Learned to surf in Ocean Beach NJ in 65 but I was a Eastern LI dude surfing Toby,,Gilgo and the Eastern end of LI ..Hamptons etc. Once able to drive I was headed south road trips to Hatteras and Florida Then west for 35 years. Bali Indonesia, Hawaii at 70 yrs old I still get pumped when I see East coast surf rise up to this size. I can remember freaking epic days in Shinnecock inlet surfing beautiful lefts inside the breakwall. Surfing is the absolute best sport there is in my opinion. Guys and girls enjoy every fucking moment in the ocean and on the waves. You will play them back in your mind forever! Peace out! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Love your comment Scott! My old man grew up in Neptune and Avon surfing whatever wherever it was from Asbury south to AC. He’s 77 now but still paddles out, shoulder willing, on calmer days. Just to feel it. He hasn’t seen this video yet but I can’t wait to hear his reaction. Awesome work Ryan!
Surfers living in warm climates don’t realize how difficult it is to surf with full wet suits , cold water and howling , offshore winds slowing your drop to the point where the wave is already closing over you and peeling so fast , you hope you can make it! I’ve surfed waves like these in Montauk and the outer bar at Ponquogue. My respect goes out to these guys.
This video needs to win an award or something. Seriously man...Never seen anything like it and I don't think we will ever see it again. congrats man. thank you for letting me NOT miss it.
Masterful piece of work here - 3:33 minute video, but felt like I was watching for hours. Amazing to see my home break go this mental. This video deserves a freaking oscar.
I’ve been surfing the east coast for 35 years. Mass to FLA and everywhere in between. This is the heaviest swell I’ve seen ever. It’s punching like Pipeline. Typical offshores, a little too strong, 15-20 as usual, but not terrible. Hats off guys. Even in my prime, not sure I would’ve paddled out.
I grew up at the Jersey Shore in the 60's and 70's and made surfing films featuring my late brother. Ryan, this short film is spectacular, emotional and beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
The epic and love for the energy of surfing is underpinned by select use of slow motion, excellent song and golden noir palette. Raw, regal and real.. Thank you to the riders and makers.
Incredible footage put together perfectly. Perhaps the largest shorebreak ridden on the East Coast. Contratulations to everyone involved in this production, and great respect to the crew that paddled out, and charged here. Stunning, epic performances by all. Hopefully there's much more footage to be released. Well done Ryan Mack, and thank you very much. C A
I grew up on the Jersey Shore in the 80s and surfed as a kid, shout out to Grogs Surf Shop and Brighton Beach SSP. Never in my life have a seen anything remotely close to those conditions. Hats off to the boys that paddled out and the cameraman and editor of this video are top notch! Lance Collins Wave Tools Rule! (:
My name is Craig , a former resident of Silverton , N.J. Currently, and for the past 11 years + , I live on the island of Oahu,Hawaii. The waves in N.J. are bigger than pipeline.Although , Jan & Feb, we slide down the monsters
Come on man.....first off....these waves are not 20 feet....they are 8-10 to 12 maybe a 15 foot set wave of the day. The camera angle drone makes it a bit deceiving. Second pipeline can and does get legit 25. I was 60's and 70's South Seaside Park Midway beach local, Casino Pier surfer.
Everything about this is perfect. I can't stop watching it. Congratulations to those who surfed it and filmed it. It is impossible to exaggerate the perfection of music to motion in this video. Excellent and Congratulations.
nice to see the surfing community finally giving some recognition to new jersey. It doesn't get this big often here, those who grew up surfing New Jersey know how to surf and aren't scared to surf big waves. Can't tell you the amount of times I've been in hawaii or so cal and when i tell people im from Jersey in the lineup or paddling out they 'ye always surprised or give a weird face impression especially during some swells
Absolutely mesmerizing!! music, photography, I've watched it like ten times... I've lived down the shore all my life... never saw anything like it... thank you...❤
Talk about for the love of surf. Them boys knew good and well they weren’t gonna make it out of any of those pits but they said fuck it and kept charging looking for that once in a lifetime wave. This is what surfing is about. I fucking love the east coast surf and cold water. Sick edit man keep killing it.
Just had my wife watch this video and she was amazed by the cinematography and choice of music put together so well. The sun, offshore whisps of spray and the timing of music was matched perfectly. Those sets were monsters. Glad those guys got to drop in and at least get barreled before judgment day. Oh what stories to tell! Peace out!
What y’all need to understand is this is beach break not even outer sand bars that develop in Hatteras or California…very fast and probably 2-3 feet of water in impact
Kudos, Ryan! This is phenomenal footage! Just incredibly done video. THIS is what makes the NJ shore so special. Most tourists never get to see the real, unexpected, NJ shore. Wishing you & everyone Happy Holidays & hope your New Year is safe, happy & fulfilling. Please keep these videos coming.
1:57...the guy knows where he's heading(we don't till the end)and he goes full spiritual!!! All my respect sir,Wow!!😮 Literally he was devour by the coming giant mouth!!!!
Absolutely epic! You nailed it! The shots the music everything! Perfectly encapsulates hysterical how magic that swell was! I haven’t seen waves like that since Sandy, and I personally think this swell was a little gnarlier or maybe I’m just older and appreciate it more…
Awesome work Ryan! I still can’t believe what went down on Monday. Were you out taking water shots? Mad respect for all those in the water that afternoon! So freaking sick!
Unbelievable and incredible-The surfers were amazing and the videography superb. Huge props to everyone, especially those bad asses charging and killing it with the boards. 🤙🏻
Great footage, great video. It's a bummer how many people feel the need to talk shit about the title but if I was an adult in New Mexico that can't swim I'd probably be bitter too. Thanks for posting and much respect from SoCal.
I just need to take a minute to appreciate the sheer magnitude of the cinematography and music choice of this video. This gave me goosebumps.
