    I agree with this. I move out if these when companies put me in them. Lower fees and higher returns when getting out of them

    Unfortunately I learned this a decade late. Not sure what to do with the funds instead.

      High fees and total return is nominal compared to a basket of index funds. Thanks for watching!

      @@yourfinancialekg OK, I agree that the S&P 500 Index Fund is a better route to go than the target date fund. I was surprised to see the target date fund fees as high as they are.

    Please explain why they are bad. I laddered into them, I.e 20% 2025, 20% 2030, 20% 2040 etc.

      Fees are higher and the performance of the funds are not comparable to a basket of index funds linked to your risk tolerance

    Can you please elaborate as to why you're saying this? I have one of these (TRRJX) in my 457 plan and it seems to do fine. I don't understand why you're saying that this is the worst thing that I can have in my 457 plan?

    • @yourfinancialekg
      @yourfinancialekg  3 місяці тому +3

      TRRJX: expense ratio is .59 and current YTD return is 3.5%. Market return is 7.8%. If you are 11 years out from retirement, the 2035 is not allowing you the kind of growth you need for a 11 year window. Underperformance is a big problem with TDF's. A comparable basket of index funds would have lower fees and closer return to where you are in your working cycle. Good question!

  • @johngill2853
    @johngill2853 3 місяці тому +1

    Recent bias
    They have international diversification and that hasn't worked out for the last 10 years. If you would have went back 12 years you would have been happy.

    Drew, long time follower here… just curious as to why you say it’s the worst? Basing off performance and RoR? Just curious to know why.

    • @yourfinancialekg
      @yourfinancialekg  3 місяці тому +1

      Fees and ROR is not consistent with the time horizon of the funds

    'They're the worst investment because I said so'? Lame video, Drew. I've recommended target date funds as an option for people in 401k's who have zero interest in understanding investing.

    • @yourfinancialekg
      @yourfinancialekg  2 місяці тому +1

      Not lame. Why would you recommend them? Why not just a simple S&P fund?
