- This video give you an inside look into the life of an Agricultural Helicopter Spray Pilot. I get to go out with a pilot in New Zealand to get an detailed look at what it takes to be an Ag spray pilot and what their operation looks like.
They are flying a Robinson R44 helicopter with spray booms attached. Their hilly terrain along with obstacles like trees and powerlines makes it especially challenging for these pilots. There is a huge list of protocols that these operators need to follow to make sure they are staying safe.
This operator is called Far North Helicopters and run by incredibly experienced and diligent pilots. It was a pleasure to see their operation.
Ag Pilots in NZ really earn their pay, early starts, always flying on nice days so that means there days off are when the weather is bad!
Baz really knows the limits of his aircraft. I don't know if I would be that aggressive with a Robinson. 😯 Seems it would be beneficial to them to just get a more powerful helicopter so they could carry larger tanks. 🤔 Very cool video either way! Glad to see you back for 2024!
R44 still a popular ag machine here in NZ. Bigger machine for bigger jobs but the "Robbie" still good and more economic for the smaller ones. Don't hear of too many mishaps in ag ops either so take from that what you may.
Great video. The views from start to finish were spectacular. Thanks for taking us along. Blessings

Helicopter pilots dont make shit for Money
@@10oner first turbine gig making 70k US. Work 7/7 on/off. Next job will be 120k + as EMS Pilot in the H145, also 7/7 with Metro. I like the lifestyle and job better than airlines, I fly planes as well.
Awesome flying, go and find a venison recovery pilot to fly with, the last great adventure
Enjoyed the video, I guess the pilot has to resist unloading the rotor being a Robinson. I would have thought easy to do with that job.
Cool video. Mad skills. Did it make you feel a little uncomfortable at the further limits of the heli? Not unsafe, just much different than your typical instruction flight. I do like the new logo!
I’m curious as to why people think this is at the limit of the helicopter?
@@jessemorgan3589 not at the limits of the helicopter, but most pilots do not train on flying like this. Pilot Yellow is very experienced, as he states in the video, he has not done this type of flying before. Wondering how it felt.
Neat. Kia Ora
What crops are growing their that they're spraying weeds for?
I won't to do a job like this got Training in Bell 47 and running out of money to moveing on .
It’s actually pine trees that are planted so they are trying to keep the grass down so the pines can grow back and reforest.
@@PilotYellow thank you for the reply say hello to Ruben for me !
Well, at least the spray fluid can’t be too toxic, cause nobody is wearing ppe. Some great tight piloting there. 👍👍
How can I b like u
Drones are now being used in certain areas instead of helicopters.
It’s less expensive, faster, and more accurate. Everything can be scanned and set up to run on autopilot essentially.
Maybe for spraying 5-10 acre fields but for anything big drones are nowhere near competing with helis
Why don’t you tell us where you are?
There are co ordinates on the thumbnail of the video.
"gayland" lol
