As a trained color and body style consultant, I believe this is the reason you should have a color analysis because it will determine your best colors but you will also receive a package of swatches that will determine what intensity in those colors look best on you. It makes shopping and putting together an outfit so much easier.
I agree. I can’t tell you the difference my color analysis has made for me. It does make putting outfits together so much easier. I’m confused about the colors this channel shows. Some bright, some soft, some cool, some warm. Nobody can wear all those colors well.
Actually I have neutral undertones so I can in fact wear a wide range of colors. But also I share things for the benefit of my viewers, not just for myself.
@@suegarner4428 you can get this done online. Christie Ressel is an amazing stylist that has online courses. Very affordable too! She has a UA-cam channel amd is on Instagram. She has multiple courses. She is amazing!!
I would love to see a you tube Bible study on growing old gracefully. Even just one episode. I love your fashion advice but I find I am picking up little tips on kindness and such. Great job!
When I first watched the video and listened to Kay talking about high and low contrast, and the different levels of intensity, I was thoroughly confused. None of it made any sense to me. Until Several days later when I put on a pale pink sweatshirt, all of a sudden - the light dawned! I finally understood why this top in a color that I love, was so bland on me. With an East Asian background, my dark hair and fair/medium complexion created high contrast. This sweatshirt with a low intensity color looked washed out on me. So I added a scarf to create some contrast and now the outfit fell into place and looked great. Thank you, Kay. I have learned so much rom you and other UA-camrs.
You have explained this intensity factor before, but I must say since you explained it again, I understand the factor better. Thank you for going over this again. There is a lot of things to remember. Have a blessed day.
This makes clear something I have noticed. My hair and eyes are very dark. My skin is light. I noticed I look best in high intensity colors but wasn’t sure why. Thanks 💕
Omg this makes so much sense, Kay thank you. That's why I look and feel best when I wear EITHER High contrast, black pants, and white shirt, and/or bright colors, OR all light contrast, light washed jeans and light shirt and sweater. I don't look good at all in any medium intensity. Totally washed out. In life too: I either like going inward, meditating, OR create dynamically in activity. The in between doesn't really thrill me. So interesting. Wow. Thank you Kay!
My coloring is similar to yours. Last Sunday I was the reader at our church and wore a bright read turtleneck. When I just looked back on the youtube recording of that service I was astounded at how that red sweater really flattered me and actually gave definition to my coloring and facial features. Good tips!
This was SO interesting, Kay! I find that I have been doing some of it instinctively, but it was VERY helpful to finally have a principle behind what I try to do. This also explains why I often need to tweak my wardrobe as I change the color of my hair... haha.
Now to wrap my mind around that concept! I have noticed that colors look different on me than when I had brunette colored hair. Now that I am graying. I used to look good in jet black, but now I look washed out. great video as yours always are.
What if you changed your lipstick to one with a little more intensity? Actually my style icon is a woman who lived on my street years ago; she always wore black and it looked amazing with her pale skin and white hair.
This is such an interesting topic... I'm going to be watching it again because my mind was going a mile a minute trying to visualize my closet and how I've been dressing. I can see how this makes a difference. This also throws hair color into the mix... something else I need to consider. A lot to digest, so I'll be watching again!
Very interesting & a great explanation. Probley explains why I like the more muted colors & soft pinks & blues. NOW, I am going to date myself here & show my age but does anyone remember from the early 80's the at home programs called Color ME Beautiful? You were categorized as a season based on your skin tones & eye colors. For example, I am a Spring therefore I look best in Spring kind of colors. The program actually said I should not wear white but rather Ivory. I tend to disagree with that I have the golden blonde hair & feel that the ivory matches me to much & washes me out. I prefer white instead.
I first became aware of intensity contrast when I subscribed and read your tutorial. Tried it, got compliments. This is a GREAT reminder about contrast of intensity. I am low contrast: fair skin, white-grey hair, light green eyes. So low CONTRAST looks good on me. That can be an outfit of light colors, dark colors, medium colors, saturated colors, muted colors. But no mixing of them. Since black and white are both intense, they are low intensity contrast, and I can wear them. It is hard to think of black and white as low contrast!
Outstanding presentation! I have never heard this topic discussed before in such detail. I’m looking forward to experimenting with items in my closet. Congratulations on your 100 thousand subscribers! You bring such high quality content to us with so much joy.
