I kicked off with the GT Face Off set because of the cars and extra lane changer. Great starter set! Then just added and added whenever the packs were at the right price. Bull & Horse is another great set, probably the one I’d go with if I had to start all over again, or Start Your Engines. 😎🏁
When I first started I was dying for a triple car set like Spirit of Speed. With the experience I have now I'd go with start your engines. Screw buying all the shoulders.
I took your advice on this and then added the NASCAR set to it. Now I have shoulders, 4 wireless controllers a few lane switches and two 132 cars and two 124 cars, and good amount of track with power supplies for each to switch out back and forth. Gives me a spare CPU incase one goes bad.
Just a FYI on the Bull and Horse set. It actually is DTM. The rules for DTM changed to GT3 rules in 2021 (Which is what those Red Bull Ferrari cars are that are included in the set). Before that they were the much faster classic DTM cars we all know and love (like the ones in the DTM Speed Memories set). But unfortunately Audi and BMW pulled out of the series in 2020 and they had to basically reinvent the series to keep it from dying off. They decided to go with the GT3 rules like many other championships around the world, much to the chagrin of many DTM fans. But they really had no choice as the astronomical cost of the Class 1 rules were what pushed 2 of the 3 manufacturers to throw in the towel. GT3 cars are much more "affordable" (is anything in racing truly affordable? lol) to buy, run and maintain, so they went with that. It was a shame to see those monstrous cars go, but the GT3 cars race really well and the series seems to be on solid footing again after a few very shaky years. Great video, by the way. It's especially helpful for someone like me wanting to get into this hobby and starting from scratch. Thanks!
Went for the Race to Victory with Bull and Horse, added lane change set and hairpin, it's legendary. The Ferraris are fast, AMG was fast, now it just drifts. KTM slow, but fun drifter. A short spaghetti moment in the track, but nice long straights.
I had a couple of those Ferrari 488 GT3s which were included in an analogue Carrera Evolution Ferrari Trophy set. They were FAST, but most importantly tracked with stunning stability through corners. Transitioning into digital, buying a set triaged the most economic path. I went with the Digital 132 Wireless Bull and Horse set for A. the wireless, B the included crossover piece, and not least the Ferrari 488s (still the best looking Ferrari AFAIC) with their aesthetically stunning Red Bull and Alpha Tauri liveries.
Was able to get the Retro Grand Prix set (3 car) from a local store for $375 just before Christmas. Bought two 15' extender cables of ebay for the controllers as I don't like the lag in the wireless controllers and prefer longer cables.
I started with Spirit and DTM. I felt like that gave me the most cars and wireless and lane changes out of the box. Since added lots of everything but still very happy with my starter sets choice.
I know I did. I was leaning towards g towards the Bull and Horse but it was getting hard to find and then I thought about the shoulders which brought me to the Start Your Engines with some great looking 124 cars.
I'm looking to pick up one of these sets to start (or wait for a new one to drop) but i'm confused why the only S tier is a 124 set in a 132 tier list? I know the tracks are the same but wouldn't you then need to buy the two 1/32 cars as well on top of it all? I saw your video about the new sets coming out this year. Do you have one that you're thinking will be the new hotness? I will prob wait for that one, whichever it is!
I guess I forgot I had a 124 in the video when I made the title. Whoops! I'd go for a wireless set myself. If you want 124 racing just buy Full Speed. Any of the digital 132 wireless sets are great too.
Nice video! Looking into buying my first track I’m torn between, bull & horse or waiting for the new nascar one. Thoughts? I’m looking for a wireless new release, something future proof if that makes sense.
All the sets are pretty much the same. If the Nascar set comes with the new wireless controllers I'd wait. I'm pretty sure Bull and Horse has the old models.
Just be aware that the NASCAR cars do not have lights. I don’t know if that’s important to you or not. It’s realistic to how NASCAR really is but you may or may not like slot cars without lights.
i got the two sets, race to victory and bull and horse, the ferraris are fast but the orange and black xbow must saturn V f1 engines in it, as the thing is a mini rocket, in my video it came of the track and it just shot past the two ferraris, i had to work dounble hard to keep it from overtaking me in the mercedes, the xbow and ferraris were ghost cars, and they certainly do step on the gas..
@@Sundayslotcars Really?!!! Now I'm feeling REALLY lucky I chose to buy their Evolution Lap Contest set back in 2022. 2017 F1 Red Bull and Ferrari cars. Stunning looking cars. Now I've just bought a Digital 132 set, I'll have to buy a pair of 26740 chips for them ASAP. Do you know the reason Carrera stopped making 1/32 F1 cars? Popularity? Or was the brand licencing too expensive? IME I think they are more challenging as in harder to drive fast through corners than the touring style cars.
Thanks for the comparison. I would like your clarification and comparison on the different car performance characteristics that you kept referencing. It was hard to follow. Seemed you were focused on "lane changers". I would only do the comparison on the wireless versions since that seemed to me your preference. Thanks for the video.
Reviewing all of the cars would be expensive. If you're looking for slot car reviews Conquest Racing Club or MP slot cars are good channels to look up.
I am curious why you say the cars are unmatched in race to victory. I bought that set. I checked the builds and they are identical. Same everything except body and wheels.

Good to know! This might mean the end of the classic DTM cars.
Thanks for this. As a ill knowledgeable amateur when it comes to 'cage' racing, your concise explanation was AAA helpful.

It's a good year for wireless kits. It's hard for me to pick my favourite between the AMG or Red Bull cars.

Do you prefer the wired or wireless controllers?
@@Sundayslotcars definitely wireless. I have four plus two hardwired on an extension. Eventually will go all wireless.
Hi, se started with Spirit. 3 cars ✅ The second set which i liked was Classic retro!
Great job guys. Very helpful video
Thanks! We'll have an up to date one soon!
I just snagged the 1/24 start your engines. Def lovin it
I'll take that as you agreeing with our ranking :)

Good to hear some different views. Thanks for commenting
Awesome info
Glad we could help you.
where can one find those new style F-1 cars in a 1.32 size . thx for viewing my inquiry
You'll have to search another slot car company. Carrera no longer makes 1/32 formula 1 slot cars.

Excellent video. Ty.
This took forever to make so I'm very glad to get so many comments. Thank you for helping the video out.
@@Sundayslotcars y’all did great. It’s a very insightful video that clearly illustrates the pros and cons of each particular set.

Actually the chassis are different to fit the bodies and a longer wheel base on the X-Bow
The AMG is much better at cornering than the X-bow.
I want to but my first Carrera Digital 132 set. I see so many different ones, which one is best?
I would suggest checking out one of our latest videos called Carrera Digital Teir List.
Yes I have watched that and got good info, but what would be the top pick to buy now?
