4 pieces of advice on your kick-off guide: - doing a trade deal with Hanfu straight away is not beneficial. He will be confederated within 5 turns and your only other early game trade partners are with Zhang Yang and Wang Kuang, who very often will trade among themselves with their only trade route. So it is better to take Wei first, trade with Zhang Yang, and then after the confederation trade with Wang Kuang. It is pure luck that by the time u got the reform and second trade route Wang Kuang wasn't trading with Zhang Yang. - marrying of Yuan Tan into Han Fu's faction makes them family member after the confederation, so they wont cost u upkeep after the event. Han Fu, Han Lian, Han Tong, Gui Rulan would be free of charge and that equals 600 copper coins of income a turn. - Henei is a pretty lucrative early game commandry if u put an inn in it in conjunction with the existing harbour and boost it with xu you's 75% commerce. - Taking Henei early also means that you can upgrade to the rank of second marquis after the confederation event due to the prestige of a lvl5 city, which means earlier council missions and being able to reroll skills very early. Putting Yan Liang and Wen Chou in the Council means that u can save the money for their titles completely.

I am playing a competitive Yuan Shao campaign with my friend. I was able to get Sun Ce, Zang Ba, Yang Feng, Zouh Yu and plan on maxing the army level up trait so I'm gunning for free Cav captains with great charge.
we need a yuan shu guide for 190, he is really hard to play with at the beginning, at turn 4 a legendary general pops out in the general pool and i can not pick him up due to the lack of his faction points. It was really frustrating.
It would be really funny if Yuan Shu got updated can upgrade his garrison with his unique resources. Like his brother he's also vain so while he spent resources in upgrading them if the general isnt unique he just doesnt bother to see them other than a faceless soldier :D
Literally JUST started a Yuan Shao campaign, crazy. 194 though cuz I was hoping Zang Ba gets wiped early on and recruiting him. He did get wiped but didn't show up in my pool 😐
Played as Yuan Shao once, the captain retinues didn't feel that much of an upgrade in the late game imo. From Sabre Militia to Sabre Infantry, Mounted Lancer Militia to Lancer Cavalry. That's it. I was hoping to see Heavy Ji Infantry, Heavy Sabre Infantry(Not introduced yet), Cataphracts, Heavy Spearguards, Heavy Crossbowmen. And probably Imperial Units as well when you reached King. Not everyone likes slow infantry, it would be nice too if you can choose a previous lighter version the more upgraded version you unlocked. But I'm probably asking for too much here. Having multiple armies, cheap cannon fodders, and actual elite units meant to kill things. That will actually feel more fun playing as Yuan Shao Most Importantly, The Captain Armory needs some tweaks, some powerful perks should cost more, such as Unbreakable and White Water. While some really uninteresting perks cost way too much. Another personal opinion is that the range buff doesn't feel effective, I hope it can buff the units by 15%. A cost around 150 would be reasonable.
I did keep the whole han fu roster just by marriage with the daughter you get a huge free cost family. Also really hard but Sun jian stacks with the captains cost with the backround bonus
I play a fair bit of Gongsun Zan these days... Can confirm that Xun Yu always seems to start out in Han Fu's faction. And no matter how much I attack his satisfaction with spies, he doesn't want to be a turncoat. Also, Wen Chou comes with Fatigue Immunity on his armor. Worth a mention, I think. He's up there with Zhang Yan! Maybe give him Yan Liang's weapon and let Yan Liang stay on Mustering Bonus duty.
I'm really happy the Yuan family got the love they deserved,I avoided Yuan Shao precisely because he was lacking anything remotely interesting or damagy. His faction's units are incredibly slow and he usually goes for Sabre Cavalry instead of shock,he is really good at drawing fights,he usually wins easily in encampment fights but damn he was boring as fuck...
Wen Chou’s Xiezhi Roar is also an AOE damage attack as well. Very effective to wipe out multiple cavalry units or a whole flank when you let him get surrounded.
@@marundiir4241 yeah I thought the same since the description only show the morale debuff. But yeah after I used it for the first time, I realised this dude can wipe a whole army of used correctly.
Great guide! I'm just confused by the point you made at around 36:16 about all the captain retinues being replaced by northern army retinues once you gain the Colonel followers: in my current Fates Divided Yuan Shao campaign, I have the colonels not equipped, but all my captain retinues are the standard elite, "King" rank retinues, not the Northern Army ones. I suspect that you can only recruit the northern army captain retinues in an army in which you have the follower equipped.
You need to recruit the northern army colonel on a character and they are available. I discovered it myself in a Yuan Shao playthrough. They are then available to all armies.
I got really lucky with my yuan shao start, after declaring war with gongsun zan, I managed to capture both gongsun zan and his wife in the first fight and got zhao yun after an initial release then employ from a 2nd capture. He practically became my best friend after that really quickly with smth like +50 diplomacy for a peace deal. I really didn't want his land anyway and sued for peace because I wanted to go to Taiyuan and Hedong instead which are really good commanderies which also leads you next door to Changan to take the emperor.
I dunno if it's even worthwhile to capture the emperor as Yuan Shao. Once you get an Emperor seat you have to choose between ursurping which gives your faction a bad debuff, or restoring the Han which takes away your ability to deploy your faction leader for extra Lineage bonus (a super small loss but I'm OCD).
But Gonsung Zan has a "Brave Warrior" or something AI preset, so the bastard will probably backstab you some time soon, he is like a honey badger, he does not care how big you are.