I have just discovered your channel, Kay, and really enjoyed this presentation. The idea of intensity level is brand new to me. I’m going to watch again and research your channel for more helpful tips on how to build a good basic wardrobe. Thank you for sharing!
Very interesting concept! Thanks so much for sharing this! I love having these kinds of tools for making better choices. Congrats on your follower numbers!
I think this was something I was picking up on subliminally, but couldn’t quite figure out. I have low contrast between my features. So many times I have tried to wear a white shirt with dark jeans, and wondered how it could possibly not match. I always change to a lighter wash jean or a darker top. Thanks for solving the mystery.
This is very helpful! Like you said, it explains why some days I’ve noticed my outfit just looked better. The tips you gave about proportions was also very helpful. Thank you Kay.
You know your stuff Kay! But some changes have happened in my personal appearance. Haven't had hair hilighted in 6months. So I don't care alot like I used too. But love your videos and you!
Wow, this was amazing and explains so much. I have high contrast colouring and have always gravitated towards high contrast colours in clothing but I didn’t understand why until now.
Thank you! This was so helpful. As a “winter” I was always comfortable wearing dark intensity but have noticed that as my hair has become more grey and my skin isn’t as dark as it used to be (still olive, but just not as dark), and even my eyes are lighter, I love wearing the mid tones. Still no baby blue or pink for me, but loving all the mid ranges. Thank you for explaining the why.
Kaye this is a great tutorial on intensity. I will use this guidance as I put outfits together going forward! Love your channel. I look forward to Wednesday morning as I enjoy my breakfast while visiting with you! Margi in Phoenix
As an autumn, even though my skin is very light, my eyes are dark green and my hair is auburn. Now it makes sense why I look best in medium-dark olive top and khaki pants!
Thank-you, Kay, for this video!! This is all new, and needed, info! Let my hair go gray during Covid and am trying to figure out what colors look good with the new ‘me’! Now I will consider contrast to help me redo my wardrobe choices! Thank you for all you do and share. Sometimes this ‘getting older with grace’ feels a bit lonely but your voice encourages me! Wish I could have a cup of coffee with you! Have a beautiful day❤️
Years ago I did a Color Me Beautiful consultation. It broke coloring down into seasons and was easy to learn. I follow its principles, and it makes a real difference for me.
You did such a good job of explaining this and providing helpful examples. I've heard this topic spoken of before but I think you demonstrated it better!
I was confused at first but your explanation was spot on. I will watch the blog posts just to reiterate contrast intensity in my mind. Thanks for the great information. Melissa 🌼
Another winner video and tips. Going to check out the closet for medium intensity. I asked my husband what he thought I was. Not much help, he said remember I'm color blind. 😂
Actually, being colorblind might help because he isn't influenced by color, just by light vs dark. It should be easier to determine high contrast vs low contrast.
Bonjour Kay 😉 I agree with all these tips. But sometimes, we have a relationship, a kind of connection with the colors . For example, one morning you want to wear red even it’s not one of your favorite colors. It gives you strength or joy that morning. Do you understand me ? It’ s amazing isn’t it? Relationship with colors is a fascinating subject. Thank you Kay for your vidéos.🌸
😊. Enjoyed the video. I have mousey brown/gray hair, blue eyes, pale skin. Don't think I am into any particular category. As I've gotten older, I've noticed I no longer enjoy wearing red (have never worn yellow or green). Are beige and other low intensity colors my future?? (Blue seems to work.). Do others on this blog have the same problem?
Good Morning Kay! Loved your video today! I have never ever thought about intensity before. It has given me a whole new perspective on make-up, hair color and the outfits I wear! Thank you for this insight! Have a wonderful day.
Love your encouragement to be the best we can be inside and out. I love the olive green midi skirt shown in one of the contrast examples…do you have a source for it?
Now I understand why I look horrible in black or white tops and pastels. I'm very low contrast, blonde eyebrows, eyelashes, graying- strawberry blonde, faded freckles, medium green eyes. I've never heard this before either, thank you! Navy is my black. I have learned so much from watching your videos. Does this come natural to you, or did you go to school to learn this?
This was very informative. I just try to wear colors that I think look good with my coloring. Now I get it. I can’t wear some colors anymore since my hair color is changing from darker brown to gray. I bought a green hoodie to wear out with my dogs. It just doesn’t look great on me. I’m going to keep wearing it. My dogs don’t care what I look like. But I will never wear it out in public.
