Don't know if anyone else caught this but I have to correct the narrator. He said that Secretariat retired to stud at his place of birth Claiborne Farm, but he was not born at Claiborne Farm he was born at Meadows Stable in Doswell Virginia in July of 1970.
Majestic Prince was an example of an owner going to the well once too often. I think most owners now understand that they hire the best trainer that you trust, the trainer hires the best jockey for that horse, the rider calls the shots as the race unfolds. Charlie Wittingham said, "I don't give riders instructions...the good ones don't need them and the bad ones don't listen." No telling how good Majestic Prince could've been if they stopped on him when Johnny Longden suggested.
I think that secretariat was born with hidden pair of wings. At the end of his races he seem to keep running faster and faster like he was in another race, but he would stop when he heard the camera click so he could pose. There have been so many great horses racing, or at stud in all kinds of tracks. But I think secretariats speed and his stamina, his ability to run on dirt on grass, turf, on fast tracks on mud, in a swamp. He could run on anything and for any length of time. This Separated him from all the rest. And to me leave him at number one up until now which is 2023.

Polo you're right. He is the greatest. His first loss he was ridden horribly, after being cut cut off by 2 other horses at the start. Second race he lost as a 2 yr old he won the Champagne Stakes but was disqualified for interfering with Step Nicely. He won by a few lengths. At 3 in the Wood Memorial he had an abscess which caused him to be unable to grab the bit. He lost the Whitney when he ran sick. He won Horse of the year at 2. First time. He won the triple crown, setting 2 track records and one world record in the Belmont. He destroyed Forego in the Kentucky Derby, Sham couldn't race anymore, defeated great older horses in the Marlboro while setting another world record beating Riva Ridge, Key to the Mint, Cougar II, Onion. He defeated Tentam on the grass, champion turf runner, won twice on the grass, once firm, once soft in Canada. If he would've raced at 4 there would've been world records set in every race he ran. Last thing I will say, he ran each quarter in the Kentucky Derby faster than the last. Amazing 🐴. They called him the horse that God built.
Greetings Jack, Secretariat was born in Caroline County Va, near Doswell Va, at The Meadow. My grandfather was there, and helped out. Unfortunately, we (our horse farm) didn’t get any breeding rights. :) They meant to say, perhaps, that Secretariat was conceived at Claiborne. Majestic Prince was truly one of the most magnificent looking animals. I remember reading the Daily Racing Form in early 1969, even before he won the Santa Anita Derby, and the article compared him to Man O' War. Sadly, owner McMahon overruled trainer Longden about the Belmont start, and Arts and Letters went on to be Horse of the Year; a very costly decision on all accounts. I love the fact that at 17:02 the presenter says that "our heroes did what they had to do" and that comparing them is futile. I agree. Justify's TC win was, to me, just as exciting as when I saw Secretariat and the others do it years ago. Each generation brings about the "now" horse amidst the change in the thoroughbred and the game.
Owners like Majestic Prince’s and Seattle Slew’s do not consider the valuable experience and knowledge of their trainers and are at fault for their horse’s first losses. It is sad. At least not all owners are that way.
