    I just finished up MWC K with my 5 year old, I really loved it. We took it slow but she's grasped so much! I'm not sure she's ready yet for level 1 so we might just review but I'm sticking with it. Love seeing your picks so helpful! I'm going to look into the Pals program!

    We’re doing Kindergarten this year with my second kiddo and using MWC and HWOT. 👍 He also LOVES memorizing poems! Edward Lear, Christina Rossetti, and Robert Louis Stevenson have been some of his favorites.
    Also, the youngest kiddo definitely absorbs a ton by observing! I can’t believe how much my 2.5 year old already knows about letters, numbers, and pencil grip 😮 just by being nearby while I teach her brothers. It may be her personality though… I have a feeling her motto will be “Anything you can do, I can do better.” 🤣

    My youngest wanted to do school earlier!!! We will still have a kindergartener till end of the year and probably start her with 1st grade in January!!! We loved the get ready for the code books!!! I feel at this age exposure is awesome!!! We love creative fabrica!!! My youngest prefers practicing writing instead of handwriting curriculums tho!!! I work with her 1 to 1 for writing!!! We love learning thru play with her!!!

    I enjoy your content. Thank you for putting it out there. I feel led by the Holy Spirit to homeschool my kids. One is 3, and the other will turn 2 this week. I wasn't homeschooled and don't personally know anyone who was. So viewing your content is really encouraging and helps me in trying to figure out what direction to go in.

    Hello thank you so much for the video! I am curious on your thoughts about all about reading pre reading. I noticed you didn’t select it, but you recommend other AAR products. Thanks so much for your kinder picks and many other videos!

      So I am not a huge fan of AAR pre reading. I am not against it but I feel there are comparable curriculums that are way cheaper. I do love all the older levels of AAR and do believe those are well worth it.

      @@LifeintheMundane thank you so much for your honest input! I just got one for a pretty good price (used) and after all the repetition with 100 easy lessons and no games I am hoping this will be a better fit for my youngest; we also chose malty with confidence and she is loving it! I love it too; this is the first math curriculum for my kids k-8th grade that I have just LOVED! 💗
      Anyway, I am hoping and praying AAR pre reading works out for us since it is structured similarly to math with confidence.
      And also thank you for your who is God series reviews. I am still a new Christian and have personally learned so much using those books with my children. We completed blue last year and moving into who am I (red) this year. I will probably have to cycle my two youngest back through the series at a later date. But they both are present and gleaning much from it now.

    Great video, I was wondering what helps you determine what topics and things to have your children to work on or the things they should know? I find myself looking through websites like TPT or just googling. Last night I joined Creative Fabricia and was looking through the material through grade levels and I panicked a little because there are certain things, they have that my child should know in those grade levels that they don't know and I get anxious trying to figure out how to jump in, introduce and start teaching them those things. Most of the time I'm like maybe we should just go all the way to the beginning of that grade level or maybe the level before that one to learn certain concepts then I start researching cramming my brain with things lol get overly stimulated and end up doing nothing because I'm not sure where to begin smh. I'm ready to end this cycle and start teaching. Any tips you may have i have my note pad and pencil ready.

      So for every age group I focus on the basics of Bible, reading, and math. Then I insert other subjects and concepts where it seems appropriate for my child. If you want to get an idea of what kids are typically taught at a specific age you can definitely google it and get ideas. That being said just know that you don’t have to follow anyone’s list. There will be trial and error involved but you will find a good balance as you go. Teaching kids a love of learning and how to learn will help equip them for any gaps that might happen, bc if they need it in the future they will have the drive and know how to find what they need.

    Question for you about the Apologia notebooking journals - I've watched another of your videos (probably from a couple years ago, so it's been awhile) where you said you didn't bother using the notebooking journals. What made you change your mind? I am curious because we're moving on to Zoology 2 next year and I have been contemplating whether or not to get them 😂

      Sometimes I use them sometimes I don’t. It depends on the unit and the kids. I’ve honestly found that for the more abstract topics like space or animal ones it’s helpful. Botany and chemistry and physics were more hands on so I didn’t need them as much.

      Unfortunately I had to cut back on what I was putting out and decided there were other helpful bible reading plans out there so I am no longer putting those out but I would love to return to making them in the future.

    Hi! Do you have a handwriting curriculum that you like to use for the first few years of school? I have a 6 and 5 year old I’ll be homeschooling this year and I have heard good about Hand writing without tears curriculum and also a Reason for Handwriting curriculum. Thanks for any advice!

      I personally love iew primary arts of language writing program it covers handwriting and beginning composition skills.

    Katie, I have a question. My oldest is going to be in Kindergarten as well this coming school year. I have been torn about what I should do for language arts. She is what I think people call a natural reader. She has loved ABCs since she was 1 and already knows all her ABCs sounds and she just took off with reading.
    I am currently going through the Abeka Handbook for Reading as of recent for a gentle introduction to formal reading instruction and we have been reading through the Usborne First Library Co-readers. I have also been using Heart of Dakota's Little Hands to Heaven Preschool curriculum this year.
    What do you think might be good options for this situation?

    • @LifeintheMundane
      @LifeintheMundane  Рік тому

      Quick question before I give my recommendations. As she is reading do you get the sense it’s more of a sight word approach or do you feel like she is understanding phonics rules? Also do you have a strong desire to have her understand phonics rules? There are no right or wrong answers here. I just want to make sure I give you ideas that will help you achieve your goals for her.

    • @amiewood2769
      @amiewood2769 Рік тому +1

      Oh good point! Yes, I believe she is reading more by sight words. But, she is understanding the phonics that she knows so far with basic blends and such. And she is catching on quickly.
      Yes, I would like a phonics approach.
      So far I considered getting Explode The Code level 1 but I don't know what else I should do.

      @@amiewood2769 Okay great. If All about reading is something your interested in I would take a placement test she may place into level 2 where they work on more complex phonics rules. Or if you are looking for another reading program we really like PAL program from IEW it is a really good blend of phonics and sight words and there is a lot to keep her busy with.

    • @amiewood2769
      @amiewood2769 Рік тому

      Thank you. I have considered All about reading but did not know they had a placement test. And I have seen you videos on PAL and it looks nice as well. Okay I will compare those two and see what we end up with. Thank you so much for taking your time to help. I am a beginning homeschool mom with 2 kids so far and no background or experience in this whatsoever and have been relying on the homeschool mom youtube community to learn from.