I am going to have to share this video with my daughter. In my minds eye I am high intensity, but being colourblind I am left guessing. I cannot wait to share this and do a little investigating in my own closet. Thank you Kay!
Thanks Kay! I have to wear scrubs during work so I appreciate your tips, because I feel lost as far as my fashion when its the weekend or vacation time. Glad I found you!
Interesting concept, I will try to put together a few outfits based on this. I wonder if my low intensity colouring is he reason I love monochrome, especially neutral monochrome.
I have always thought that low contrast outfits look more refined, generally. High contrast outfits can be very elegant, but it's more difficult to achieve a refined look, I've observed. Some people have a talent for putting together high contrast, elegant outfits, so it can be done; I'm just saying that with low contrast outfits, it's easier to achieve a refined, elegant look. Low contrast outfits are also easier for us short people because we look taller, slimmer, in low contrast tops and bottoms.
Examples of high-contrast elegance would be a beautiful white sweater with black trousers, but as a shorty, black with black is what I'm more likely to wear, or white with white or pale gray. For someone taller, I love the white sweater and black trouser look, and it's really hard to go wrong with a white or off-white sweater. It looks elegant with just about any neutral bottom that you put it with.
I so agree! I often cheat my way to elegance by wearing an all-cream or soft white outfit. I’m petite, not skinny, too, so a high contrast between top and bottom isn’t great. I like to keep the horizontal lines to a minimum to visually slim and lengthen my shape.🙂
Thank you Kay, I always enjoy your videos. In the CMB profile I’m a soft, so I think blended low intensity is right for me? But what a bout a pop of colour which I love, perhaps earrings, handbag, shoes, lipstick? What do you think about scarf colour and necklace, blended or contrast? 🙏
I’d add the pop of color away from your face, maybe in shoes, handbag or belt. For scarves I’d choose ones that also have a lower contrast. But remember that doesn’t mean they have to to be light only.
You look so beautiful in that shade of pink sweater, the earrings and lipstick. Just lovely. Good info. Before I started watching your videos I had no idea this idea of intensity even existed. Yes, it makes sense!
Hi Kay, all of your videos are very informative and I enjoy them all. This one about color intensity made me understand why some outfits won’t work on me. Here is my question, as a younger women I had medium to dark brown hair, a very pale skin and light blue/grey eyes. Now over 60 my hair is white/grey color. To determine my intensity do I go with my old self or my current one? Thank you for taking the time to make those great videos.
So informative. I have natural medium brown hair with some red pigmentation in it. Now it is medium brown with mahogony. My eyes are medium brown with gold flecks and skintone tone is medium to light with olive undertone peachy pink. Not sure what I am.
I think doing a video on the various body shapes would be helpful as well. Maybe some suggestions on what would suit each shape would be good. This was a fun video!
Thank you Kay. I so enjoy your presentations for women of a certain age and really for all age groups. I just purchased a Nordgreen watch and used your code. Love it! Thank you!
I have silver hair, fair skin and one medium brown and one dark blue eye. Mama said she marked when she’s was pregnant because she wanted a brown eyed doll for me. Fine, but I don’t know now what contrast this would be. Congratulations on the numbers. Wow!❤️
Finally, a clear explanation of why my brunette wardrobe is less suited to my now silver gray hair! Medium intensity is good for me, but low intensity is really best.
This is a new concept for me, but makes so much sense! I have strawberry blonde hair with fair skin and blue eyes. I’ve never felt good in high contrast outfits and never knew why. The only exception for me is black and white which always seems to work for me.
Hi Kay. I am intrigued by your comment re: medium wash jeans and how versatile they are. However, I'm 74 years old, and I no longer wear bluejeans. I do wear black jeans. Is there another pant that is as versatile as the medium wash jeans that I could substitute, for example, when I travel? Thanks. I love your channel.
You can also find medium wash black jeans. In fact, most black jeans I see are a medium intensity. Also any colored pant with a heathered consistency will be medium intensity.
Hello here we are in spring, but your tips are great. Hace a nice white christmas. A follower frim the end of the world.🇨🇱 my English is not the best but🤷🏻♀️
You look so pretty in pink! Do you have a makeup routine? Love that lipstick. What do you do for your teeth to look so good? I use a lot of your ideas and got a "cute" compliment yesterday, but I don't feel pretty anymore except on rare occasions. Wondering if it is make-up/skincare/teeth as I get older that might help? I know all the emotional/inside stuff that matters and have worked on those, thanks. I'm ok with myself, just want to improve some of the outward appearance things.:)
Thank you. Yes I do have a video with my makeup routine. ua-cam.com/video/xO4Ta5vTZBM/v-deo.html And I highly recommend Smile Brilliant for teeth whitening. www.smilebrilliant.com/
So I have medium brown hair, eyes and fair skin. I'm thinking medium intensity? I don't look good in pastels I'm 71, petite. The colors you choose are beautiful on you, Kay.
