Thanks Dave …for me Topaz should completely forget about remove / add with Ai and concentrate on what they do and do best ..sharpening , denoising , scaling .
Photoshop all the way for the generative stuff
By the way there is a bug affecting lens blur in LR and TPai .. if you apply lens blur before TPAI then the returned image is not recognised . I have reported to Topaz
So pleased to see that they have embedded a suggestion I made which is to make ‘selection ‘ tool now show as ‘selection ‘
Denoising and sharpening was what I wanted from this program, but as perfect as possible. Photoshop and Lightroom do everything else better for me.
Thanks Dave for keeping us to date on all the changes with Photo AI!
I see that Topaz has aspirations of being a separate photo developing application. They don't update the individual apps they started with. And if they continue to push forward, good old Adobe will remain, along with DXO and its PureRaw. I have no reservations about the Photo AI application itself and I understand the need for further development and I even keep my fingers crossed for the entire team that they will succeed. Because the greater the selection on the market, the better the products of individual creators. Let's look at the last quick jump in Lightroom and Photoshop. Greetings from Poland, from the city of "Przemyśl Fortress".
A great video again Dave and thanks for posting this. I`m really excited to see how Topaz develop this. Like you I think we need a CTRL Z option and I look forward to seeing this when its the finished product.
I really enjoyed that video. Thank you.
Thank you very much!
Thanks for sharing. I have updated to this version. Seems like this can better be done with the remove tool in Photoshop.
But that’s a cloud tool. Not everyone has the rights to upload client pics to an ai cloud. This fills a void and also enables it to be used offline e.g. when on a cruise
Thanks for the update, Dave! but I don’t understand why Topaz did add this “feature”.
Thanks Dave, I always enjoy your videos. As I have commented previously I am not sure Topaz know where they are heading with this. I just want them to fix not being able to process Sony ARW files. This problem started around the upgrade to 2.0.0. I have sent sample images to Topaz and they have acknowledged the problem. My priority would be fixing what you’ve got before adding new beta stuff. Fortunately I can go the ARW>tif route and it works fine. Please Topaz fix as soon as you can. Dave I too hope they read your posts still. I had one Topaz person say she did. 😊
Looking I caught your video or I may never had experienced the remove tool. I tried it before watching your video to remove an object and stopped it because it was taking so long to render I thought there must be something wrong with it or my computer just wasn’t up to the task. I watched your video and you said it took 57 seconds to render on your machine so I thought maybe I was to impatient, not waiting long enough for the results. I tried it again today on a portrait picture I took of my daughter on the Brooklyn Bridge. If you know anything about the Brooklyn Bridge and foot traffic it is near impossible to get a shot without a bunch of strangers in the picture. I was blown away with the results. It took several minutes to render but; wow, was it worth it. This opens up a bunch of past pictures I passed on because of hectic backgrounds. Topaz never ceases to amaze me with their software. Thanks for the video.
Thanks again for the tutorial; you always do a fine job explaining things.
Like the color and light tools, this is a tool I will never even bother to test. When processing a RAW image there is a lot that I want to be able to accomplish, from toning to masked exposure compensation to color temperature to vibrancy. I need to crop and straighten. I often need to adjust contrast or white & black levels. I may need to selectively blur. And, yes, I may want to remove an object. To me it is pointless to do a couple of these steps in a crude manner without the ability to fine tune and in a way that will not allow me to export as a DNG. It’s far more logical to run the images through Photo AI for what it does best: noise and sharpening, with the occasional upscaling if I need to mega-crop. Then bring the resultant DNG into a “real” photo editor such as Photoshop Elements, Lightroom, Luminar Neo, ON-1, or whatever one’s preference is.
I know Topaz is trying to compete with the photo editors. But unless or until they can incorporate all the features of those software platforms, these beta releases are just novelties that people such as myself will simply ignore.
I prefer to edit my photos in Capture One first, then if I need to remove noise or sharpen than use Topaz AI as a last step and this works very well. I think, removing objects would works the same way (I have edited photo and as my last step I want to remove objects -> Topaz Photo AI).
Thanks!
Good job in doing this tutorial.... re "remove tool' meh for now; thank you for all you do in these tutorials.
Today was the first time I noticed the update when I had to edit a portrait today. And as luck would have it, I had some annoying things through glasses in the picture.
Here I tested the new remover and it implemented exactly what I wanted with the first use.I'm absolutely delighted with how great this works and I'm looking forward to the future. Under these circumstances I will expand my subscription directly :)
Unfortunately I can Unfortunately, I can't understand the people who always have to complain. Topaz provides us with a new tool that also works great, for which the developers deserve a lot of praise.
