Brilliant. To re-tension the spring, do you reverse the process as shown?
No, it's a different process to retension these springs. Look this up as there are a few vids on how this is done. It's not hard.
Thanks mate. A great clear video on how to remove the door & take out the tension. Is there a simple method to retension the door, when back up in position? Or do you just roll it forward away from the body? Thanks again.
No worries.... re-tensioning rollerdoor springs is not a difficult task but does require two "stillson"-types of pipe wrenches, and a socket to undo and re-tighten the u-bolts. I don't have a video on this but there are a heap of these videos on YT about re-tensioning a roller door that shows how to use the pipe wrenches on the centre-shaft bar to twist it to the correct tension. @@jelreviews Thanks for your reply. I saw one video where the guy just rolled the door forward two complete turns to do tis but it seemed too easy & didn't mention stillsons like you are saying.
@@johnmchugh8015 I think I've seen a similar video a while back when installing a couple of roller doors at my joint, and practically speaking it simply didn't work for me. The pipe wrench method or even consider using something like vice-clamps which grip the centre-shaft is still the best and most effective way of achieving the required tension with the u-bolts. I can't remember off-hand which direction to turn it for the tension, but once you start, you'll see which is the correct direction.

Hmm, sorry, I don't know for certain as mine didn't have motors. I'd imagine that there is still tension required even with motors, because there is a lot of weight in these roller doors.
So can you put the door up the same way you take it down? How did you keep the other side from sliding off? Very impressive
Yes you can. But doing a few more alpine butterfly loops in the rope, you take the roller down in small stages which makes it very safe to work with. Will not slide and I had no concern that it would. If I'd try to simply lower one whole end to the ground, that would be dangerous on my own, and yeah, it would slide off... and my day would not be good. 😁