I had black hair when I was younger, now all grey/white. If I wear medium wash jeans I think a high intensity color like dark green or red or navy blue looks best. Right?
It depends a lot on your skin tone. For me, also a graying brunette, I would choose a lighter blue or other mid-range color with medium wash jeans. I have porcelain skin and I'm only 5'2", so I prefer low-contrast outfits because my overall look is medium contrast and low-contrast outfits don't cut my height. I wear deeper color tops with dark wash or black jeans.
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms thank you! I was more wondering if you had liner under your eyes as it looked very sharp and dramatic and made your eyes really stand out. 🌹🌹

You bet. I think it’s always smart to get someone else’s input. 🥰
Thanks Kay! I have to wear scrubs during work so I appreciate your tips, because I feel lost as far as my fashion when its the weekend or vacation time. Glad I found you!
You’re so welcome, Claudia. Thanks so much for watching. 💕
Interesting concept, I will try to put together a few outfits based on this. I wonder if my low intensity colouring is he reason I love monochrome, especially neutral monochrome.
Yes, that’s very probable. Great look for low contrast.
Very helpful! I’m colored like you, but with blue eyes. I realize I really do look best in low contrast outfits, it makes sense now.
Great. Thanks so much for sharing. 🥰
I never knew that! I would love a color analysis to help me though. Some things I think I might look good in, I don’t. Ugh!
Hey Kaye, can you please do a video showing all medium contrast outfits as I feel that is what I am.
Wonderful. I’m so glad you found this helpful.
I didn't know about ithis subject. I think It Will be heipful to create beaitiful outfits. Thank you, Kate
Yes, I think you’ll find it really makes a big difference in overall presentation. Thanks for watching. 🥰
Your current coloring. I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this! Really good practical tips. Thank you
Wonderful!
Thanks Theresa. I do have blog posts on that at my website. And maybe I will make that video one of these days! Thanks for sharing. 😊
Thank you Kay. I so enjoy your presentations for women of a certain age and really for all age groups. I just purchased a Nordgreen watch and used your code. Love it! Thank you!
Oh I’m so glad you like it. That’s wonderful. I just got my husband one yesterday and we’re so excited for it to arrive.
I have silver hair, fair skin and one medium brown and one dark blue eye. Mama said she marked when she’s was pregnant because she wanted a brown eyed doll for me. Fine, but I don’t know now what contrast this would be. Congratulations on the numbers. Wow!❤️
I would say you probably have medium contrast in intensity. Thanks for watching. 💕
👍. I have white hair, dark brown eyes and a medium tone skin, so I have high contrast, but never thought of that before
Finally, a clear explanation of why my brunette wardrobe is less suited to my now silver gray hair! Medium intensity is good for me, but low intensity is really best.
Yes, as we age many of our features soften or change completely (as with our hair) so we’re wise to reconsider these principles as we age. 😊
Thanks for sharing I really will try this .
Great! Thanks for watching. 🥰
This is a new concept for me, but makes so much sense! I have strawberry blonde hair with fair skin and blue eyes. I’ve never felt good in high contrast outfits and never knew why. The only exception for me is black and white which always seems to work for me.
Oh, I'm so envious! I went to school with a girl who had strawberry blonde hair and I've always admired it. Such a rare and beautiful color.
Yes, I’d say medium contrast. Thanks so much.
So helpful, thank you!
Wonderful. Thanks so much for letting me know. 💕
I’m going to check your blog but could you do more on this? And could you elaborate on your eye makeup for this video… it looks great! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thank you. I’m wearing eye shadow from this Estée Lauder kit. I LOVE it. Goes on soft. shopstyle.it/l/bBjwp
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms thank you! I was more wondering if you had liner under your eyes as it looked very sharp and dramatic and made your eyes really stand out. 🌹🌹
No. Just eye shadow and mascara. ☺️
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms fantastic thank you!💞
That's right, spot on.
Thanks for watching, Karol. 😊
Thanks for the advice!!!
