I think the babysitting witch actually wished to find the baby she dropped somewhere. I think she found the baby (dead) and that was what made her soul gem go dark.
Squire Her notes state that she specifically babysits for money though, and has an “impoverished” nature. If she’s babysitting for money, it’s probably not for her own, presumably impoverished parents who wouldn’t be able to give her much money, if any. A wish for fertility seems odd too considering that her production notes state that she specifically doesn’t like children

I mean kyubeys wishes usually aren't like this he actually gives what they want, the fall of a magical girl usually isn't tied to the semantics of their wish, but the nature of their wish and its consequences.

Yachiyo wished to survive, she meant alongside her friends as their leader but instead she has the power to leach their life force and strengthen her own, which is not how she meant her wish.
"Special Attack Clothing" is also a great way to describe a magical girl outfit.

I have a theory that the Needle Witch actually didn't find out about Kyubey's deceit; I believe that as a human, she was a big fan of Magical Girl shows and was an otaku, probably made a lot of cosplays and such. When Kyubey showed up, it was like a dream come true, and she made the contract to save the world like her heroes on tv and in manga.
I think her fall into despair was on purpose; the fact that her nature is "respectful" and her first form seems to be a cosplay of Kyubey, makes me believe that she respected Kyubey and, because her description says that she believes she's saving the world, she by that extension thinks Kyubey is saving the world. I believe she did find out the truth, and that Kyubey gave his whole speech about stopping entropy and how humanity would have never gotten this far without magical girls and witches, and she believed him. She agreed that sacrificing a few humans to save the universe was justified, and willingly became a witch in order to further stop entropy.
Considering the themes of sewing and costumes, I think her power may have been to receive the powers of whatever cosplay she wore, kinda like the ultimate cosplayer
I feel like she could be a version of Kanoko Yayoi too. Maybe.

@@miekoisbored Could be; Kanoko even appears in the Other Story manga, meaning that her witch appearing in the city isn't out of the question. And her respectful nature could stem from her wanting people to respect her. It doesn't say what happens to her after making her wish, so she could have gotten a deeper bond with Kyubey.
The only thing that could hint to this not being the case, is that the shadow appearing when she's charging up an attack (which is likely her magical girl form) has pig tails, and even both forms of the witch has a form of pig tails (the Kyubey mask's feelers, and the green ribbon on the sewing form), and Kanoko has very short hair and no pig tails

She was made to be a secondary character in Magia Record. If she was from other Spinoff she'll have a 4xxx code in he magia Record code; the 1xxx code is for the important magical girls in the magia record story and the ones designed by Aoki Ume (some of the important charactes weren't made by Aoki Ume and some Aoki Ume characters are secondary characters), the 2xxx code is for the Original Madoka Magica Characters, all Holy Quintent with their different design (Madokami and Moemura for now) and Nagisa Momoe; the 3xxx code is for the secondary magical girls in Magia Record (Kanoko has the code 3001) and the Other Spinoff Characters have the 4xxx code, for example: Oriko has the code 4001, Kazumi the 4011 code, Tart the code 4021, Suzune the 4031 code, etc. if Kanoko is from another spinoff she'll have the 4xxx code, not the 3xxx code. (If you look closely to the sketches shown in the trailer you'll see a neddle magical girl with a hoodie).

There's a difficult to see detail of Candy's design that, paired with a lot of the imagery you pointed out, gives me a much more disturbing theory about her. When her bunny ears turn into jaws, the inside of her head isn't a skull, it's a pelvis. Combine her immaturity and image-obsessed nature with the imagery of a gaping maw over a pelvis, spears impaling things, constantly being watched, and specifically the fact that the audience in her labyrinth seem to be staring up a child's skirt. I think Candy was a child star who was being groomed and molested, someone who's very young and completely caught up in fame and attention they're not old enough to understand is extremely vulnerable. it's possible the trigger to her grief seed hatching was falling from fame after having the abuse discovered. Children display pretty clear signs of sexual abuse, her vanity and obsession with "cuteness" might be signs of her having been groomed by an adult, a victim simply parroting the same language as the adult grooming her. and because children have a harder time understanding others it's likely a precocious and incredibly traumatized young girl would've mistaken adults suddenly showing concern for her for rejection, especially if this was accompanied by separation from her abuser. Children don't easily understand manipulation and have a harder time telling when an adult is taking advantage of them, separating a groomed child from an abuser can be really upsetting while the victim is still learning what happened was wrong. Candy was probably being abused by an adult close to her, and when this was discovered being separated from her abuser and suddenly being treated like shes damaged probably made her angry because she mistook this as rejection.
I interpreted Candy being a girl from one of those creepy child pageants.
The princess theme could represent the outfits that Candy was forced to wear by her caretakers when she was still human.
The "audience" in the foreground in her labyrinth (which are actually doll heads impaled on spikes) could represent the actual audience whom she was forced to entertain in the pageants, whom she all despised.
Her minions being rabbit cages could symbolize how trapped she felt by the adults in her life, and how the adults treated her(and possibly other children too) like animals.
And lastly, the random pairs of legs in the background of her labyrinth could represent the area the sick audience desired the most, which goes in hand with your idea of sexual abuse as these "pageants" are filled to the brink with pedophiles.
To go with what you think, makes me think that the chocolate witch is Candies sister and was blamed for her sisters disappearance and that's why she wants people to like her but doesn't think anyone will because of how young she was and that's why her grief seed hatched but also the reason that her wish was like that.
@@redmermaid73 Actually that chocolate witch was born from a girl named Kuro whom Homura met during the Valentine's day event.
The girl was a Black Feather and was rather shy, which Homura empathized.
But at some point, something horrible happened which caused Kuro's grief seed to hatch, which Homura tried to save her but was too late.
Homura tried to be like Madoka to Kuro, but utterly failed.
Chances are Kuro is the same character as Kuroe from the anime as they share the similar theme of love. There's also the fact that Kuroe somewhat resembles Homura, which goes in hand how Kuro reminded Homu of herself.