WE And if someone doesn't need it, then just ignores the button. Everyone else will love this tool. I'm curious and I hope there will be more tools in Photo Ai
As a committed Lr, LrC & PS user I can't see me using the remove feature. Does not mean that this isn't useful and looks good from your demo. Still use the sharpen and Denoise tools often.
I think the best way to use the remove tool at present is to either use it first (before any other processing), or after applying the processing and saving the image as a new file (and therefore not having to wait between strokes). This would also allow more control of the undo as long as you apply what you like before continuing.
I agree with you that a usable undo in the tool itself would be a huge improvement, but even if it existed, I still would separate the processing from the remove tool's use. Anything to minimize the brush lag. (I've found that overtaxing the system can make brush response unusable in any program.}
I recently did a job in Photoshop 2024 where the open size (working memory use) exceeded 44 gigabytes. The brush lag became horrible even using small and simple brushes on a mask, to the point where I thought the program had locked up. I had to walk away and see if it would finish the stroke, after about 10 minutes it recovered. I saved the file, then saved a simplified version, quit PS to clear the cache, opened the simple file and did my brush work, no problem.
As to the AI of the Remove Tool, I used it on an old photo of an arch on the pedestrian area of the Champs Elysees. There were people in front of the arch and inside the arches. I keep testing Gigapixel AI and Photo AI to see if I can get acceptable results on the tiny faces, but no! So, I tried the Remove Tool to remove the people. It did a really good job, continuing the path under and beyond the arch and lining the side of the path with trees. I'm not sure where it got the reference from but WOW.
Like the direction Photo AI is going ... should be pretty decent when it's developed a bit more.
Thanks Dave 👍
Deleting objects with AI is becoming popular. Photoshop, Luminar Neo and now Photo AI
Thanks Dave
I have used this feature a couple times in PhotoAI and found it similar to the Remove tool in Photoshop and much better than the Remove tool in Lightroom. When removing something from a high-definition photograph, Photoshop Generative Fill does a better job and does not "muddy" the remove section quite as much. This feature will hopefully be fine-tuned by both Adobe and Topaz. Most of my initial editing happens in Lightroom, then I use PhotoAI to tweak it further, and if I need to remove something, I use Photoshop. There is no Ctrl-Z with this - yet, so we'll have to wait and see. I think the problem is with resolution which probably needs more system resources on the computer.
I normally follow the other path. I make the modifications, delete or create objects, with Stable Diffusion that I have installed locally on my PC and then I use PAI to smooth or shrapen the parts that did not turn out very well when removing the objects since there is always a stain or a silhouette. With PAI there is no choice but to save the changes each time so as not to lose everything modified and have to do it again. With Stable Diffusion it works like this. Then load the last desired image and make the denoising and sharpen adjustments.
I have Luminar Neo as well as Topaz Photo AI. Luminar Neo has a new tool called Gen Erase. I have been hugely disappointed with the Luminar tool. I used it today to remove a very small detail and it did not do the job. I then watched this video (I didn't notice the new tool in Topaz) and tried the same photo with the Remove tool. OMG, it did a superior job compared to Luminar. I am a huge fan of both programs, but in the case Topaz reigns... thanks for the video.
Thanks for this. I do agree that an undo feature is needed, but I guess it's beta too/ :) I'm also curious as to which editor you use for video? I like that spin transition you are usiing. Thanks
Not great at the moment. Takes waaaay too long to process even on my fast gaming PC. Tried to remove a small car from an image and PAI replaced it with another car. Needs a lot more work.
That is AI 😂
It's been pretty good so far, and it is much better than Luminar Neo's genErase. I like that it is doing it locally
I don't know. I wish his Photo AI version was further along in development. Not excited about it... and I say this as a long-time Topaz supporter.
Thanks, Dave. My results have been mixed. Sometimes it’s great; sometimes it’s not. All to be expected with beta. The only frustration I’ve had is that the program can crash when using the Remove Tool on an image while batch processing. The crash closes the program and loses all the changes to the batched files. I’ve alerted Topaz to this possibility. My computer is a Mac Studio M2 Ultra, running Sonoma 14.0. I haven’t tried it yet on the updated Sonoma14.1. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
How fast is removing objects on your machine?
