I have the Nike Terra Kiger 8's and were going to run in them for a race this past weekend.... and well Upon arrival and as my friend and I started to stretch I realized I left my shoes at home…..I quickly checked my trunk (as runners we usually have a pair laying around) and there were none in there just Vans….. then I remembered a favorite quote of mine from endurance athlete Jesse Itzler - “You didn't come this far just to get this far!” So with about 20 minutes until start time I scrabbled to the top-of-the-line shoe store open at 7:45 also known as Walmart and grab a pair of Avia shoes never heard of or seen before this day. Made it back at the end of the race brief time to load the water bottles and boom we were off!!! Won my age group and had a blast! As it was said on Friday night lights - It doesn't matter what shoes are on you
Stoked for the new series. I wish I could do something like that with every pair of shoes before I commit to buy. I guess watching you do it is the next best thing.
Congrats Ethan, that was an awesome start to the new series, great getting your first impressions and lovely seeing the trails. Looking forward to seeing more!
Holy cow that was an amazing video. Beautifully shot, and so informative. Being able to see and almost experience your home turf is so much fun. I’m blown away. Many thanks!
Great new series! I've had my Pulsar Trail for a couple of weeks and have just over 100 miles in them. I've been running in the Sense Ride 4 and also have the Ultra Glide. The Pulsar Trail are now my go to. I love that new plate as it helps it become more responsive for what I call a very cushy shoe. These will see many more miles than the Ultra Glides and compliment the Sense Rides. Long runs for sure will be done in the Pulsar Trail.
Love this type of content after my first Ragnar relays in Colorado! Ran in the Speedgoat 5’s and they impressed me so much especially downhill I never slipped once on fast mountain bike trails and while the race was difficult I never felt like the shoes let me down, which surprised me as I had some discomfort in my break in runs prior to the drive up the mountains. Others on my team had issues with their toes on their Hoka’s but I did not, as I suffered no blisters or hot spots, and my only issue after the race was some soreness on the lateral edge of my left foot where I hit some really sharp rocks on a heavily cambered trail during my descents.
I love this!! This is FRESH AF 🔥🔥 So cool seeing you test them in the wild. Can’t wait for the upcoming videos in this series! Also, I’m totally gonna add this loop into my Strava 😁
This was awesome. Thank you. Great video. Can't wait for the next one. I love the Terra Kigers. I've run short races and long races in them, including the Squamish 50km and I've backpacked the gnarly, muddy West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island wearing them. They've always worked great for me.
This is FANTASTIC!! Your Trail Tested initiative connects the spirit of the trails. Look forward to new episodes. Note: content, video and audio are superb. Congratulations!
This is a great idea... awesome to see how these shoes perform "out of the box" Very much looking forward to this series. And also getting to see the amazing trails on there.
Really love the new series! Looking forward to future installments. Getting your true first impression in real time offers great insights into how the shoes perform. Plus, I get some new trail running ideas!!
Love this series! One of the things I loved about Ethan's race movies was the feeling of running with him and this style of review/first impression rocks. Hoping he does road shoes as well. Call it "Road Rush!!" LOL
I love this format and getting to hear your immediate thoughts as you're first trying out a shoe! "I think that was good!" too! 😅 Kudos to Darin and awesome work on this cool new series! 🥳
Very nice...enjoyed the video and putting them lightly head to head ...I wonder who will come out with a trail shoe named Forester...first. It seems that a good percentage of trail-running folks drive that model.
Love this new format so much fun to go along for a "regular" run. I'm pretty high on the Pulsar Trail so far. First Salomon that I've had success with. Still need more runs (especially over 20 mi) in them but they're super promising.
I loved this video and new series of yours. Phenomenal. It was nice to see the some of the trails you run in a part of the country I have never been. Two quick questions: what shorts were your wearing for you run? And what were those grey shoes you slipped out of at the trailhead. Both looked very comfortable.
Trail Tested is a fantastic concept for a series! Looking forward to more episodes. Also, can we expect a video for the 22 Tiger Claw? I know the editing can take a while, I'm anxious to see it though!
My take after 2 10 mile runs on mixed terrain with the Pulsar Trail, 1 run after heavy rain (door to trail, gravel, MTB trail, forest road, more or less like your loop) : this is not a light shoe, in my US10 305 gr., after changing the cheapish insole 315gr. (with Boomerang insole from Inov8) It's also not the softest shoe, more the firmer Salomon from years ago. Fit is good, neither too precise nor too wide, heel lock is okay, could be better but difficult with the Quick Laces. Forward propulsion works, for runnable stuff excellent, faster running without pushing harder, legs feel fresher, nice one ! Shoe is stable and protective, still no shoe for real technical terrain but technical sections should be no problem. After all I think this is one of the better shoes for sure, quite versatile, at least for the more runnable trails. One big negative though, wet grip is disappointing, several slippages, not a big fan of Contragrip in wet anyway, but together with the shallow lugs it's even worse, at least on the wet stones in the Black Forest. This might differ in other areas. To put this into relation, the compound of the North Face Vectiv-line grips better under those conditions (also 3,5 mm lugs). But as no shoe seems to be perfect, I guess this one is very good under the right circumstances and for the price definitely a bargain these days, Ingo, Germany
Thanks for sharing ypur thoughts. How would you compare the ride of TNF Vectiv against the Salomon ? I'm hesitating between the Pulsar Trail and the Vectiv Enduris 2.
@@bstdsc9079 I can compare to the Vectiv Enduris 1 and the Vectiv Infinite, difficult though, I like all 3. I would say cushion in the Pulsar Trail is similar or even a tad more than in the Enduris, quite a bit more cushion than the Infinite. Enduris runs heavier, Infinite similar. Toe box of the 2 TNF suits me better, more room. Upper of Infinite is perfect, Salomon runs a bit warmer. I think I could go the longest in the Salomon, best compromise of cushion and weight, Infinite a close second, but due to the rocker just not as cushioned (running forefoot though)...hope this helps, cheers
This is an awesome new series, love it! Just joined the Patreon - stumbled on the channel after being recommended the Gary Robbins Barclay Marathons doc (I'm a runner). You're bringing SO much value between the reviews and other content (wow are the Ask Coach Roche episodes worth it alone!), and I want to thank you for it! Keep at it!
Great looking varied route for the test Ethan. I'll look forward to trying out the Salomon's, they're available here in the UK in the next couple of weeks 🤞
Really impressive film. And great to see Seattle trails as my sister and family live there. I've had bad lack of grip experiences with nike grip previously as well, so this is really interesting. Great stuff. I wonder how they'd cope with some Scottish mud.
Hi Ethan. Great video as always! FYI - Your affiliate links to the Running Warehouse and Spring Energy website don't include your reference when you click them (i.e. the '?from=ginger' has not hyperlinked, so traffic you are sending them will not be attributed to you.
Thx for another great video. Can't wait for your full review of the Salomon Pulsar Trail to hear your thoughts and especially how it compares to the North Face Vectiv Enduris. Both seem similar on paper with 6 mm drop, plated with a pronounced rockered geometry and lower profile lugs.
Hope you enjoy the new series, Trail Tested! Had lots of fun putting this one together and showing off some of our home trails.
Very cool. It's nice to see the item in action. This with the in-studio stuff would be very cool to see. Nice work.
Would be good to see you from the front! :)

