Thanks man. Yes trucks are getting nicer and nicer. But make no mistake this model is in the top 2 or 3 percent of luxury. I feel very fortunate to have her.
Love those Volvo's. Freightshakers are ok, but those Volvos are designed more for the drivers comfort and ease of operation. Oh and please post a vid of your new Prostar. Just happened to see one driving around base on tuesday and had work not been in the way would have chased it down to get some pics/climb inside(if the driver would have let me)
I miss driving for Swift, I just tried to get re-hired, but they claim the terminal here in Florida is full... My old truck numbers were 99055, 96283, and 302816. Oh well, I hope to be back on the road soon whether it be with or without Swift, but I would love to go back to them... Awesome company to work for in my opinion.
nice trk, i myself cant wait to get back on with swift, my old trk # was 99685 and i was out of lathrop,CA it was smaller a volvo 660 with the the green cummins (baby motor) again nice trk.. be safe out there driver im am known as the BOOGIEMAN
the 780 are nice i drove one for 2 years i was a trainer for the dreded crst but only one bad thing with them the sensors go way to quick and parts like the alt came off i was in flagstaff az other than that a great truck.nice truck you have there
hey nice truck!! i love the outer appearence of the volvos but when it comes to the sleeper i would much rather have the international prostar, but yours is actually every bit as good so i would be happy with either truck. :)
I drive a Volvo FH12 in europe and its now covered 600,000 miles in 6 years. We have never touched the engine or any of its running gear. The FH12 shares a lot of the running gear like the 780
also regarding your question about refrigerator and microwave,I run two to five different trucks per year, so moving into any one of them completely is impractical for my for my purposes.but I have been known to use a propane camp stove as well as the 12 Volt plugin lunch box oven for in truck meals.
I'm thinking Pedro wish he could work for swift and drive one if them nice Volvos.. Lol hey bulk as long as your happy driving for them keep doing what your doing.. Btw nice truck
yes im happy with swift.the miles are decent and the equipment is top of the line.i cant make a fair recommendtation of who to start with. i can only tell you swift worked out fine for me.
Very nice vid. Thanks. Can i ask how much fuel this baby uses alone without cargo. Would be cool to use as an everyday car. But hard to park here in Europe on small parking areas and narrow roads.
@ModeraterX yes swift has a rider policy but keep your record clean and when you hit 21 hit em up good way to earn your stripes in trucking. drove for em for two years left on good terms just wasnt for me anymore any other questions hit me up
probably in the wrecking yard by now, i got a tour of the swift wrecking yard one time, lots of trucks. nice truck low pay. i drive junker 78 peterbuilt for high pay,
been with them going on 4yrs now.theyre are things i like and things i dont like. but overall im pretty happy.but being out of the phoenix terminal helps.
Hello mate. Just wondering if Volvo US are fitting the i-shift gearbox into their trucks? What horsepower is that beastie? Too big for UK roads but very nice.
Actually most "company" trucks are govern to 63 mph anyway never had a problem pulling long grades they spec there trucks out pretty good. Started out with Swift Transportation They are all the same Swift, Werner, JB, Schneider My second year at Swift I made a respectful $58,000.00 in the North East region Ive moved on some really bad small companies some really good but for a company that gives you a driver number you still have the same DM/dispatcher and the feel of a smaller company.
and spent my whole life studying about trucks and heavy equipment and grew up driving and operating them like i first starte driving old equipment from the 40s-60s like a 1960s huber hd-4 road grader a cat d8 with the levers under the seat not at your chest from 1948 and a 1946 allis chalmers hd-6 track loader when i was 12 and also dump trucks and john deere backhoes
sorry man i always have a lot to say, Im an owner operator so i always get a rental that dealer pays for immediatly when truck fails, but as a company driver your better off with the lonestar, i dont know what swift pays for breakdown pay or if they even do, but im sure its not alot. May not have as nice of a cab, but the wheels will keep turning opposed to the volvo.
what year is that? mine has a fridge under the drawers, and the top drawer is a pullout sink, may just be options but i couldnt be picky, i wanted the midroof and had to fly to texas from CA to buy mine, i couldnt find a 730 anywhere.
@wtfmanicanthaveaname oh yeah the $160k in free warrentee work was done prior to hitting 200k miles, its finally running without too many issues other than severe power loss on hills. Who knows how much volvo payed in rental trucks for me. but i found out i can do a donut in a bobtail 670, love rentals lol. Back to the topic, every driver ive met with with the d13 or d16 has had the EXACT same issues I have at close to the same mileage. Be it the turbo or injector cups etc.
