Happy New Year, Leah! I found your Floss Tubes because of your Advent Calendars unboxing videos- so happy that I did. I had considered both of those 2 Advent Calendars, and ultimately chose not to order either one. Because of the costs, especially when you add international shipping, since I live in the USA (Texas). I told myself that I would treat myself to a couple of new projects or kits, once I finish a few I’m working on. I also joined the Caterpillar kit subscription and really liked the Christmas themed one designed by Emma Congdon, which I haven’t started yet, but passed on the Easter theme one, not really wanting to spend as much time as it would take to stitch Easter egg design. We’ll see what the next one will be- they ship every 2 months, so will be in March. Anyway, happy stitching- I’ll bet Graham will do a better job curating a cross stitch box for you, because it will be done from the heart, trying to please you, not trying to please a wide spectrum of people. Tell him to message me if he needs any ideas. Take care.
Happy new year!! 😊 I love what you did - I wish that I had saved my money and treated myself to a few kits, rather than what I got! I’ve certainly learned an invaluable lesson! I go back and forth with the Caterpillar boxes, I got the Emma Congdon one, too, but I haven’t gotten the Easter one, it hasn’t even been test-stitched which is disappointing and I’m not mad keen on Easter overall. They have a book related one coming I think which I will get, but they’re not always worth the money either sadly! Have a lovely weekend xx
Thanks for your reviews. I almost bought the CCS advent calendar and I’m really glad I didn’t. I’ve bought beauty advent calendars in the past and those always list the contents before you purchase, so you know what you’re getting. I know some people argue that this spoils the surprise, however contents are released so early (summer), that by the time you open them in December you pretty much forget what’s in the one you bought (I do, anyway!)! And you don’t have to look if you don’t want to, but for people for whom it’s a lot of money to spend, the option is there. I’d never buy an expensive calendar without knowing for sure that the items I’d actually use are worth the cost of the calendar - the total ‘value’ they state means nothing if you won’t use the £80 item in there. Not stating contents means they can get away with putting multiple filler items in them. Also, just because I love a brand, it doesn’t mean I’ll want to stitch whatever pattern they produce, so cross stitch calendars are risky from that point of view too - I already have lots of patterns and kits waiting that I’ve chosen to purchase. I think I’ll stick to buying the needle minders as and when I ‘need’ a new one.
I really like that idea, I love the surprise of it don’t get me wrong, but if I’d known ahead of time that the Historical Sampler Co one was mostly paper crafts I 100% wouldn’t have purchased it. So I can see why that would be a good thing! Cross stitch advents calendars are so, so risky; it’s very disappointing as I expected greatness but it was so very disappointing overall, it’s very strange how so people go so crazy for them now that I’ve had them because I’d rather spend the money elsewhere!
Thank you for the summary…I watched every day so I wasn’t surprised by the comments. I have never invested in an advent calendar that was this expensive. I think it is a fabulous idea to make the calendars for each other and can’t wait to watch.
Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it! I won’t be getting one next year I don’t think, I haven’t fully decided but I definitely won’t be getting the Historical Sampler one!
Ah I’m so gutted for you and everyone who spent their hard-earned money on those advent calendars. I would have been mega disappointed too! Apologies for not keeping up with the unboxing videos, I got overwhelmed!
I have 2 adult daughters who both stitch. Three years ago we invested in the Stitchybox Deluxe Advent calendar. It cost us $200 plus shipping from the USA to Canada. We were SO DISAPPOINTED! It was a HUGE waste of money. So we decided between us to swap cross stitch advent calendars. After our second year of swapping advent boxes, they are Sooooo much fun! I would recommend to anyone, that if you can get a bunch of friends together, set a limit and swap advent boxes between you xxxx
That’s such a wonderful idea! I love that you do that, and that’s why Graham’s going to make me one next year because there is no way I’ll be disappointed with whatever he gets, so I’m very, very excited! Xx
I got the Textured Treasures advent and it was only 12 days but all cross stitch. I picked the option with more accessories so got needle minder, very pretty floss and one lovely advent kit.
Ooo I haven’t heard of that one, I’m going to look into it because that does sound fantastic! I may do a viewer poll for which advent calendar I should get next year to compare with my home made one!
I like you because you’re honest, this is one of the reason why I watch you, I love real people. The advent was a huge disappointment but I’ve learnt my lesson now, you lightened the mood of the disappointment for me because you were so funny about it, the faces you pulled made my day 😂 Have a great week ❤ ps you’re so lucky Graham is making you a calendar, that is just so sweet of him.
Thank you Michelle, your comments really mean a lot! I’ve learned my lesson as well, it was an expensive lesson but that’s how it goes sometimes sadly! I’m so excited for Graham’s calendar I know he’s going to smash it! Have a lovely weekend Michelle xx
Hello Leah. I am really thankful for such an honest review, I have been tempted by both of these advent calendars in the past and am now thankful that I didn’t get them. They are a lot of money and I will now spend it on cross stitch items more suitable to our fantastic hobby 😃. Great video, I look forward to seeing more so keep them coming please.
Thank you so much for commenting! I wish I had spent my money on more things for cross stitch rather than the advent calendars, but I’ve definitely learned a valuable lesson! 😊
Hi Leah, I agree with everything you,ve said, I've had 2nd thoughts on the advent boxes and they're certainly not worth it. Looking forward to seeing Graham's advent box that he's going to make for you and I'm sure he'll put a lot more into it, you never know we all might put orders in😅 thankyou Leah for the lovely video, and thankyou for your honest opinion it really helps, take care 😊
Thank you for watching Pauline! ❤️ I’ve definitely had second thoughts too, sometimes you get the fear of missing out but I have the fear of wasting my money so I’ve definitely learned a lesson! I’ve told Graham he’ll be having people wanting him to make one for him too! 😅😂 have a lovely weekend Pauline xx
Very interesting video yeh stick to making your own advent callenders atleast be better gifts thats worth receiving cant wait to see them im sure graham will do an amazing job real honest video xx
I'm going to have to go and watch your unboxing videos now. I watched an American lady unboxing the Caterpillar one with great enthusiasm 😂 I had a Bothy Threads one last year. You'd have loved the day of the travelodge biscuits and a teabag. Or the three lindor balls. Facey groups raving about them of course. That said the actual projects were really lovely. They have confirmed that this year there are no food items and it will be all cross stitch. Last year there were some embroidery projects too. I've got the FOMO so I've ordered it again. Hoping it won't be full of tears and disappointment 😂 New subscriber for you in any event so all good! Xx
Oh I hope you enjoy the unboxings! They’re quite a watch I will say 😂😂 travelodge biscuits *sigh* is this really the best they can come up with??? I saw they’d announced no food items, which is a good step because so many people have allergies and stuff so it’s best to just keep them out! I hope this years is amazing! Xx
Love that Graham is going to make you an advent- I cannot wait to see your reaction next Flossmass❤️❤️❤️ And I would be completely up for a zoom sometime, it would be so much more fun than paying to be in a zoom with complete strangers
He’s the best, Katie, honestly! I would love to do a zoom with you! I’ll message you on Instagram because I’m also talking of doing one with Stephanie and Allison and we may as well do it all together ❤️
