This will be my new reference video for capture clips. I am often asked how it fits on our packs and this a perfect showcase. Thanks Brent. Location looked dreamy.
Hey Brent...it's the Florida guy. It was cool bumping into you and your family the parking lot. I thought you might be working so I didn't want to delay you, the light never waits. The clip looks great, the one I use is on its own harness, which gets hot with a backpack. Love the blue light photos, I didn't get any, was concerned about the coming darkness.
Lived in New Mexico my entire life I think it’s time to make the trip down south. Thank you for all of the info on the mount I’ll have to try one out soon.
The dunes are amazing. Been there once but didn’t get far beyond the visitors center. You really let us see what the dunes have to offer. The Peak camera clip was, and still is, on my Christmas list. Thanks, Mike
Haha, I love how you waited till the end about giving away the Peak design. I was actually just looking at that model or the other model that goes around your belt. I think if you put it on your belt it would be bouncing off your leg constantly. So I think the model you are using would be better, and I’m glad you used the 100 to 500 because I have the 100-400. At least I know it can hold the weight!
Brent White Sands looks like a fun place to shoot. The PD clip also looks like a good alternative to the cameras strap, would love to have one. thank you for all you do.
Spectacular Area, long zoom adds immensely to opportunities. Good to know that the Peak Design Capture works, it's on my list for Wyoming/Montana hiking in June - unless...
Thanks for the video, Brent. I used to surf those dunes in my younger years - we used to make surf boards out of 1x6s, bend the ends up and cover the bottom with formica. And we waxed with paraffin. It was a rush. Awesome shots. And thanks for the review on the Peak Design clip. I have looked at some of their other straps, but hadn't seen the clips before.
White Sands is high on my Bucket List for many years. Now that I'm fully vaccinated, too, and with hope for a positive change, maybe before I know it the motorcycle I got yesterday can be loaded up and pointed West (which I thought I'd be doing in 2020). Capture clip looks useful, so I'll throw my name into the hat. I always enjoy your vids.
@@BrentHall TY! I walk/hike with a weight vest and my camera & I'm looking for a way to carry the camera more easily. The capture clip looks like a possible solution.
When I first started getting the ads for the carry system you have on, I laughed and told a buddy it would make me look like an old west gunslinger. Now I realize it makes total sense with the weight distribution and.... I WANT ONE ! 👍😄
I got my own Canon R6 and also the RF 100-500 yesterday and I was looking at also buying the Capture. Your video has persuaded me to buy one (unless, of course, I win one!).
Thanks so much for sharing your experience at White Sands and the use of the Peak Design Capture Clip V3. I have been looking for something like this and less complicated than the Cotton Carrier. Keep up the great work!
I was surprised to hear that you never had one before with all the hiking you do. I have had the V3 for a year now and it's amazing! Hands free is the way to go. Especially with all the hiking I do searching for birds and wildlife. If I get randomly picked give it to someone else.
Thanks for the videos Brent! I've always carried my camera around with a Peak Design wrist strap but it would be really nice to free my hands up once in a while.
Spectacular shots. You have a great eye for the environment and the dynamics of all the players in your shots. It feels like you are part of the places you show us, rather than just at the places. Not sure if this makes any sense but Thank You and your family for doing what you do. Peace.🌄
Gimme da clip-uh! (Some will understand the reference). I'm following you here and on Instagram long before this video. Great job man and I love your tutorials. I've gotten crazy good bird photos thanks to them keep it up
Looks like a stunning location Brent, great atmospheric, inspirational shots, that clip looks good, I normally hand hold my R6 and 100 to 400, you soon start to feel it, like you I have aches and pains so will investigate getting one. Shumai.
Really enjoyed this video at White Sands but I enjoy all your videos. So awesome that you shared your thoughts about the peak design clip at this time because I was online looking at them just a couple days ago.
Enjoyed the video! It's nice to see the various equipment available... and your location (which is quite different from here in Minnesota). I'll finally be getting my 100-500 tomorrow, after a 6 week backorder wait.
Spent a few hours at White Sands last October. Loved it. The clip looks amazing. With my back issues I can’t carry much in a back pack so this might be an option.
Great video!! Just bought the R5 waiting for the RF 100/500. Would love to have the Peak Design capture clip for all the hiking I do. Thanks for all your great content!.
Another great video. I was curious if you could test out the 100-500mm lens for astrophotography! I am debating this lens, but the aperture range is making me think twice. Seems like White Sands would be a great spot for astro and star trail pictures!