We actually meet the chocolate witches magical girl, her name was kuro, a black magus: she refused to let homura see her face covering her whole body in a black cloak Homura visits her in the hospital. Homura states the chocolate she recommended was perfect for madoka. Kuro stated she was glad she had done something right for once but that it was too late. Kuro proceeded to imply she was bullied previously then instantly turned into a witch.

while i feel the "younger/immature" theory fits for Zenobia, an alternate theory i thought of was that she was actually an artist, writer, or a game developer, the line about her "sand castle that she tore down and rebuilt countless times until she couldn't remember what it was originally meant to be" really makes me think that she had a passion project that meant a lot to her, but in her desire to make it more perfect, or possible to make her idea more marketable, she deleted everything and started from scratch over and over, and she fell into despair realize that she no longer loved what she was creating
maybe she even wished to be an amazing programmer, which gave her the ability to manipulate the world around her with "re-programming" magic, which gives her witch form the ability to mold things like sand
Candy's labyrinth being full of cell phones makes me think she was probably a teenager actually, and her obsession with being cute and loved makes me think she probably outright wished to be cuter, or for everyone to love her. in Magia Record, during Momoko's side story, Candy attacks during an idol group concert, so it's possible that Candy had wished to be a famous idol, and became a witch after being overcome with jealousy after another, new group became more popular than her. when she attacks, we see she rips her head open, revealing a pelvis bone, so it's possible that she became angry when she realized that people didn't like her as a person and only found her sexually attractive.
for Rebecca, i think her story is a bit more simple, she was probably really scared when she realized witches could appear anywhere, and would paranoid that one day a witch would come and kill her in her sleep, and ended up wasting all of her magic energy trying to stay awake forever, which took a toll on her physical and mental health
When you mentioned the sand witch, and how "she looks like a lady, but acts like a child" This tells me that she is childish, and does childish things, though she is older then a child and should not have this behavior. The big thing that stands out to me is what her description says "She has destroyed and rebuilt her castles so many times she doesn't even remember what she was trying to build in the first place" This may be a reference to the witch its self, but that does not mean its the magical girl and who she was. I think that it represents her personality and what type of person she was. She had destroyed many relationships with his childish self, and her not being satisfied with the life or friends she had. so she got new ones, but she was never satisfied. She has left so many relationships with people that she does not even know what shes really looking for, and what will make her happy.

Shin's labyrinth is probably based on Sai-no-Kawara. A place where aborted and stillborn children go. Children stack up stones in a futile attempts to escape. But demons come to knock over stones.

Interesting, what comed to my mid was the legend of La Llorona. There are many version, but the most common elements are of a young woman (probably late teen) who killed her baby because it reminded her of her lover. Therefore, hating children because they consumed her time and the love of her lover.

In many stories La llorona is an native woman (mexica) that drawn her children because her lover, a spanish, left her; or rather in most ancient stories, she is the mexica goddess-mother Coatlicue that cries because of the fall of "her children " (The mexica Empier). Here, Shin doesn't drawn the people that she think are " the baby", it says she suffocates them with her children straps (her arms), so is most likely probably that Shin is based in what Ulla von Bartels said.

If there’s a part 3, it should also talk about the doppels, maybe explaining their descriptions and how they connect to the magical girls. For example some of them say, the master of this emotion can go through life and death or the master of this emotion can grant any wish to others. Maybe part 3 could explain the magical girls themselves.