I think it depends on the number and complexity of objects to be removed. Last night, I removed 3 small objects from a jpeg and it took 25 seconds. @@mariuszjanosz5422
I think the new fine panel with all the great information ultimately will be replaced with a simple drop down menu. First select which category of image you want to edit, then in the sub menus specify the content, environment, persons, light, etc. - and finally press the Green button. Erase with the Red button or repeat with corrections. Ask yourself - do I feel creative? If you do - get help.
I tried the remove tool with an image that was a headshot of someone, with another person on the left partially in the pic and just sky in the backgroud above the two people. It removed the person on the left but inserted blurred building outlines instead of replicating the sky. There weren't even buildings in the pic. ???
Needs work. I tried removing power lines against a gray sky and 1) it didn't remove all of it and 2) its blotchy and very noticable.
I'm still on TAI 1.4.3 but rarely use it now as Pure Raw 3 is (for me) king of noise removal, and Photoshop is king for the remove tool and Gen fill/expand. It seems to me Topaz and Adobe are playing cat and mouse and I feel Adobe will always be ahead if Topaz merely copies Adobe's future developments.
The Remove Tool is as fast as a snail can race! Even on a speedy 13th Gen i9 with 64 GB DDR5 RAM.... ZZZzz. This is why you could not show the removal in REAL time. Not only slow, but often leaves other objects when completed, and trouble removing unwanted artifacts. Adobe Camera RAW editing is very speedy, yet Photoshop's remove tool is better effective, and best yet is its Generative Fill. TOPAZ PHOTO AI 2.1 is clearly the top contender for noise removal and sharpening.
Is this better than content aware fill in photoshop?
It is better than Content Aware Fill but it is very close to Photoshop's Generative Fill.
Hi... is this program with the latest Remove tool compatible with this MacOS: macOS Big Sur v 11.7.10; iMac 5k Retina Late 2014; Processor 4 QHZ Quad Core Intel Core 7; Memory 32GB 1600 MHZ-DDR3; Graphic- AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB? Enjoy your videos and dedication.....Thank you for you reply...... B
It is compatible with Mac OS. I am using Sonoma OS, I believe it will work with Big Sur but I am not 100% certain. You can reach out to Topaz to verify.
I have to pay $74 to renew my license for a remove tool? Photoshop has a great remove tool, so why should i upgrade?
I plan to buy a new PC (Apple or Windows?) In the next 3 months.
A Is the purchased code valid for both operating systems?
B can I buy the access code now, but only use it for the first time in 4 months?
I believe you get 2 seats when you purchase Photo Ai.
I'm lukewarm on Generative Fill adding new content anyway.
Well, the next tool for AI removal. I wouldn’t buy another 1 year update plan for $99 to get access to it. I think at least it's a feature which suits better in the range of the functionality of Topaz software, better than the lighting adjustments. Judging from the video I think it needs a few months of AI training to make it really useful.
The left side of the lady on the left's hair was flattened a bit.
"It's done a really nice job" 🤣
Who needs a remove tool when working with LR and PS? Same with color and light tool. Topaz is going to overload PhotoAI. Imo they are on a wrong track. They should concentrate on enhancing the basic three ideas: denoise, sharpening and and upscaling instead.
Fully agree
The world doesn't revolve around the Adobe sun: Many of us use other raw developers & editors.
I actually see it completely differently. Only today I had to edit a portrait photo. First cut and then scaled up because the pictured picture was taken a little further away. At the end there was the problem that the glasses had thrown some unwanted shadows etc. This was quickly fixed with the new Super Remover.
The result surprised me. Outstanding good quality. I tested the same problem in other software solutions out of interest and I have to say Topaz does excellently here.
And not everyone has Photoshop or other solutions. And if you don't need it, just ignore the button ;) I would recommend that you test this time is really a great extension :)
No need to bother with the Topaz Remove tool. Photoshop is still better and Generative AI is best of all for removal.
I do agree.
количеством воды в ролике можно напоить половину африканского континента...
Absolutely no idea where Topaz are going. Not a RAW processor and just adding gimmicks. Products I bought and paid for no longer supported and not replaced with new products. Noise, sharpen no better than Adobe or DXO, both of which have significantly more features. Charging more money for less (useful) capability doesn't seem to be a good business model. This feature is rubbish compared to PS and certainly is not going to convince me to renew my annual support. I can live without Topaz but not without Photoshop,
If Topaz think I'm paying another $200 to download this update, they can think again. I'll use photoshop thanks very much. Absolute joke! 🤬
I don't think they are charging an additional $200 if you already have the subscription. It's just a new feature in beta, which you don't have to use right now.