Hey - quick question. I have a 200 600mm, would placing the clip in the body put a lot of stress on the mount? It's not like a tripod, where there's a vertical stress. This one is in line with the body and lens weight. Thanks!
oh, idk about that. I've never used that lens before, but I think it's heavier than the rf 100-500, so I'm not sure if/how it would work. As far as the mount stress, It would be very similar to carrying the camera with lens attached in your hand and letting it hang down. Same stress plane. Personally, I've never had an issue carrying a camera like that and letting it hang down with a heavier lens attached.
White Sands is absolutely incredible! I will never get tired of photographing there. Since this video, I have bought more capture clips and now have one on every bag I own, or at least use often, which is quite a few.
Brent- I love White Sands almost as much as you, and would match your enthusiasm if I didn’t live all the way in Tennessee rather than Silver City! Keep up the videos, I love watching them, thanks.
So I do still have it, and I do still use it every day. I would say I'm mostly happy with it's performance and integrity. There are a couple of design choices I've come to question over the years, and I'm considering switching to the falcam system because they seemed to have fixed those issues I have with the PD. Mostly I have a problem with the PD being too narrow to fit comfortably/easily on to most backpack straps, so really really really hate switching it from bag to bag. I hate it so much that I'd rather just buy a new one every time I get a new bag...so this system has ended up costing me a lot more in the long run...because I have a lot of bags, lol. I don't like the screws on the PD, they tend to slowly come loose over time and I always have to remember to re-tighten them, but I've never had one come all the way out. Other than that, I still think it's a solid system, but I will probably switch to the falcam at some point here soon. When I do, I'll definitely make a video about it.
Hi Brent, nice and chill video as always. I might need one of these as I do a lot of hiking, it's always a pain to have a camera around the neck bouncing at every step !
dunno if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my gf for the last few days =)
The quick release from Moment looks like a good option for me. I occasionally am on an atv and this clip will allow me to have my camera on the ready quickly.
Love Peak Design products. I'm planning a trip through moab arches and grand canyon. How do you plan for trips for photography? Google Earth? Photo Pills? What lenses to bring? Would love to hear how you plan for trips.
Thanks for sharing the new video! The Peak Capture clip looks kind of cool. Got my 100-500 last week and I'm loving it so far (still looking forward to your review on it). Take care!

So I have just this weekend bought the same bag and peak design clip. But I have the PD clip on my camera, and attached a cord to a loop above the clip and attach that first to the camera and then clip in....I would hate to ever drop my camera!
Great video as usual! Would love this Capture Clip from Peak Design to more easily carry around my R6+70-200 on upcoming summer hikes I’m planning to do down here in the Swiss Alps!
I have always been nervous about mounting my big lenses supported off the camera body. Just bought a capture clip hoping for the same luck with my 100-400, doubt the 200-600 would be too kind to my lens mount. (Sony user 100-400GM and 200-600G)
That waffle looks good. If you draw my name can you send me that instead? Although, that clip would be awesome too. Keep making your great videos. Love to see them.
Have you tried any of the cotton carry stuff? I have been using them for my camera while hiking and like it quite a bit, but when I put my Tamron 150-600 on their system it stacks plates too much and moves the weight so far from my body that it is quite cumbersome. I like that this system is compatible with tripod mount natively.
The only thing I've tried of theirs is the Skout (I made a video about it a few years ago now). I haven't tried their backpack carry mount or their bigger chest mount.
Thank you for an interesting view of someone using the capture clip. I have hesitated about it because of the threat of smashing camera if I were to fall forward. Another concern is having the 3 pound 100-500 lens off the RF mount on the camera. Is it possible that you could deform or damage the mount over time? What are your thoughts? I would be interested in getting the Peak Design Capture Clip
I don't think it presents any more stress on the mount than if you were hanging it around your neck or shoulder from a regular strap. It seems pretty solid to me so far. I might be a little hesitant to try it with a big ef lens on an adapter though.
@@BrentHall I agree that it would be a bad idea with a 600 f4 for instance. But on the fence about the 100-500. Have you tried using the tripod mount instead?
Reminds me a bit of Cotton Carrier only maybe better. But it still immediately made me think of how would I be able to use my binoculars? the Cotton Carrier made bins very hard to use and this thing here looks just as bad, just in a different way. However, I am reminded that you often do not bring your bins with you when you are photographing. I could never be without my binoculars. I use them WITH my cameras.
I was/am a little concerned about that. I probably wouldn't do it with like a 100-400 and an adapter on the mirrorless, but I feel like the native mount on the 1-5 will be alright. You could put it on the lens tripod collar, but I didn't try that because I felt like it would be too high up and stick out a bit.
@@BrentHall that makes sense! I was thinking that if attached to the foot of the lens maybe the camera would wobble a lot while walking. If you can test this I’d like to know. Thanks!
I haven't noticed anything too severe like that. I've had maybe some minor soreness after long hikes with it, but usually, especially for shorter hikes I haven't had any comfort problems. That's just me though.
