Government says it will assist with funeral expenses for Musician WESLEY CHIBAMBO, popularly known as DANDY KRAZY and the others that died in the accident.
Arts Permanent Secretary CHAMA FUMBA says Government is saddened with the tragic demise of CHIBAMBO, and will ensure that he is mourned in a peaceful manner.
In an interview with ZNBC news, Mr. FUMBA, who was a personal friend of CHIBAMBO, said he will be remembered for his contribution to the arts sector and his music that carried a lot of meaning.
Meanwhile, Artist BRIAN BWEMBYA, also known as B FLOW has advised musicians to remain united and pray for the bereaved family.
Zambian musician Wesley Chibambo, popularly known as Dandy Krazy, passed away on January 2, 2025, at the age of 47. He succumbed to injuries sustained in a severe road traffic accident on New Year's Eve along the Great North Road between Kabwe and Kapiri Mposhi. The accident claimed four lives on the spot, and despite undergoing emergency surgery at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Dandy Krazy could not recover.
President Hakainde Hichilema expressed profound sorrow over the loss, offering heartfelt condolences to Dandy Krazy's family, friends, and fans. He acknowledged the musician's significant impact on Zambian culture, noting that his music and charisma brought people together and transcended boundaries.
In light of Dandy Krazy's contributions to the nation's music scene, there have been calls to honor him with an official funeral. Dickson Jere, a prominent figure, suggested that the category of official funeral beneficiaries should be expanded to include individuals from academia, sports, arts, and music, recognizing their impact on society.
As of now, funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family. Dandy Krazy was renowned for his hit songs, including "Donchi Kubeba," which became an anthem during the 2011 general elections. His artistry and charisma left an indelible mark on Zambia's music scene, and he will be remembered as a unifying figure whose contributions will be cherished for generations.