Okay so from what i can gather from the wiki (this might have spoilers, I'm not too far into the game just yet);
Matasuburo does indeed have a confirmed magical girl form and even a special memoria card thought it was released much later during the 2019 Valentines day event.
Her magical girl form is a member of the "Wings of the Magius" named Kuro who was just an NPC till players gave her more attention and they decided to give her a one star memoria card. she has no lines when you play with her and even whats supposed to be her side story isnt even a side story, it just says "Black magical girl quest" then gets on with the fighting, no cutscenes, nothing.
Now her memoria card is called "that days regrets" and says
_"The chocolate I had wanted to give you is here.
Thinking you would be pleased, I had prepared the chocolate. But, I'm sorry, I can no longer give it to you. I'll no longer be myself, and this chocolate will surely taste bitter."_
This gives us some clues as to what she might have wished or what might have lead to her becoming a wish. Now Matasaburo is so far the only witch in the game thats a recolor of another, like you said its not uncommon for RPGS to do this but the fact shes the only recolor in the game confuses me to a staggering degree, I may be looking too much into this but I believe from what I can gather from the wiki I know her backstory so without further ado let me jump into it:
Kuro is a young girl who probably isnt notice much by other people, she has low self esteem and as stated by what her familiars "Zakuro" notes say ; _Minions born to wrap up and conceal their witch, who has nothing to her name. With their vividly-colored bodies, they wrap all the witch’s solitude and sorrow in adorable packaging. The minions eagerly await the day when the witch they adorn will be accepted by someone, but the witch herself has no confidence that she will be, which the minions are disappointed by._
This gives me reason to believe my Social recluse theory, next it says that they hide their witches solitude and await the day that she will be accepted and love, her memoria mentions chocolate and seeing as how on the day she was released was on a valentines event, chocolates on valentines day indicate a special relationship with a certain someone, perhaps even romantic, this leads me to believe that perhaps she is a hopeless romantic who wants to be admired but cant since no one would notice her.
Zakuro probably represents what little friends she has or her family who constantly try to support her, I also had a thought that they could also manifest from a sort of fake happiness she conjures up, a lot of people say that depressed people tend to smile more in order to mask what they are actually feeling so the way that her familiars act could have been the root of that, forcing yourself to be happy as a coping mechanism to "wrap up" her pain.
She tries to change the way she dresses in order to grab their attention but it doesnt work out and she probably gets bullied by it, with the lack of confidence she has in herself she tend to think of herself as the minor role to this story, as evident in her witch notes.
Kyubey probably reached her around this time and she wished to be accepted or at least noticed by a certain community, turning her into a magical girl.
She probably became a member of the WIngs Of The Magius shortly after that and soon felt that her wish had come true. she finally had a place where she could fit in.
I believe she turned into a which on Valentines day or something similar in which she felt confident enough to confess her love to her crush, perhaps the chocolate Kuro mentions in her memoria card was handmade, showing her dedication.
Perhaps she was about to confess when
A) someone confesses first to the person she likes
or
B) she gets mistaken for another girl and is rejected immediately
or even
C) a mixture of the two, where a girl confesses to her crush _and then_ gets mistaken for someone else and rejected because they think that girl is Kuro and makes some sort of nasty remark..
I dont think this is when she would turn into a witch but it could be the start of her despair.
She soon realizes that while she is accepted in a community she in indistinguishable from the other members, especially since they are all basically the same thing just with different names;
Magical Girls who want to free other magical girls by protecting rumors all whilst wearing the same hooded cloaks.
she probably realized that while she may have gotten what she wished for she in turn, gave up her individuality, she was no longer an outcast but just a face in the crowd, no one would remember her, she's just the same as everyone else, a carbon copy.
She probably had her grief seed hatch at the school roof, possibly thinking of jumping off.
the name Matasaburo comes from a film with a similar title in which a transfer student goes to school and everyone thinks that they are the wind sprite Matasaburo, while sprites are known for mischief them being elemental, they could posses the powers to basically become one with the wind, which is probably why Kuro's witch form shares that name. she could be as invisible as the wind.
And thus she finally turns into a witch, forever to play a minor role in someone elses story, forever to be forgotten, unloved and unaccepted.

This also helps with the witch kiss design, the hood covering a peice of candy is to represent her working in the Wings of the Magius with the eye underneath to represent who started it all I suppose tho the eye also kidn of looks like a shirt collor dontcha think?
I thinks thats why shes the only recolor, she probably saw the witch Candy and when she became a witch she became a cheap imitation of something that, while evil, held more worth then her.
anyways thats just my hot take one it, my fingers hurt and it iit late so if you excuse me Im gonna be doing something that hopefully requires no hands to enjoy, like watching tv, or crying.

I have a feeling that the fact they chose for her design aspects to be recolours might be that due to the fact she had low self-esteem, she wanted to mask herself as someone else, hoping it would make her feel better about herself or make others like her more so she took other people's designs and tailored it to be her own. She might also have been making herself look like others before she became a magical girl, thinking it may make people like her.
That's my take on why she was a recolour. Im not sure if im right but i hope this helps lessen confusion a little

It feels to me like Matasaburo was one of Princess Candy's 'satellites' - someone who follows around a popular person and emulates their behaviour as they have a low opinion of their own self-worth, and want the popular persons talents to rub off onto them.
Many popular people in schools are like the implied personality of Candy, though - Well-to-do children who are completely spoiled rotten who would have no remorse in treating their 'servants' as if they didn't exist until they were required for some meaningless task that she could easily do herself.
Matasaburo probably idolized Candy and put up with her torment, even becoming a Magical Girl at her idol's request and letting Candy choose the wish for her, something involving Chocolate.
Sometime later, Matasaburo got up the courage to give her idol a Valentines Day gift - some chocolates she made herself to symbolize their partnership and the wish they made that day - only for Candy to not just reject it, but show utter disgust and throwing it away like it was diseased!
Of course, such a reaction from her Princess was soul-crushing for Matasaburo, and her Soul Gem went black...
Teenage girls in particular are very prone to this sort of unhealthy relationship, so much so that it's a stereotypical trope in school dramas world-wide. This would explain why her Witches Kiss has the hood - she's simply hiding in the Shadow of her idol, looking identical to them in the vain hope for their peers validation. It's also why her Witch Form could be generally identical in appearance to Candy, even if it happened before Candy became a Witch herself - her Soul Gem would be linked to Candy's if the wish was made for Candy's benefit.

