't of dodged that last knife then that would of been a short episode and probably the end of the show unless they recast someone else as Michael Knight.
If you remember the pilot episode, Michael has a metal plate in his forehead from military surgery in Vietnam. So that knife would've conveniently bounced off, which would've been amusing.. lol! 🤣
