These sort of prosecutions are an easy way for cops & prosecutors to make a couple of quick convictions, and get promoted. When the truth comes out, they will not be held accountable
plus, these prosecutors were under a lot of pressure too. 9/11 had recently happened, everyone was desperate to 'fight the war on terror'. toxic environment
It's the old "Something must be done!" mentality. With that mindset, you lose the ability to consider each option rationally, because you've effectively removed the option of inaction before even knowing the situation. When the option comes up to do "something", you've already decided.
Sitting here like, "2001 wasn't that long ago why is this a retro report?" Video was uploaded 12 years after the fact. I'm watching it 5 years after it was uploaded. God I feel old...
You're probably in your twenties or early thirties, you still have a lot of time ahead of you with plenty of strength left in you. Enjoy your time, work hard and limit the regrets :). You're not old!
an important lesson we've seen repeated ad nauseam. Paranoia when paired with Patriotism will always seek out the nearest weakest scape goat to villify and parade before an adoring public. Did you see how the media jumped on this and ran with it without any due diligence, all to get ratings, and now they sell it back to us once again as a horrible miscarriage of justice.
The unfortunate lesson here: Don't trust police. Don't answer their questions. Never consent to a search. Don't physically resist if they insist on it, but say explicitly that you do not consent. If you consent, an otherwise illegal search can become a legal search, and the evidence can go from illegal to legal.
I would say cooperate with law enforcement agencies as much as you can. Help them solve issues. The police has nothing to do with this case. This is just prosecutorial misconduct.
Somnolent You obviously don't know much about the Salem witch trials, but yeah sure... People get confused and angry when you mention the wors terrorism
"Nah I don't think we have to turn it over"?! The Brady disclosure and other common law practices require prosecutors to disclose any evidence that may be used against a defendant and any evidence that could exculpate them.
The prosecution and law enforcement did not make any mistakes in this matter. What they did was deliberate and knowing criminal activity. Everyone involved should be put on trial, those found to be incompetent need to be relieved of duty, those that had malicious intent in framing these innocent people should be publicly executed. There are few crimes greater than using public trust and police power to kidnap and abuse citizens.
I agree, albeit death isn't proper punishment. I'd put them in solitary confinement for the rest of their lives. Like a "Hell's waiting room" type deal.
“Lord, grant that I may be able in argument, Accurate in analysis, strict in study, Candid with clients and honest with adversaries. Sit with me at my desk and listen with me to my clients complaints, read with me in my library, And stand beside me in court, so that today I shall not, In order to win a point, lose my soul.” - St. Thomas Moore
I think the broader lesson is how the justice department thinks about crimes. Innocent people aren't going to ever become cooperating witnessed because they have nothing to cooperate with. It's why "coconspirator" evidence should be given so little credence. Your coconspirator is whoever you say it is or someone decides is. I can remember one murder conviction where the actual killer was told that he had to say someone was involved or his girlfriend was going to be arrested. The other person was completely involved, didn't even know him, and had witnessed that said he wasn't there. The actual murderer said multiple times he did it alone. All it took was the interpretation of the evidence by one "expert" who said there just have been two knives and suddenly he's on death row for years. That could happen to each and every person who watches this. "Go to jail for X number of years or tell us who you worked with and you get out sooner" and people are surprised that isn't reliable? Or even better "we will execute you if you don't say what we want", or "plead guilty and you can go home or spend a year waiting on lockup". The system is built on expediency not logic.
These poor guys. This is disgusting. Their vacation videos are terrorism plannings? The abuse they've suffered everyday after still because no one ever realized the allegations are false.
Remember the bigger the country the more corrupt it is? People have been talking about it now for almost 18 years . Remember people are always the victims or villians in there own government. Thanks for the lesson. Every country should be at fault.
11:04 I wish every law enforcement officer would reflect like this man before killing innocent people on the street. "We need to ask ourselves, "is it worth it...we were looking for the boogeyman.. A couple of deep breaths would have served everybody better "
The first Patriot Day wasn't the first Emergency Day. The first Emergency Day was September 11 (9-11) amidst the year of the advent of the original telephone (if they're in stock).
While what these prosecutors did was egregious, it does show the good in the American judicial system. In other countries if they want you convicted, no amount of evidence proving your innocence matters. So the fact that after receiving evidence that brought doubt upon the prosecution's case, the judge did the right thing and overturned their conviction. That's one positive thing I can take away from this story.
Unfortunately, the reason this is a story is because it's not common. How many immigrants have been railroaded in a similar manner and never exonerated?
We all know now about the 5 dancing Israelis. How we can think they are our ally goes beyond reason. What about the Lavon Affair/1954, USS Liberty/1967, The King David Hotel/1946 so many more after the King David, which killed 90 British officers. We need to choose our friends wisely.

Apparently, it's a grey area. There are no laws against it.
Still nothing.

Welcome to the US justice system, where you are guilty until proven innocent
Look at other countries justice systems then be happy u live in the US