I think the chocolate one felt very low of her and because she didn't thought of herself something I think that Candy and Stacy where her friends and saw them as role models and acted like them and felt grieve when they turned into witches.
I think it is possible that candy and her where twins
candy wishing to be the center of attention leaving the other to be in unnoticed and therefore unwanted
this should explain why there designs are so similar and why candy feel she is better than her everyone else is because she wants to be better than her twin that looks exactly like

Somewhere in her familiar's description it mentioned she wanted to be accepted by somebody which probably adds to what you said. I also think that since she wanted to be accepted, she obviously looked up to somebody which could explain why her design (along with her labyrinth and her familar) is just a recolor.
It would be interesting if the two bunny witches were actually twins with opposite personalities, and the reason the Chocolate Witch doesn't have confidence is because she feels she can't measure up to her sister.
Also for the baby sitting Witch, her curls on the bottom look like how ovaries would be placed, possibly she hates children because she couldn't have one of her own, wished for one, and when that child died she turned into a witch
I believe Teresa's nature is supposed to be prone to mood swings or changing opinions, that's what it means by "A swinging back and forth nature" to me

I wonder if maybe Matasoboro was on a team with some of the other girls who later became witches. She probably looked up to the other girls, especially Candy, and tried to mimic them in order to be accepted by the others around them. I think she probably saw her teammates turn into witches, as her kiss resembles a mourning veil.
Actually she knew Homura, both were in the same hospital! That's all I know cause the story is in japanese. Ah and Homura saw her turn into Matasaburo some time after they met again. Her name is Kuro (I don't know if it's her last name or her first name, Homura never says her name, this is known because of the game files say that)

Matasoboro was actually a member of the Wings of the Magius called Kuro, which is the reason why her Witch's Kiss looks like a hooded figure.
The babysitting witch reminds me of La Llorona, especially when describing that the baby was probably dropped near a river due to the labyrinth (that's the most common interpretation of how her kid(s) died in the legend), the ensnaring of people and never letting them go (as to how children / other unfortunate souls are supposedly captured by La Llorona if they're out too late near waterways) and the idea that she doesn't even like children (in the original tale she drowned her own children for a number of disputed reasons, but the one I know being that they were illegitimate or going to be taken away from her, adding to the not wanting to let go of those captured).
I think Xenobia's despair place was a theme park at the beach! Like those coastal parks we have? Her familiars ride on those steel beams as tracks. Like rollercoasters
Itzli is probably my favorite witch. Just her design and the fact that SHE'S AN ALIEN makes me wish we could see a magical girl form of her somewhere
I don't think Itzli is an alien so much as she was delusional and/or alienated enough to feel like she was upon corruption. Maybe she felt dissociated from her body, like what Sayska suffered from? Except more severely, making her a brain.
Pretty sure she was an Alien. Pretty sure there other planets and their girls feeding the system

I think that she was trying to do what Madoka was doing but she actually agreed with Kyubey after finding out his true intentions instead. It makes sense because she said she still thinks that what she is doing as a witch is right because witches fight magical girls to make more witches and more energy to save the universe which is what she was trying to do. I think thats why she wears the kyubey head
I think Zenobia is a bit less literal. I think she was an early teenager who still loved playing pretend with dolls and spot her things. But the adults around her made fun of her or scolded her for being so childish. Her barrier shows her attempt to lock up her child side and grow up, but unwilling to do so, she became a witch. And as a witch she has a hatred for things seen as “grown up” and in sheer defiance still plays her imagination games to the point she doesn’t even know why she plays in the first place.
With the first one, it kind of reminds me of when a kid draws an explosion. Maybe her abilities were similar to that of using fireworks/explosions? It would explain why she "grows stronger when it's dark outside".
The scariest thing about this is the fact that that girl could be as young as 7 and start puberty!
Just see charactes like Yuma Chitose or Nagisa Momoe (Charlotte)!! They are the youngest magical girls and probably they have 7 or 8 years old (Are they in early puberty? maybe, both of them seem pretty mature for their age).

7:56 when it comes to the magical form of Itzli, in the Japanese version of Magia Record there’s a new storyline happening called Scene 0, which takes place as a prequel before Madoka Magica. During Scene 0, we follow a magical girl named Mabuyu Aki (she’s even a free unit, you can get by just going through the story), and some people have theorized Mabuyu may be the magical girl form of Itzli, while I won’t go into specifics on why people theorize Mabuyu might be Itzli it should be mentioned, currently Mabuyu doesn’t have a Doppel, which I just think is interesting.
I’m not saying you SHOULD theorize Itzli is Mabuyu but still, I think this is kinda fun to think about.
I just realized Mastaburo(?)'s witch's kiss is the hood of the wings of Magius, a reference to her identity as Kuro.
I love the fact that you used Sakura's silhouette from Fire Emblem Heroes (originally from Fire Emblem Fates) as Durbar, as Sakura herself was a shrine maiden in her game as they purify things from evil

Theory number one: She’s an in joke of the team. They realized that she is just a recolor of another witch they designed and decided to poke fun at it by talking about how she is waiting to be accepted as her own character.
Theory number two, and this one is very much cracky: She witness whoever Candy was as a magical girl and fell in love with her. She adored this magical girl and wanted to be exactly like her! She expressed her adoration through making chocolates in the shape of said magical girl, or at least shaped like things that remind her of said magical girl. She may have even wished to be a magical girl, just like the one she adored. Or perhaps she wished to be recognized by said magical girl. Maybe she wanted said magical girl to “notice me senpai” if you will. And maybe her witch seed hatched when she learned that her magical girl idol became a witch, or if it turned out said magical girl never truly ah acknowledged her, and since she wanted to be just like her idol and accepted by her, she became a chocolate version of her idols witch.
I have nothing to support this theory on save for the fact that she is chocolate and shaped just like candy. That is all I have to go on. Take it with a grain of salt.
It's not just that _she_ is an in-joke, the girl she was born from is _also_ an in-joke. She was a Black Feather for the Wings of Magius who appeared in Homura's Valentine's Day story. She, the magical girl, didn't have her own name until she was added as a playable character named "Kuro" entirely in response to her sudden popularity. As a magical girl, she has no voice lines aside from reused ones for her attacks, has no description, is capped at 1*, and doesn't even have her own artwork since her card just uses the default Black Feather sprite. In the story, she's constantly leaning on the 4th wall lamenting how she's little more than a side character in someone else's story and how she'll never amount to much, and she's pretty much right. She's the most generic joke of a unit in the game and that's the whole point.