Is Swift changing their fleet to 780s? I'm about to start trucking school and will probably work for a company such as Swift during my first year. Them, or Werner, etc, based out of Phoenix. I'd sure love to pay my dues in this truck ,,,lol.
@thewun1 yea right, swift can't back standard, let alone blind side... 9 speed 450 hp ISX... Arrow Truck Sales is selling Swifts 780's but they convert them from 9-13
2009 or 2010? Cummin or Volvo power? I'm looking into the 2009 D13 with the 13 speed. Just researching service now, thats the one thing I hear about that is bad, but most of those posts are older. Nice truck.
@einherje71 around 7 1/2 mpg with an empty trailer.as for use in europe as an everyday car well....over 8 ft wide ,not including mirrors and 13' 6" high 18.000lbs bobtail.might not be practical LOL.
1 more question...why is your CB mounted on the dash? there is a pocket with the wires and clamp for it right above the windshield...probs on the ladder though, in mine i gotta jump up onto my top bunk or stand on the table, and trying to get off it in a tired sometimes hungover stuper can be a bitch lol. I want your ladder!
theres a placard between the hood and the door, leads me to think this isnt a cummins, and is a d13 or d16. if its the latter, how is it treating you now after a some use?i got a 2008 with a d16 its a 730, the midroof model of the same tractor and it aint worth a shit. Its had more warrantee work than its worth ($150k after financing). Also cummins or volvo engine aside i notice minor electrical probs on ever one i see, like the center visor light going out, leading to failure in the rest.
really...have you worked for all of them? working on 4yrs now. out of phoenix.cant be all bad.miles good ,trucks nice.checks cash.money spends. no prob.
Hey bunkhungry, nice truck, You didn't say what drive train you have or whether you have upgraded to an I-shift.. I'm out of school a few months ago and am stuck with a rattletrap 07 international with a clutch that fell out last week so I'm looking for a780 of my own to play with..Cupboards are nice but where is ur fridge and microwave oven not to mention your crockpot? Huh Where are those goodies EH? (canadian)
sorry for the late reply Greg,I have no kids. but if I did I'm certain I would enjoy taking them with me from time to time as your father does.I'm sure it's a great father son bonding opportunity. take advantage of these times. thanks for your inquiry.
since i was 16 and yes i know your suppost to be 18 and have a cdl but i was driving a family farm truck so i didnt have to have a cdl and could go to places within a 100 mile radius i started driving a 1995 volvo flattop but i really wish i had been driving a kenworth or a peterbilt,i mean the volvo gm was a pretty good truck it got the job done but it was so different than a kenworth or a peterbilt i grew up riding on kenworths and peterbilts and started practicing driving at age 13
Love your videos bro!!! :O) I am a IT Tech and so bored of it now. I always wanted to drive trucks when I was a kid. What company to you recommend starting out with? Are you happy with Swift? Thanks :O)
uh...im gonna say in the 20k range full. 44,500 is about max if its loaded right. any more and fuel must be at a min to keep it under 80k gross. doesnt matter though im in an '09 prostar now.(vid soon).
@Biturbo0308 sorry for the delayed response and thank you. your english is great much better than my german :) no the length of the hood is not a problem....its like anything else, you get used to it.
Just curious if swift has a rider policy? I'm looking to become a driver, I understand its hard but I like a challenge, Ive been driving flat bed tow trucks since I was 16 and have recently moved up to intrastate Heavy Wrecker, A peterbuilt with a 13 speed eaton, and I'm 18.. I'd love to go OTR to travel and live out of the truck, my GF is very supportive and I'd like to to be able to take trips with me.. Is this possible with swift? and if not, Do you know any other companys that allow it?
@11254cdk i drive one, im speaking from experiance, and from speaking with other drivers in a volvo at the truck stops all of which have or are having the EXACT same issues, even at the same mileage for each issue. they are only decent with a cummins, if you have the volvo D16 or D13 your in for a world of problems before even 100k miles. If your stuck with a volvo motor, best bet is to hope for or stage an electrical fire, collect the insurance and buy something else.
wow bro, no offence but you got alot to learn.you got to pay your dues in this industry you just dont show up on your first day and say: i want this truck or else,or ill only do this if... its not gonna work that way.and if somebodys told you it is your gonna be disappointed. i mean this in the nicest poissible way.
very nice a real home and pure luxury... Thank you for teaching your truck
Those volvos look awesome with the table, I hope I get one of those when I get out there.
Very nice. I don't know about sleeping on the top, though. That's where all of the heat goes.
Very nice looking.
Thanks for the tour.
Thanks man. Yes trucks are getting nicer and nicer. But make no mistake this model is in the top 2 or 3 percent of luxury.

