- Raft wasn't built to handle something going at this speed. Breaking this game is the most fun I've had playing games in a while. There's just so many way to break it and I can't wait to find bigger and better ways to do it.

14:39 from here on out the game can no longer properly calculate things with the distance due to floating point precision, so everything will start to bug out really hard because it has no idea what it is supposed to be

I'm honestly impressed that the game can even sort of actually process traveling the speed of light.
Recently I have been building the logs tracks in the forest . I have made one half the height of the mountain and so far it gets you all the way to the fertile lands by the little grouping of lean to's . Such a fun thing to do, the cannibals spawn and just run around like maniacs trying to figure out where the hell I am on the structure because on top of the first track I made a another platform the length of the original track. I will say placing them with cheats enabled is a billion times fast I'm not cutting 2000 pieces of wood.

you could try placing the tank with the fuel pipes towards the engine and see if it automatically fills all overlapping engines as long as you keep filling the main tank

Fun fact that is actually calculated math because im bored: DF reached 0,1% of real lightspeed in this video around 15th minute mark :)

The reason the models get messed up is because 3D engines use floating point numbers to represent coordinates in space. Normal integer values have a specific representable range, like 0-511 for example. It's trying to approximate a specific value into a 32/64 bit space, and as the number gets bigger, it loses precision, since it isn't exact. Losing a little precision isn't so bad, but when you lose too much, your models start to "crumple" like they do in the video, and eventually it loses so much that more weirdness occurs.
Edit: this will happen in ANY 3D game if you go too far in one direction, that's just a natural consequence of how computers work.

I think DF just simulated what happens when you go into a black hole.
According to part of Einstein's theory of relativity, casually ignoring the part where you can't exceed the speed of light, and the hypothesis that goes with it that exceeding the speed of light would cause time to go in reverse, I think that raft is somewhere in the neighborhood of a couple days ago by now
You actually went further than that; at one point, at 17:00, you hit 7.251 BILLION meters/second. That's over 24 times the speed of light!
All vehicles have considered and innate speed limits, for what is reasonably safe for the people aboard it and for the physical limitations of the craft.
But this is taking 'rattling apart' to a whole new level XD

Maybe next time you could hook your stacked engines up to a biofuel tank and pipes, then just pour a bunch of fuel into the tanks and pray it filters to all the engines stacked on one another.
With the engines place one then fuel etc then place on top and repeat so all engines even when stacked can run! It worked for me if I was very careful haha

Fun Fact: as you approach the speed of light the light that is coming towards you has it's wavelength shortened, similar to how a race care's engine noise sounds higher pitched as it approaches, the effect is called "Blue shift" so yeah Scientists already knew that the speed of light looked like a blue blur.
P.S. In DF's case though the blue shift would probably has shifted most visible light into high energy x-rays and turned his DNA into swiss cheese, Wiki "Demon Core" if you want to know how unpleasant THAT can be.
The effect is called the Doppler effect, blue shift is a result of that

The fact that anything is visible at lightspeed or above is baffling, as moving as fast as light makes it impossible to see anything directly behind you, and the faster you go the smaller your view range would be, but you will functionally always see a bit of where your going
The title should be: “Making a LIGHTSPEED raft in Raft” (btw the speed of light is like 300,000,000 is m/s)

What happened today is known as floating point persion error. The computer started to round when it should not have and rendered it wrong. The loss of detail in polygons such as the starring weed ment that the computer started rounding down what to display.