I used to lie for attention because I was heavily neglected. I'd then get punished for lying, "one hit for every lie you tell me" is what I remember my mom literally saying to me before bending me over her knee. But then I'd still lie because even though I would get hurt in the end, at least my parents were giving me attention.
Funny enough my parents lied a lot too. I remember all their broken promises, but if I were to ever bring them up I'd be the bad person. So I just don't.
I still can't get over it, so as an adult I've been giving back to my 'internal child self' and getting myself almost everything they ever promised me. I don't care how childish or useless.
Quitterie "giving up everything to fight for the universe" could be interpreted as actually helping kyubey, since technically they are fighting for the universe, like it or not.
I think "Matasaburo" used to be a magical girl, who fell into despair due to her own lack of confidence, and bottling her feelings for far too long (Like Sayaka in the anime to some extent).
The whole "chocolate theme" must correlate to declare her feelings, you know about the whole "give chocolate to the person you love/care" thing, she probably wanted to declare her feelings to someone she loved, but did not manage to, or could not do so.
The "play a minor role" is probably because she wasn't or did not have anything "special" going on for her, whereas her loved one probably was, which would somewhat explain her appearance or that might just be the cover of her home-made chocolate.
The minions/familiars are probably a representation of people who actually rooted for her and wanted her to be happy, but maybe after she dismissed the idea of being able to declare her feelings, or at least they thought that happened, they were like "are you for real?". That or the familiars are just a representation of her own disappointment. Familiars are often a representation of the "stupid" things a magical girl did on her life, her regrets or the feelings she went through before turning into a witch.
Her witch kiss looks to my like a covered Loli-Pop, which could mean that she did not give her chocolate to the person it was intended to, but on the other hand, it also looks like a head hiding inside a hood, maybe a representation as to how she acted on life, as in "never sticking her head out to be noticed by others"
The red rooftop might be indicative of how she is reminded of that place as somewhere she despises, a place she has a problem with, or the place where she became a witch, while it might just be a re-skin, think that she might have gone to the same school as Stacey. And the whole red-liquid lying around the floor just reminds me of blood, but that is just way too easy, so probably at some point, she tried to suicide herself, which may explain the colour, or it might be indicative of the place where she "lost" her loved one, and I mean "lost" in more than just one possible scenario.
This is all just speculation since I don't think the developers put that much thought into a re-skin of another witch, but it would be cool if they did, after all, it becomes even cooler when you consider that there MAY have some correlation with the other two witches, given their similarities between Stacey and Candy (candy Vs. chocolate) it takes another level of depth for this re-used Witch skin.
Maybe her loved one suffered from depression and thinking no one cared for him caused him to suicide and leading to this girl to feel guilty of not having confessed, believing that if she may have confessed, he would have a reason to keep living.
Maybe her story is one of love rivalry, maybe between a dear friend, or probably her own sister, but in the end, none of them managed to get their desires fulfilled; maybe her sister won and caused her to fall into despair, feeling betrayed by her own family.
I personally love it when there is such a small room to create a good Theory or Hipotesis, given how you can just think whatever you want, or believe whatever you think is the truth.

I feel like Chocolate and Candy were sisters, maybe a younger sister, but Chocolate was ALWAYS overshadowed by her "better" sister. So...she may have became a witch first, and after Candy had realized that, and everyone started worrying about (and giving more attention to the now dead sister) she, too, turned into a witch, for she no longer was the center of attention.
Although, now that I realize she COULD be explained later in the game (...I don't quiet remember reading that, but ah well) ...makes me wonder...

I think that Candy might’ve been a child star of some kind. She was probably put under immense amounts of pressure to be a star while being spoiled at the same time (very common for parents of child idols) and gave into the stress when she realized that no one actually cared about her or thought highly of her. She probably transformed in the middle of one of her recitals as well.
As for Matasaburo, she was probably another child star living in Candy’s shadow, never able to measure up. She likely became a witch from the despair of thinking she couldn’t be good enough. Her power might’ve been something related to chocolate, maybe it was a comfort food for her. It would also give the developers a reason for her to be a recolor of Candy. She only sees herself as a plainer version of Candy.
My theory about the chocolate witch. “Her nature is to play a minor role” seems to be a nod at how she’s just a recolor of another witch, but it might be pointing to the idea that she was shy and tended to be overlooked. Chocolate is associated with love and Valentine’s Day, so together with what the text about the minions, she probably had a crush whose attention she couldn’t get.
The black part on her kiss looks like it could be a veil, like people used to wear for mourning. Maybe she had a person she liked, but before she ever dared to confess her feelings, they died? The peacock eye-like design element might allude to wanting to dare to be bright and flashy, like a peacock.

1-Maybe she lost the baby in a river zone, and wish to find them or, in case she found the baby dead, for the baby to be alive. Her corruption then might be because she hurt or kill someone by accident suffocating them.
2-She try to catch the baby as they were falling but suffocate them instead, wishing for the baby to be alive/or just to not have consequences for that. Her corruption then would come for guilt, or maybe some other dark thing in the world of the magical girls.
For shin, I saw her more as a stressed teenage mum
Shin's wish was to make her mother pregnent how her parents wanted, but when it happend she needed to take care oh her new siblings. Her design is a symbol how much she was responsible and at the same time how much she hated that her parents only remembers about her when she had to babysit. She wa almost ready to break and shout at them but the tragedy happend and baby dissapear. She loved the baby but she heated having less attension from her parents and that loss turned her into witch
For Stacey I think that maybe she was someone who didn't know what they wanted to do in life and all of what they would want to be was criticized as not feasible, like career consultation in school anime where teachers ask students what they wanted to be and her parents might have shot down her prospects and dreams for something more in line with their ideas. She could be someone who wanted to enjoy her youth but was pressured to grow up and she didn't want that since she still hasn't made up her mind. And I think that the rooftop of her school might have been her safe haven and that she loved to got there just to get away from it all till one day, maybe close to graduation she just couldn't handle the pressure and became a witch.