Ow! What a comeback.you wound me sir with your rapier-like wit.
Thank's.It's been about five years and a dozen trucks ago,but I believe this one was a cummins. Also had good luck w/D13 reliability over the years.
nice trk, i myself cant wait to get back on with swift, my old trk # was 99685 and i was out of lathrop,CA it was smaller a volvo 660 with the the green cummins (baby motor) again nice trk.. be safe out there driver im am known as the BOOGIEMAN

Very nice. that's a big improvement
hey I've never heard any of those things before! well, thanks for your valuable input. I'm sure we are all much wiser for it. Not.
also regarding your question about refrigerator and microwave,I run two to five different trucks per year, so moving into any one of them completely is impractical for my for my purposes.but I have been known to use a propane camp stove as well as the 12 Volt plugin lunch box oven for in truck meals.

Haven't had this truck in about 5yrs. Right now it's a 2013 cascadia condo With a /9speed+a Detroit .
yes im happy with swift.the miles are decent and the equipment is top of the line.i cant make a fair recommendtation of who to start with. i can only tell you swift worked out fine for me.
Yes,the table is one of my favorite features for sure.
Very nice vid. Thanks.
Can i ask how much fuel this baby uses alone without cargo.

Don't let the a holes bug ya man. Everybody has to start somewhere and Swift is as good as any. And Swift seems like they try to keep decent trucks.
probably in the wrecking yard by now, i got a tour of the swift wrecking yard one time, lots of trucks. nice truck low pay. i drive junker 78 peterbuilt for high pay,
hell yes i love the volvos.if you csn get a decent price on a 780 go for it its a great truck!!

@bertduarte i had good luck with my volvo engine for a few years.
although the 780 in this vid is sporting a cummins engine.
theres a placard between the hood and the door, leads me to think this isnt a cummins, and is a d13 or d16. if its the latter, how is it treating you now after a some use?i got a 2008 with a d16 its a 730, the midroof model of the same tractor and it aint worth a shit. @baconsandwich2007 around 450hp give or take and not sure about the I shift.this one is eaton fuller 9 speed.
to bad most of those types of trucks are not allowed on the swedish road, looks really awesome though
What motor does this have? Cummins?

@Biturbo0308 sorry for the delayed response and thank you.
your english is great much better than my german :)

@squidreuel yep,I've seen quite a few smashed swifties over the years myself.
@gunders1982 im not sure. maybe assembled here ,but the parts are from all over the world.
How much did that truck cost?
what was your old truck?
@11254cdk i drive one, im speaking from experiance, and from speaking with other drivers in a volvo at the truck stops all of which have or are having the EXACT same issues, even at the same mileage for each issue. they are only decent with a cummins, if you have the volvo D16 or D13 your in for a world of problems before even 100k miles. @metalmark69 yes i do.the 780s are usually reserved for teams.

@pittlogger about 45000.with minimal fuel.
hey swifty, will swift hire an intelligent preson without high school diploma or ged?
@troswethanks, interesting, i did not know that.