Is there any overview of units I can get? (I am mostly interested in the best range units and some shield frontline)
1) most upgrades are only on the captain retinue that you spent them on (things like +3 armies are one use and applied to faction instead) 2) I have not done any guides on the retinues as a whole but I think the best options are the cavalry captain retinues since you can easily give them stalk and unbreakable then they become invisible charging wedges of death that never breaks. (and you can add more armor, speed, attack to them and they cost a fraction of actual cavalry units since you have all the nice captain retinue discounts, Zang Ba hopefully, and the four northern horse pastures). You can actually get to free upkeep on the cavalry captain retinues which is pretty insane.
also points are super plentiful for Yuan Shao so just keep spending them even though they might become obsolete when you rank up the units once in awhile (trust me you will have more than you ever need since you get points for all sorts of random things, battle, declaring war, even summoning generals onto the field so you can use your redeployment cap every turn and get net so many points).
I think receiving a marriage with Han Fu's daughter is totally worth it because you'll get all his family members for free. There's the brilliant wife, the farmer son, and Han Fu himself has the satisfaction assignment, which will allow you to put Wen Chou on the field earlier.

surely it's better to keep Yuan Shao out in the field for the +5 faction leader is in the field, and to summon dismiss any other general for the +10? Or am I misunderstanding
sure but in the case of our first disband, I was just pointing out that given all the new ways to gain lineage, disbanding him to heal is no longer a losing deal since summoning him back next turn gives us more lineage than keeping him on the field
How much is the difference between accepting vs proposing a dual?
I think about 800 exp versus 3000 exp not exactly sure about the exact difference but I know it is a massive one
How to Get Started as Gongsun Zan | Early Game Legendary Difficulty Playbook Patch 1.7.0 would be nice. :) Amazing video as always mate
That’s next week
@@SeriousTrivia yay!!! having a hard time lol
if you reach level 7 before getting elite captain retinues will they upgrade or will they stay as the northen army? and if they stay as the northen army will they get any buffs?
If you equip the northern colonels they will become the northern army version. You can still buff them with the armoury system
Have you considered adopting Han Fu? It's an expensive up front expense, but then he, his wife, and his kids are all free.
Can you add the chapters or time stamp so we can skip to it
Wow...and I thought some other factions were broken.
man i tried to make marry lady liu with cao ren... turns out lady liu is gone into cao cao court so i basically lost a character, they changed something in the game?
did you pick receive marriage or offer marriage...seems like you picked the wrong option
@@SeriousTrivia yes, i tried again and it worked thx a lot!
Doesn't sun ce discount for mercenary work on yuan shao?
Less reliable to get. I think Zang Ba with disloyal is an easy snatch once you gain vision of Tao Qian
Nice
An addendum to the Han Fu Confederation. If you've already divorced your wife to grab Cao Ren, you can opt to Marry the daughter Han Lian and then her, the Mother, the Father and the Brother all become family members and thus no longer have a salary.
why dont you play 182 CE ?
not everyone bought that DLC so a guide would be less helpful so I am focusing on the 190 start first since everyone at least have the base game
@@SeriousTrivia got it!
After the confederate event, can you adopt han fu to get his whole family at 0 salary?
some already mentioned, marrying Yuan Tan to his daughter on turn one would make this work
Is There Any Sign For A New Dlc ???
we just had one? I don't expect one until at least August or later
where is part 2?
There is no part 2. This isn’t a let’s play, it’s a starting guide to show the first few turns, introduce the faction mechanics
jesus christ you talk and move so slow, coulda been a 30 min video if you didnt hold our hand the whole time. If im here, I already know how to read, how to press buttons, and how to play games. Just show the moves.
its a tutorial which mean I will make it for the slowest person to understand it but clearly it is not a style you enjoy.
@@SeriousTrivia I'm gonna own this one homie I'm sorry. I had a shitty night at work, didnt get any sleep, and was frustrated at the game. I projected on you in the moment and thats shitty of me. I've actually been able to reference the video a few times and its helped. Again, I apologize. Totally uncool and completely unnecessary of me.
Appreciate the message. No worries, hour long videos aren't for everyone and I acknowledge that I tend to go on at length a bit too much. There is always room for improvement. Hope you have a good one!