I would like to think that the chocolate witch is related(biological or a friend) to the princess witch. She would have low self-esteem at look up to the princess witch. The chocolate theme would be her love of sweets and how she would like to see her confident self sweet and decadent. However she was a binge eater eating in stressful/boring situations. Her wish was probably to be thin and not being able to be fat. However even if she was thin her habit just got worse over time. She would also see the princess witch for who she really was a person that cared about her own selfish needs over friendship. Unfortunately thought that no one would care for her because of her glutinous and solitary nature. To me her kiss is a chocolate being covered in a cloth the eye is the chocolate witches paranoia of being watched due to her eating disorder. She transformed eating a huge amount of sweets after she found out the fate her friend. She became the witch because of the sorrow of losing her only friend at least in her mind and in some way how her wish did not solve her over all problem. To me her power would be turing her enemies into sweets or gaining more power from eating.

I have a theory for Rebecca. Rebecca fell into despair because of the biblical end times. In her labyrinth, there are crosses. Crosses are usually symbolized with Christianity and in the book of Revelation it states what shall happen to the world towards the end of God's creation. What if during this time signs of the end times were happening? So she couldn't sleep because she had thoughts of the wars, natural disasters, and things about to happen? So then Kyubey offered her a wish. Maybe she thought Kyubey was a spiritual figure/angel coming to save her inevitable demise? Her wish could have been to have the end times never happen and for everyone to be happy but instead the Bible was changed so that it was never created and she was deceived by Kyubey. As for her grief seed hatching, she probably thought she was going to hell for disobeying God's orders and erasing the Bible from existence. Leading to her doom. Besides that, if you were a witch what would be YOUR theme?
Edit almost a year later: To elaborate on this theory perhaps she fell victim to a witch and started to hallucinate about the wars and disasters before being rescued by kyubey?
Tbh id probably be a library or Art expo themed witch. Art is very important to me and i do grief about my inability of performing it a lot so yeah lol
Well I am terrified of being physically being hurt again leading to even someone yelling at me or showing aggression to me causing me to flee and hide from the person and have a panic attack and also have abandonment issues with me being afraid of those close to me dying or loved ones leaving me and hating me. So my theme would probably be based around maybe a fantasy castle that seems to go on forever. You would come across people walking not noticing anything around them or dolls lying around everywhere. You would see me but one show of aggression I would flee and keep fleeing and trying to hide. If you trap me then screams of terror come from all directions to try and distract you so I can flee and hide again and maybe a shield since I tend to have my stronger friends be my shields from people that have attacked me in the past. Or maybe its the minions that come to protect me, to get rid of the dangerous people. With being afraid of others abandoning me either from death or finding a better friend I would choose people that either were nice to me before I became a witch or people that I took as non aggressive, just seem nice and capture them. Being mentally warped I would go to make them not leave me ever, the ones that were dying would be turned into dolls while the normal not dying ones would be stuck in a trance just walking non stop until I need their company then back to walking again they go.
It being castle because castles are huge and seem to have endless rooms and I love fantasy settings. No idea my look though but that wasn't in the question and I am not creative enough to think up something like that at 1 Am. I love making mini story background ideas like these though.

I think Sonovia's magical girl form showed up in the Godoka's salvation montage. She was a girl with a teddy bear soul gem and she was in an industrial setting.
That could be true. But Zenobia’s Grief Seed from the Magia Record anime has a Saturn shape on the top and not a teddy bear. But you never know. I do think that would be cool.

Actually, for Durbar, I think her design, her labyrinth, and the fact that her nature is "a living god" actually refers to her being a "Kumari". According to Wikipedia, "A Kumari is a tradition of worshipping young prepubescent girls as manifestations of the divine female energy or Devi in Asian religious traditions.", and when you search the image on google, the girls look very similar to Durbar's design as a witch ( the eye, the crown (?), the chair...). Also, I believe that the "uncleanliness" that she is continually trying to wash away is her menstrual blood, because a Kumari who has her first menstrual cycle is considered "impure," and hence unable to become a goddess. As the result, her seed hatch because she foresees the hardships in the future when she is no longer a goddess.

the one about Stacey I made some times ago, so I would like to share it.
In her human life, she came from a really poor family, that for continuing to live needs Stacey to find a job as soon as she finishes school. This necessity goes against her desire to keep studying in a university. So, she spends her time on the school roof, dreaming about her ideal future and hoping for a miracle. This made her family life harder , since they started to critique her for "beign lazy and not giving priority to her family". Her Soul Gem hatched during the last day of High school, on the roof , when she realised she couldn't follow, in any way, her dreams.
In Japan you have White Day and Valentines Day! On White Day the girls or people in general who got chocolate or gifts usually give something back to the person they got it from! Maybe the chocolate witch wanted to give her crush chocolate and was rejected. That would explain why she turned into chocolate and why her minions wait for her to be accepted. That's really sad and heartbreaking 😭 No proof for this one but maybe her whole wish just involved her crush in general, like Sayaka's did