I'm doing that little jump high-five to my trail shoes every time I finish up a technical section from now on
Great video especially the camera work!
This format is rad! Keep it up! 🔥
Stoked for the new series. I wish I could do something like that with every pair of shoes before I commit to buy. I guess watching you do it is the next best thing.
Wow - what a beautiful scenery to run in.
Makes me want to sneak out of work early and head to Tiger mtn. Excited to see more videos in this series.
Good new concept. Most of those trails are great for just some nice cruising! Beautiful forest.
Already love this series. Great trail with a ton of variety for testing!
I'm here for the new format, Ethan! Happy summer!!
Favorite Ginger Runner so far. Great place for testing the shoes right out the box.
I must say, that's a great first impressions video for trail shoes. Good job, great idea!
Love this new series idea Ethan - a mix of your reviews and your trail running docs. Definitely keep up the good work!
I’m stuck in quarantine this weekend, and watching you romp around on Section/Talus is giving me life! More please!
I like the format.
Awesome new addition. Love this
What a great new series. I'm starting to get more into trails again, and I will consider grabbing On X. Beware the Boulders of foom!
Nice! And that Foom, it’ll get ya every time!
Yep, this is great very fresh keep these coming
Nice! Something fresh and different from the norm. Love it! Great job!
I love this format! I imagined it was pretty difficult, but it came out great. You provided really valuable insight.
Congrats Ethan, that was an awesome start to the new series, great getting your first impressions and lovely seeing the trails. Looking forward to seeing more!

Much appreciated! Glad you came along for the run :)
I have to say I like the new format!
Nice!
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Pls do more 🙏
Loving it. The camera work was awesome.
Fantastic! I love the format. First impression + head-to-head comparison is exactly how most of us shop when we go to a running store.

Yeah I’m definitely liking them more than ultra glides which flattened out super quickly for me
Your comment really sold me. Been fan of the ride since v1. Cant wait for it to be sold in my country
Love this first impressions format. It will be cool to see your first impressions and if and how your feelings change during your full reviews.
That’s sort of the goal. This gives viewers (and myself) two reference points. Fun metric!
Excellent Ethan! This series is going to be great

IPOS in the house! Great new series.
Nice re-invention of the shoe review concept, this feel fresh, like it
Nice, glad you dig!
I really enjoyed the new format. It was spontaneous and informative.
Props on the new series! It's gonna be a win!

Come run em sometime!
Awesome new format, loved it, definitely do it some more

but what shorts are those?
Saysky out of Copenhagen!
Loving this style of review, wireless mic worked so well, and huge shout out to Darin for the awesome camera work on that terrain! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Solid initial review and loving the new format 👍
I got to run in the redwoods for the first time coming from CO, it's amazing. I'm still enthralled with the slugs.
Great idea for a new series! Looking forward to many more. Thanks as always Ethan!

Love the new series!!!
Great new series ! 🎉
Creative format. Nice job!
Really enjoyed this new format 👍
Btw. The Nike Kiger 8 insoles are really excellent - if you take then out and put them in the Salomons they feel so much better.
