Messi's had insane footballing iq from the womb. When you look at videos from messi at 7 yo it looks the same as he was at his peak. He's gifted with something noone's ever had. Ronaldo was obviously talented but he HAD to train all of his skill moves in order to remotely come close to messi dribbling wise. His moves are pure hard work day after day whereas messi is basically on autopilot and sees everything instinctively. Messi's defo the more talented and better player but ronaldo will always be my goat for his work ethic and mindset and is imo the greatest footballer ever athleticism wise. Also I'm portuguese and this mf made portugal into a footballing nation but u have to remember that they barely qualified for world cups before ronaldo played (only 3) this guy put us on the map AND won us our first ever trophies
Kids play the same way Messi did at 7 years old. They generally don’t have strength and technique, but they love to run and dribble. Messi’s body wasn’t growing not just in height, but also muscle mass, so he stuck with dribbling. He worked hard to become a master at dribbling to stay on field and fight for a starting position. He didn’t get treatment until he was 12 and he only grew a few inches.
And he dealt with the most brutal tackles his entire life as a consequence of becoming the greatest dribbler. That takes mental strength. I’m tired of people downplaying his winning mentality.

For me CR7 is the real goat. He's never stayed in his comfort zone. Messi is a great player, but he'll never be able to play in 5 different leagues like CR7. Just look at PSG: he no longer had the ease of playing with a team built on tiki taka system that allowed him to deploy his full potential. CR7 doesn't need that. Winning a World Cup with Argentina is a lot easier than winning trophies with the Portuguese national team.
He didn't have the system, but you can't say he didn't play great still, especially considering the fact he still ended up winning the most MOTM on the team. People only say he didn't play well because he didn't score much, but they don't take into account that he was playing as a CAM meant to feed Mbappe the balls to score. I mean this was the first time in his career that Messi was registrating more assists than goals on a team, he even broke the assist ratio record in the league with the only one above 50% ratio, and he had never done this before in his career because he was more attacking outside PSG.

The reason why you think Ronaldo is better is because he is more flashy, but Messi is way more effective. Ronaldo does so many tricks to beat 1 player but why Messi is better is that he doesn't need to do any tricks to beat a defender. Messi is also a better passer, has higher football IQ, better in tight spaces, better free kick shooter. Ronaldo has some weaknesses in his game, he is a high volume shooter, not great in tight spaces, just a decent passer. Messi is not just good in every one of these aspects, but arguably the best ever in each one of them. The only part of offensive play which Ronaldo is better at is heading (and off-ball movement), and Messi still scores as much as Ronaldo without heading. Ronaldo was an exciting young talent, but when Messi was 19 people knew they were witnessing a once in a century talent.
I would recommend watching Pele and Maradona highlights (the 2 GOATS before Messi and and Ronaldo) if you wanna know what the greats played like 👍