In case you idn't know...
(SPOILERS)
Matasaburo's Witch Kiss resembles the Black Feathers from Wings of Magius, as she is one herself (she's the candy that's covered in the cloak). The eye is most likely a reference to the pendant that the members wear, which is a Rumor that allows the leaders to control the members if they ultimtely ever need to do so (I know the pendant is meant to resemble Eve but it still holds the same context). Her whole theme being chocolate is how she's specific to the Valentine Event with Homura, where Kuro (the witch's MG form) is trying to gain courage so she can give chocolate to the boy she likes. All we know is that she was in the same hospital as Homura at the time, and she turned into a Witch after being bullied.
She was most likely the same as Homura, with her wish being similar to Sayaka's. It would have to involve chocolate, so I'm thinking maybe she wished to make the best chocolate ever for her crush. I'm guessing the bullying was a mix of her being the 'shy girl' with no friends, and her actually confessing her feelings to her crush by giving them the chocolate (she didn't directly say anything to them because of their shy nature).
And with her being a part of the Wings of Magius, it means she already knows about what Witches really are...so that could've played a big factor in things. She could've confessed because she knew that she'd eventually turn into a Witch anyways, but was still too shy to actually say it so giving them chocolate was enough. When someone else found out, they ganged up on her and she turned into a Witch from whatever they did to her.
The sad part is that she is by far the worst MG in the game's lineup (extremely weak and is forever capped at 1*). Not to mention that she was only put together and released within the week after the event happened, meaning she didn't even get the same level of care as every other MG. I know they say that everyone will eventually get their Doppels in the game, but I don't know about Kuro being included in that.
Reading this a year later realizing it might be the Kuro from the Magia Record Anime, so sad
I feel like that Zenobia was this girl who was forced to "mature" earlier than how she should, and was constantly expected to be, well, mature, since it's stated that she "Looks like a lady but acts childish". I feel like as a human, Zenobia had to keep up a mature image, however, she still felt like a child and making sand castles was something she loved to do, but couldn't as it was deemed "childish". I guess her wish might have been to be able to make sand castles for a while (maybe by freezing time to do so (unlikely) or by wishing someone that a certain spot on the beach was always empty). Anyways, your theory on the beach getting something built on it seems to be correct, maybe she wished so that there's this one spot where no one would glance at so she can do whatever she wants, and seeing that spot being destroyed would make her a witch. This is just a theory, so it may not be accurate.
The manga exclusive witches would be cool for another part.
Honestly, I think that some of the witches we see didn't turn into witches beacause of grief and negative feelings, but, simply, bcause they wasted all of their magic and couldn't purify their soul gems on time:
take Rebecca, for example, a lot of peaple think that she discovered the truth about everything and, too scared of becoming a witch, she eventually turned into one, but if that was the case, wouldn't she start to dedicate more time on witch hunting and get the more grief seeds she could, so that she actually wouldn't turn into a witch? I think that she was just scared that a witch might attack her in her sleep, so she wasted all of her magical energy by staying awake all the time, draining all of her physical, mental and magical energy, thus turning into a witch.
Gisela, probably, after a gang fight, where she got defeated and wasted too much magic, runned away, but it was too late and her soul gem was almost completly dark, so she couldn't go witch hunting for a grief seed and the only thing she could do was stare out into the sunset, waiting for her demise.
My guess for gisela is that her gang was caught in a gang war with another(possibly a stronger or larger gang) and lost, she was the only one to escape and felt like a coward, possibly breaking down on the beach and saying things along the lines of “I wish I was able to have helped more!” Or “I wish I was the only one who needed to die!”
I remember reading about the needle witch on the wiki and I think I saw something else than what you see. Her ability to change forms and her clothing theme seem to hint that unlike other magical girls, she changes her outfits all the time and can handmake her outfits (making her a cosplayer). She never hated Kyubey, heck she respected him and understood the cycle of life to the point that she was willing to sacrifice herself and become a witch to save the world. I kind of like the idea that maybe Matasaburo (while realistically is probably just a recoloring) was a friend of Candy's. She isn't a real bunny-eared witch. She's chocolate, disposable CANDY bunny. She isn't a major player, she's a minor role. Candy always wanted the attention on her, and Matasaburo was always in her shadows, mimicking her to try and be accepted and fit in like her friend. Because of that, she felt she could never be accepted by anybody as her true self, having her fall into despair and become a true copy of her friend.

I think Candy could have been a girl whose parents were well-off and spoiled her slightly, but also pushed her into doing certain activities she wasn't fond of - most prominently ballet.
Her wish could have had something to do with being better at it to please her parents, who always interpreted her dislike of the dance classes as her being 'bratty' and 'ungrateful' to the point that she actually internalised that thought about herself. When she was dancing, dressed as a ballerina, her mother always told her she was the 'personification of cuteness', but as she grew it happened less and less... which is why she would try to improve her skills at something she didn't even like - to try and gain some acceptance back from her parents.
The spiked teddies make me think that maybe her Grief Seed hatched when her parents, still not pleased with her dislike of what they thought was 'best' for her, took away and possibly destroyed some of her possessions as a punishment - mostly likely things she'd had for a long time and was very attached to.
Please do a part 3! Cause I would love seeing you explain Ophelia, Candeloro, and Homully puls the dopples and the witches from the manga. By the way, amazing work in the first and this one! Hope you have a nice day! :>

