AC Unit Buzzing Noise - How to Install an Emerson SureSwitch to Stop Noise

  • Is your AC unit buzzing, humming, or makes a clunk sound every time it starts? Those noises are likely made by the contactor. In this video I show how to install an Emerson SureSwitch or how to replace a contactor in a condenser unit. (basically instructions on how to install an "upgraded contactor" in an air conditioner step by step). These are great if you have frequent brown-outs in your area, bugs constantly getting into the contactor contacts, a noisy contactor, or if you often replace your contactor because of voltage fluctuations.

    Nice video, best upgrade you've ever done to an AC, no chatter noise when it start up/shutdown, and sure will last longer than the unit itself since there's no mechanical wear out like regular contact. Sad it's not widely recommended by the tech. Anything that reduces the service call is not welcomed by the industry.

    What a PERFECT way to start the Saturday morning coffee sipping ritual! You're too funny there buddy! I live for the "...and if you're still here and not in the comments section." Like a toy in the Cracker Jack box waiting to be found. Thanks Jay. This was a great video as I've been replacing my controller frequently over the years and this is a GREAT solution. Hope you, the family, the geckos and tropical plants are all well. Not so much for the Palmettos! Love to you all buddy and thanks so much for all the time you take to make such great videos! I really appreciate you!

      Haha thank you Patrick! Good to know that some people enjoy those endings which are, at times, sub-par ':) Glad I was able to show you a great solution! There's a good chance you won't need to replace the controller ever again :) Things are going great over here! Geckos are thoroughly terrified of my son and we are harvesting some fruits and grasses in the back. Luckily no more palmettos in the house but I did spend 20 minutes in the middle of the night catching a rat. Bought a Honda Accord yesterday (probably paid more than I should have - live and learn.. Makes me want to make a video on what to look out for when buying a car) Today we went to the beach for the first time which had some giant waves! Being sent flying/tumbling with arms and legs flailing all over was refreshing. I loved it. Wife and son didn't share my sentiment.. Anyway, thank you for watching our videos and enjoying them! We appreciate the love and comments! God bless you and family!!

Once I buy a house here in Hawaii, I hope to install a minisplit system then and that will be a test subject for many of my videos :) And Carl, I seldom worked on minisplit units in the last couple of years so I don't have a good answer for you as to which brand is best.. Haven't exactly worked on a large variety of them.

      Yeah.. There's that too but I have heard from more than one person that the sureswitch did wonders for them. Folks that replaced their contactor 2-3 times a year claim they no longer have to replace it ever since they put the sureswitch in. Or bugs still getting into sealed contactors but problem solved with the sureswitch. Etc.

      Sounds like a very relaxing environment, just the 3 of you resting at home. Yes, I agree that it's a miracle that Bigfoot is still going strong! (from everything you told me in previous comments) He must really love being with you and Arnold so he is not willing to give up the fight. I only hope the good health and happy mood continues! Do continue to enjoy the serene time that you get to spend together at this junction in life. You are making memories worth treasuring! And the simple delicious foods like fried taters makes it all the better! :)

    I'm guessing the larger contactor here has actual larger contact points to aid in longer lasting use. Am i right ?

      I don't believe so, the contactor is solid state.

      Honestly, it's a little hard to explain the science behind it but in this old video, the guy explains it real well: ua-cam.com/video/F_JH41nHdf4/v-deo.html

    Using only one screw to secure is leading to trouble if vibrations loosen it. Not twisting the wires before before putting them under the lugs and not cutting the crimp connectors off before putting them under the lugs is questionable. The video/tutorial in all is very good and informative. Keep up the good work.

      It will more than likely be ok.

      @WordofAdviceTV  4 роки тому +3

      Those are all valid observations, thank you for pointing them out! Optimally I should have used at least 2 screws but since the old contactor was on only one screw I simply just reused that one screw and it was on there really tight. As for crimping the connectors.. I have always done that and have never had a problem before but it is probably better to cut off the connectors and strip the wires as you say.

      @@WordofAdviceTV I know this is just my opinion, but I agree that L1&2 should have been twisted but I don't cut off the fork terminals either. I figure it's a much more solid thing for the terminal screw to tighten up against

    This video inspired me. Got Emerson unit installed on my 20 year old compressor unit, thanks to your video. The delay function got me worried that I had done something wrong, but the unit ran after a couple of minutes. Next, will be the 5-2-1 cap for my compressor.
