In this quick guide, Risk Bites takes a look at how new technologies are radically changing our world and leading to what the World Economic Forum calls a "fourth industrial revolution", and the unique challenges and opportunities that we're facing as a result.

Professor Andrew Maynard is a scientist, author, and leading expert on risk and the ethical and socially responsible development and use of new technologies. He is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, serves as co-chair of the Institute for the Advancement of Nutrition and Food Science (IAFNS) Board of Trustees, is a member of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research President’s Research Council, has served on a number of National Academies of Sciences committees, and has testified before congressional committees on several occasions.
As well as producing Risk Bites, Andrew’s work has appeared in publications ranging from The Washington Post and Scientific American, to Slate, Salon, and OneZero. He co-hosts the podcasts Mission: Interplanetary and Future Rising, and is the author of the books Films from the Future: The Technology and Morality of Sci-Fi Movies, and Future Rising: A Journey from the Past to the Edge of Tomorrow.
Andrew received his PhD in aerosol dynamics from the University of Cambridge in 1993, and is currently a professor in the Arizona State University School for the Future of Innovation in Society, and an Associate Dean in the ASU College of Global Futures.

I love how this stuff is always presented as if humans will use it nobly.
It's almost bordering on 1950s sci fi voice where the narrator has the "super hero" tone. All the movies had cities that were shiny and clean and with optimistic people working hard to make a better future for everyone. Contrast it to 1980s movies like escape from new york, terminator, robocop, and blade runner where everything is dark and smokey and corruption is everywhere...it is almost nostalgiac to see. Everyone will be shitting rainbows and using synthetic snakes as their pets to solve problems. Not spiritual enlightenment or putting a cap on greediness or selfish behavior.
I don't see the problem, it's the pre-prepared plan of a German Economist in response to a Global crisis. When has that ever gone wrong?

This is good but it is also a more sensational description of what the 4th industrial revolution is. I definitely wouldn't park the research here!
Due to this many will lose jobs. In fact, in India many companies have minimised the labour force. And moved towards automation. So, in coming years, I think there will be social war where one will fight for survival and other side will fight for money. Because this automation will mostly benefit the manufacturer.

the answer is the UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME. problem is, if you don;t comply with their rules, no money will be given to you..... for example, you are not vaccinated every year? ok sorry, no money until you come and show us your vaccine pass. this is already happening. In Italy you get fined if you don't get vaccinated, you loose your job, you can not participate in society. If we don't fight this, we will be doomed! The whole concept of "cyberspace" being a separate dimension is interesting. If an AI exists in cyberspace, where it is basically God, why would it be interested in our dimension where it cannot simply edit code to change reality? Would it care whether the world it inhabits is "physical" or not? Why waste time on our dimension when it can do whatever it wants in cyberspace? What if the universe we live in is just a cyberspace and we are just AIs that inhabit it?
This makes more sense if you think of dimensions as complimentary -- each additional dimension magnifies what you can achieve, and each dimension you do not or can not operate in diminishes what you can achieve. And so no-one would say because I can move up and down I don't need to move left and right. This could easily manifest itself with AI in manipulating the physical world to sustain its existence and achieve goals associated with cyber space -- like ensuring ready access to power and operating substrates.
One question, does it seems intuitively possible to you?
Has anyone here given any thought to the triune God who foretold all of this in scripture thousands of years ago? I love how men think they are so smart when they figure out what God created. Keep thinking about that.

In my small opinion some things discussed in this video are a bit frightening, like doing things responsibly with the new technology? I end up thinking, about what happened after gunpowder and the splitting of the atom two technologies one that lead to another. Millions enslaved and slaughtered in the process I'm not sure if that is progress if we do meet aliens from another part of our Milky Way Galaxy because of the fourth Industrial revolution those aliens better be very good at violence not peaceful or they'll end up like the Tasmanians. By that time I fear half the planet will be gone and I mean the humans with high fertility with no means of defending themselves against the future onslaught planned for them or maybe A.I. thinks "bollocks I'll get rid of the lot of em!"

@Tacos Die hard Thanks for this. I hadn’t made the connection between Klaus and 5G. In his books he says he wants social distancing to carry on into the future, because it promotes automation. He also wants us to live as if we are in lockdown till 2030. From what I can see the plan is to roll out a new virus fear in January next year called Covid 21 and have more severe lockdowns using the military as well as isolation units for people deemed to be serious health risks. This will include me as I won’t have a vaccine. I don’t trust it.