with rebecca, i think the hints to sleeping beauty says alot about her. as in the sleeping beauty story, everything possible is done to prevent the princess from pricking her finger but it happened anyways. it leads me to believe that rebecca tried everything possible to prevent her becoming a witch, but it ended up still happening despite her efforts
Awesome video! As a side note, 10:40 reminds me of some boardwalk festival grounds on the U.S. east coast, like Conie (sp?) Island, that still have wooden rollercoasters and triangular flags. I find your interpretation very interesting though.
Albertine is Yuma. It seems like they keep trying to sidestep revealing Yumas witch by any means possible, and it makes sense she would be Yuma; She has the youth and rocky home life to boot
Matasaboro's kiss appears to have three elements, an eye, a candy, and a black veil. Going off of the few things we know, I believe she had a crush on somebody: having "eyes" for them. However, she was likely a quiet girl and saw herself as insignifigant. On valentines day, she had made this person chocolate, but they had rejected it. This pretty much crushed her self esteem, and was made worse when she saw another girl confess. At this point, she probably had contracted with QB in order to hide herself under a "veil". But because she could change her personality and appearance at will, she no longer had any personality at all, and people forgot her. I think the boy might have died in a car crash around white day while delivering chocolate to the other girl (hence the candy) and she fell into despair after realising that she would remain unnoticed by everyone until the end, as the magic hadnt changed the real her, but hid it underneath a veil, and this brought her into despair. I don't believe that it's as simple as a recolour, I think she is actually MIMICKING Stacey and Candy, because she doesnt even remember who she was. The recolours are a hint that the real witch has been "veiled" away. And I think the reason she mimicks those two specifically is because she knew them in some capacity. Perhaps they were teammates and Matasaburo saw them BOTH turn into witches, to which she turned her eyes and eventually "veiled" away the memories of it.
As for Shin... I believe she may be older than Gisela; In the Edo period and Meiji periods (although I don't know how far back the tradition actually goes and when it was made illegal) poor families would often sell their children to rich families to babysit their children (which is also the basis of many japanese lullabies). These rich families would often live far away and be very abusive towards the babysitters, treating them more like their own slaves than their child's nanny. The children knew that their family needed the money though, to be able to afford food. They could only see their family once a year too, during Obon. So it's likely that between fighting witches, getting kicked around by her owners, having to watch this kid AND doing errands, she was barely holding together as-is, and losing the kid in the river was likely the final nail in the coffin. I can only think that she wouldve left the kid there in the first place was that a witch was nearby, and she couldn't risk the child's life, so she left them after tying them up, so they wouldn't escape. Unfortunately, they did, and when she came back, the rest was history

For the witch that is just a recoloration, I feel as if she is ashamed of she she is as she was never accepted by someone, the cloth covering the chocolate is something she hides behind, as the chocolate resembles her true self, the eye shape is peacock like because it symbolizes the fact the she tries to get noticed by others.

The witch of chocolates gives me the vibes that she wanted to copy/be seen as someone else. A specific person. That’s why her form and labyrinth are recolors and personally her witches kiss reminds me of a veil. Veils hide your true face. As a magical girl she probably could either blend in into her surroundings (I can’t imagine switching forms would be impactful on any witch b/c they aren’t really that smart or have any memories that could be triggered by special forms, i.e. a friend they knew etc.) or shapeshift. This would make her very OP but considering she is the final Puella magi from somewhere..I can imagine that she would make the wish to become like someone she looked up to. Maybe a popstar (teenage years are the most intense when it comes to celebrity worship after all) or someone she knew personally (maybe it’s a similar situation to sayaka and she wanted to become like the person her crush liked in hopes of attracting him) . I can imagine that a so blunt wish would result into something very powerful but also disastrous. I am guessing she lost the “true her” and even if she did end up with people that liked her because she changed it never felt earned because that’s an artficial verson of herself. As a witch she is trapped as a form that is also merely an already existing version of something else and never to be seen as an original beeing.
I don’t know about the chocolate though...maybe making chocolates was her way to try and be more liked amongst her peers before she met kyubey but I like the idea that whoever she looked up also made chocolates as a hobby (or if it’s a celebrity they probably had an add where they pretend to cook to advertise some company’s chocolates) and she started inspired by that. Overtime she became better and making chocolate became a way of self-expressing to her. And when she started to feel as if she wasn’t beeing or feeling like herself anymore, making chocolate was the one thing that felt like she was still herself (because prior to the wish she had been making them), she even tried to move away from the chocolate that her idol had made/advertised and make something original only to realise...everything that she tried to make herself without inspiration looked terrible. And the one’s she “copied” looked and tasted exactly the same as her idol’s chocolates...realising that she didn’t seem to be able to do anything that was original and truly her, the chocolate witch despaired.

I believe the chocolate witch was a magical girl who could copy the appearance of others, maybe even other magical girls. Maybe her wish was to become someone else or to be more like other people, giving her this power. However, she was too weak to fight the witches like the others could, and although she would face some witches, she would end up running away. She hated herself for this, eventually turning into a witch that was a false copy of other witches.
Matasaburo is said to be the witch form of a Black Feather (Wings of the Magius) named Kuro. She apparently debuted in a Valentine's Day event, and eventually became a playable character because people liked her so much.
I don't know too much about it because it's in Japanese and I don't feel like looking up a translation, but it'll be interesting when it gets officially translated, I want to know more about her!!!
I have a theory about itzli. Basically I think she was transformed into a magical girl before kyubei came to earth. Maybe he thought itzli and ger kind could be the one to give the emotional energy he needed.
He choose itzli as the first magical girl but maybe he realized that their emotional strength wasn’t enough… and he left her behind alone forever. And maybe the fact he abandoned her for not being good enough caused her to become a witch
