These are all extraordinary musicians - virtuosos - creative collaborators. Yet I’m always amazed at how Emmet remains a standout among such rare company!
Amazing Quartet! Perfect balance of virtuosos. Emmet , so impressed by the audio quality of what you guys have been doing there, sounds awesome. Shout out to Kelvin Grant! Good work bud.
Describing the instrument James Morrison plays in this video as a "trumpet" ... it isn't wrong, and yet that instrument varies from what I played and called a "trumpet" by quite a bit. I'm quite curious about it.
100% a trumpet. Just has some modifications. The bent bell as made famous by Dizzy Gillespie is a common modification made to trumpets. The story goes that Dizzy sat on his trumpet and accidentally bent the bell, but when he went to play it he liked the sound of it, as the bent bell adds a unique tonal character to the instrument. He started having his trumpets modified to always be like that. Some trumpeters in big bands use a trumpet like that they can have their heads looking down at their music stands while their bell facing up projecting towards the audience.
@@fatjeezyindahouse The bent bell is not the only difference. That body and that piping, are quite different from the instrument I held in my hands for many years.
@@arthursolomon4165 Aha! I have found it. It is called a "Raweni", and they even have a bent-bell version. Interestingly enough, they have a "James Morrison" model, which is much more in a traditional style. Thanks for the lead.
I would like to ask Joe what was his thinking about doing this solo on this song: Also, I like Joe's suit above everything else. Why not. What a terrific looking suit.
@@Stryke2wice the only thing "planned" is the tempo. the rest of it is improvised. So therefore, it's 100% improvised aside from it being a standard tune within the jazz idiom. Jazz musicians learn all of these standard tunes and show up to gigs with the goal to be able to play any tune that is called and communicate with the group based on how they play the melody and solo.
the most epic drum intro met with the most limp-wristed c-minus applause. wow it must be incredibly frustrating to be a jazz muscian. wtf is wrong with people!!!
Why jazz isn’t popular, example twelve trillion-starting a piece with a LONG drum solo. Yeah, he’s good, but it’s contempt for the public to go this route.
Why nobody talks about Joe Farnsworth the drummer of magical contribution of setting beats, amazing 😮
I've heard a lot of people talking about how nobody talks about him
@@Nn-uh2kb 😂 but of course everyone is talking about his sartorial elegance ;)
He made me think of Ed Thigpin style, if anyone knows?
10:04 a love supreme
2:44 pm est Newport RI. Looking good, too.
Philip Norris on bass is amazing. Just to give him a shout out.

James plays Schagerl trumpets. You can find more information on their website

The drummer!!!
Ive seen three of the four of these guys live all on separate occasions. I could only image what it is like to experience them all together in person
Brilliant!
Very cool!
Это огонь!❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Holy crap. Thats as good a jazz piano player as I've ever heard. Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Bud Powell....name it.
Usually I rewind drum solos. But that's not that🎉
👏👏👏Bravo

Let’s go
You can't make this shit up
And yet they did, on the spot
Actually thats what they're doing
Farnsworthy of respect.
Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi!
I like that Google has a "translate to English" suggestion on your comment.
Overwhelming❤ Amazing! Do you guys know exactly what you gonna play before? Or are some things improvised?
They likely have planned out the overall form of how they’re going to perform the piece, everything else is improvised.

@@BrettBernard I think you didn't understand my previous comment.
@@BrettBernard Even the tempo isn’t “planned”. Someone (either the soloist or the drummer) counts off the tempo and they go in!
Kevin Costner played the role of a drummer brilliantly.

Always knew there was more to Kevin Costner than his overlong Westerns, and being Whitney Houston's bodyguard. What a great drummer...

NOT TAYLOR SWIFT....THANK GOD
She was the warm-up act.
If Taylor Swift used that title, she stole it
Terrrrrrrrrific
