Yep, the shirt and tie are very sweet, and a very noticable change of attire. I have very few heroes/heroines but there are a few people I'm sure I'd be silly in front of if I met them. My wife surprised me on my birthday a few years back with a couple of expensive tickets for a John Cleese event, I was a bit annoyed because I'm not particularly interested in him or in funding his divorces, we had a little row over her gift which, looking back, was quite embarrassing and I should have been more gracious. I would have thoroughly enjoyed to listen to Terry Jones or Michael Palin though. I gave the Cleese tickets to one of my kids and they went with a friend, they both enjoyed it. My wife doesn't try to surprise me with nice presents anymore :/
@@charlesbadoola535my step brothers wife surprised him with 2 tickets to see the stereophonics assuming she would be using the 2nd ticket...he took me 😂 they split up not long after 😂
I've just realised, that is extremely hypocritical on Gwyneth Paltrow's part. In real life, she won't go out with someone who knows all the words to Monty Python sketches but she will go out with someone who knows all the words to Coldplay songs.
Life of Brian changed my life. my dad insisted it was the first film we watched on our new VHS player. i was 9 and wanted to watch Clash of the titans so had the hump. by the end of the Film i had laughed so much it hurt. And Sir Michael Palin has been my hero ever since. i got my sense of humour from Life of Brian
This is just beautiful Richard. I had a big grin on my face watching this and it made me aware I havent felt quite this blissful for a long time. Years. Thankyou so much for making this happen. What you are doing with these interviews will stand the test of time (if we live on past the apocalypse), because you are documenting the lives of iconic public figures (and creative geniuses) of which there will never be their like again (as I'm sure you're aware, you should know what you're doing). Anyway, I liked it.
Congratulations, you did a great job meeting your hero. Is this the new bar for your past success that replaces "I used to be on TV"? "I interviewed Michael Palin" has a great ring to it!
Amazing. So erudite, comfortable and happy in his surroundings. It's a joy to see and listen to this man. I hope Richard got enough time with him to be satisfied and realise his dream - if that's even possible as I didn't want it to end myself.
He's my favourite Python too. Often playing the understated roles but he played them extremely well. While I would be happy to meet any Python (or would have when two were still with us), it was always Michael that I felt I'd get on with best if I knew them in real life. I love to quiz him on his travel shows.
All the Pythons were great, but I have to agree, there was something about Michael that always made him my favourite. He seemed to be able to play any sort of character, from the meek, put upon sort of guy, to a thoroughly nice person, to a spiv, to a nasty piece of work, and always seemed believable in whatever type of character he played.
Genuinely so happy for you! This looked like an amazing experience to be a part of “I admire this man” was at 1:13:30 if you want to play it on a loop!
This is fantastic a fantastic watch. Every time Michael gets an idea and riffs on it as if no-one's watching and suddenly he's three lines into a new sketch. This has to be the new best RHLSTP.
Well done Richard. Great guest and great interviewing skills. Your podcasts have helped me so much over the last few years. I have listened to every single one and then go back to old ones and enjoy em again ha. You and Adam Buxton are the best to do this imho. Cheers.
One of the nations greatest treasures. For all he has done and all the accolades he has received he remains one of the most genuine, humble and nicest people. The father, brother, uncle, friend or colleague we all dream of. Thanks for arranging Richard.
What's Richard got left to live for now that he's interviewed both Brian Blessed and Michael Palin. I mean, I know he's got a wife and child, but still.
I got a bit giddy when I read this, I've watched all his solo work this year. Nobody comes close to a travel show host as SIr Michael. I think it's because he talks about pooping sleeping and he can make anyone laugh, they don't even need to speak english.
Needs to be said how good Richard is at interviewing people...I know that being intelligent and funny helps the process but there is an art to making it enjoyable for the audience.
The Ripping Yarns episode where (Sir) Michael's character is told at length and repeatedly by a series of boring Northerners that HE'S utterly boring is one of the funniest things that I've ever seen. Marching up and down the square, and his part as the father of the bride in Holy Grail are also favourites of mine. He's got great hair.
